Discussion of 3.08 "Lover's Walk" - Aired 11/24/1998 (WB-US)

I always assumed that it meant that BtVS Angel was quite dull in comparison to Angelus. Beige is a dull colour therefore you get Beige Angel, Angelus and AtS Angel

Made by this boards very own @Xanderectomy that scene, chipmunk style.

Thank You!
omg its been so long since i've been on buffy boards, good to be back however.

Just watched this episode again, it's a really great one but after i watched it i fell rellay sad. Buffy/Angel/Spike scenes where priceless (especialy holy water bombs 😀) but i still can't believe than a spark between Xander and Willow could cause so much awful damage 🙁 I really don't know who got hurt the most.

I think Cordy got hurt the most.
Willow and Oz found reconciliation and were able to move past it.
Xander didn't seem as broken up about it as I thought he should have been.

Cordy risked her reputation for Xander and then he betrayed her. That really hurt Cordy. She basically lost all of her "friends" because her boyfriend wasn't popular enough. Yes, those girls were not true friends and were just your typical mean girls judging people based on their social status, but in Cordy's 16-18 yr old mind, these girls and her reputation were very important to her.
She lost both just to be betrayed by Xander.
And not to mention she is the one who fell and got physically hurt as well.

You see this is were I question my sanity.... I have not watched this episode often because it has a load of Spike in it .
We have a evil murdering Vampire turn up almost kill Xander by hitting him, with a bottle or something ( funny with a serious head injury he was not in Hospital along side Cordy , Xander got Slayer healing when necessary )
Kidnaps both Willow and Xander threaten Willow with rape , indirectly cause Cordy to have a serious injury , which easily could have killed her and the result of imprisoning and probably thinking they are being being killed Willow and Xander get caught kissing ....which breaks up there relationship's,
Spike kidnaps them so they can work a love Spell on Dru so she will love him again and he can rape the women he said loves ( did he not try to rape the women he claimed to love in a later season? )
A lot I read on this post is how wonderful Spike is ???? his talk about Blood and they would never be just friends
Why did not Buffy and Angel go after Spike and Dust him ?
I find Spike a Evil selfish Vampire right though to S7 even then he lies to Buffy about getting his soul for her.....so he has a chance again with Buffy
Faith was also popular Character and did a lot less to the scoobies than Spike ever did , no get out of jail card for her....
JM said Spike was evil I could not agree more .
So is it me or not......

Finally somebody sees it, THANK YOU
This episode is definitely Revelations Part II.

Joyce and Spike get along remarkable well. Always have ever since Joyce smacked him with an axe, which the vampire's version of a hug. 😉

I wonder if Joyce is frustrated or relieved that Buffy keeps so many secrets from her (like Angel being back and that she was interacting with him again). Probably both.

There is more about multiple cops covering stuff up, saying this time the cops had a hard time after Spike's attack on the magic shop in broad daylight. I'd really like to know what they know, and what they know of Buffy and Faith. (Their being after Faith in season 4 really doesn't make sense because they shouldn't know, and the Watchers would seem to want to handle it quietly without police involvement--it's surprising they didn't just poison her while she was in a coma. But if the cops in the know connected her to the Mayor then they could easily trump up charges on her as they try to wipe out every vestige of the Mayor's influence, and as it so happens they actually have something to work with in her case.)

And the ending...Buffy saying, "Tell me that you don't love me."

What if Angel replied, "Will that help? Is that what you need to hear? I don't. I don't!" (I Only Have Eyes for You.) Heh. I wonder if that would play their minds again...

You know that's not the real ending right?😉

When Cordelia says "only a moron would come back to Sunnydale" and the screen cuts to Spike, wouldn't that also be classed as an insult to Buffy? Buffy left Sunnydale at the end of Season 2 then came back at the end of "Anne".

I love this episode so much! I'm trying to think what to say first... I love everything about this episode. I love Spike. I love Spike so much. I love the rant he goes on about Dru and how he says basically the same thing like six times to different people. haha It's so like me. I'll tell the same story basically the exact same way to different people. It makes me hug my pillow and pretend it's him.

And of course, the Spike/Joyce bit. I love the Spike/Joyce relationship.

And then there's Spike's perceptive comments about Buffy and Angel and love in general.

And I ADORE how he's got Willow and Xander in the factory and Buffy's like "they're probably just in the factory" and Spike's like "Well how thick do you think I am?" And I'm like "Oh Spikey. You are not the planner. Not at all."

