Discussion of 8.21 "Harmonic Divergence" - Released 07/01/09 (Dark Horse)

I wasn't crazy about how it was delivered, but the story shows how our society sheepishly follow what the media backs, what advertisers and producers push, and the lack of morals being instilled into society promoting low-attention-span theater and shallow storylines... or maybe I'm just talking out of my posterior???

The plot point introduced in the issue is major and offers a lot of interesting new twists. The issue it self felt a little light, because it's only purpose seemed to be to introduce said plot. Luckily, Harmony is an entertaining character who made the issue interesting.

I think the idea was to show how Twilight has influenced everything, right from the military to poular television to the world of celebrity. It seemed like a real cad handed way for Joss to introduce a world vs slayers scenario and assuming we get a season nine it's going to be a cluster**** to get it sorted out.

But, i have faith in Joss, let's see where he takes us.

I figured that Harmony would kill the nameless slayer, but still wondered up until the end how she would do it (and the method was quite ironic). Very clever tabloid headline and the bottom of Page 6, and it makes sense that Harmony would become the star of an MTV show similar to "The Hills". She was pretty much Heidi Montag before Ms. Montag became famous. The slayers/gang comparison was pretty interesting, and seems like something that Twilight would be glad to promote. And actually he can, because of Simone and her large gang of violent, rogue slayers. Good introduction to the new story direction, though I was surprised to see that Clem is friends with Harmony. He deserves better.

This one was just terrible lol...I would really like to never have to see Harmony in this series ever again. It's everything that's wrong with the world...but I guess that was the point 🙂

I like Harmony when she's used correctly, but I think she's one of those characters that is only really effective when written in a pure supporting role, and not pushed on the viewer/reader too hard.

This issue wasn't good. I mean, taken on its own it was funny in a way, sure, but the fact that the entire world finds out about the existence of vampires through Harmony starring on a reality T.V. show was pretty stupid. I mean, that seems like something that should be a fairly big deal, and could have served as one of the main seasonal plots for Buffy or Angel. Instead it's thrown away on a silly one-shot? Dumb.