I love this episode so much.
okay what can I say about willow that I have not already said she is great my favourite part of this episode is Spike & Joyce.

LOL, love funny & drunk Spike in this episode, the only one episode of the trio Spike, Buffy & Angel fighting side by side, the six characters sad at the end of episode plus Spike happy in his car singing My Way in the road leaving Sunnydale. I love that episode, one of my favorite in S3.

Too bad they tried to retcon this episode with Fool For Love.

I'm not sure what the writers were thinking making one of the bad guys do such horrible villainy things? What were they thinking? Its not like that is the purpose of them is it?😉

The reason people love Spike is because Masters brings so much charisma and depth to role. He is more than just a two dimensional stereotype. Which he shows in this episode. I think the writing and performance actually makes you sad for Spike while not justifying his actions. This episode always knocks it out the park for me. It has so many great highs and lows. Its interesting how two of the villains tell some important home truths to Buffy and Angel this season (thinking of the Mayor in Choices too). Spike's "love's bitch" line is one of my favourite of the whole show.

Yep Spike and Joyce gets on so well Spike wants to kill her daughter

Why do you hate Spike so much ?
Willow technically could've potentially killed Joyce in this episode. She sent Spike round to Buffy's house, probably thinking Buffy would be there, but she wasn't so Joyce was alone when Spike turned up. It's only because Buffy was on the phone to Joyce that she heard Spike's voice and headed straight home. Buffy obviously thought her mom was in danger hence her rush, and Spike retelling his tale of woe is what gave her the time to get there. However, if Spike had been a lot more kill happy, he could've killed Joyce and all because Willow told him to go to Buffy's house.

Willow might not have been aware that Spike had previously been invited (since she was unconscious for a while), and thus could enter the residence, but why risk it? It wouldn't be hard to wrangle an invitation if necessary (he got one off of Warren's mom somehow). Buffy could've been either at the library, at home or on patrol; Joyce was almost guaranteed to be at home. Why risk Joyce's neck when sending Spike to the library may have been the better option and at least stalled for time?

Obviously doing so gave us this scene:

But from an in-show perspective, it wasn't a smart move on Willow's part.

Would he have killed Joyce, they seemed to be getting on really well. It seems like he was only doing that to wind up Angel. Besides even Spike at his most stupid must know that killing Buffys mum, would be the stupidest move you could possibly do. He seemed more angry that she and Angel were making googly eyes at each other imo

I agree that Spike wouldn't kill Joyce but Willow didn't know that. He'd threatened to shove a bottle in her face "right through to [her] brain" and Willow believed him because she was absolutely terrified. It would be a stupid move to kill any of the scoobies but Spike wasn't exactly thinking clearly.

Willow didn't send Spike to Joyce, Spike went there all on his own. She sent him to the Magic Box to get ingredients for the spell but he meandered.

The thing is Spike in 'Lover's Walk' is brilliantly incompetent most of the time; he's drunk, petty, heartbroken and easily distracted. He falls asleep and wakes up on fire, he wanders about places crying and raging over Drusilla.
He went to Buffy's house because he remembered that he and Joyce and gotten along (from his pov) the last time he was there so...he went there. That's the pattern, going places that he'd been before.
He had no intention of harming Joyce, he wanted to pour his heart out and get lots of sympathy (like any broken-hearted romantic) and wouldn't have bothered coming in if Buffy had been there. The slayer was not part of him plan.

The only time Spike gets his mojo back was through violent brawls with other vampires near the end. After his epiphany he leaves the episode on a high note whilst everyone else's love lives are in tatters.

Yes she did. Willow said she needed a few other things for the spell, that she had them but she left them somewhere. Spike asks where ? You then next hear his voice over the phone to Joyce. It's obvious she sent him there because of Buffy

That's hardly definitive proof though, and it also makes no sense.
Willow left her spell supplies at the school where she was casting the spell for her and Xander so why would she leave them at Buffy's? And if she were lying and saying that to get Spike into trouble with Buffy- and that's pure supposition- then that would be risky, to Joyce.

It's more likely- and more in character- that Spike went to Joyce all on his own to get comfort for his heartache and some hot chocolate.

Are you serious 😳
It makes obvious sense. Send Spike to the slayer and of course she is lying. Yes it's a risk to Joyce but she's low on options.
