That will be soooo fun. You're right; it's bound to happen.

I hope it doesn't happen for a while, though. It's something to look forward to. It's a finale sort of thing. Then again, didn't Destiny happen mid-season? That was the Spike and Angel brawl, and that definitely did not disappoint.
 
Ok, I just got thru it. My comic shop is kind of slow sometimes.
Anyways, I really liked it. I am getting used to the art and it doesn't bother me any. I also like the thick pages.
I was so happy to see not only Spike, but Spike, Gwen AND Illyria in one issue. I mean come on! That was just awesome.
Any word on whether Gwen will be a main character? I think it would be benificial for her to be. I mean we already know her, we know how darn cute she is and about her past. And well I think knowing what she looks like and sounds like helps. Well it does me anyways cause when I read I do their voices in my head. Yes I am an odd bird I know.
So we know Wes is a fantom (dennis..awe) and he is working for them. So them as in evil hell WR&H? Anyone care to elaborate. I usually need to read comics twice before I fully get it all. Must be the add.

All in all, I enjoyed it very much.

Just read this one (I know, I'm a little behind). It was ok, but not great. Not a good sign seeing as it's the second "episode" of the "season". I'm not sure why they have Nina being insane, maybe I missed the reason in issue 1?
Is Spike a bad guy again? If so, did he lose his soul when L.A. went to Hell?
 
AFTER THE FALL REREAD -- #2

Official Angel: After the Fall reread Issue 2:

This one kind of felt like a set up issue. There's clearly an issue between Angel and Wes that hasn't been fully revealed yet. Gunn obviously has something long term in the works with George (who is really funny) the telepathic...um...fish.

The Angel/Spike scene at the end was cool. It was good seeing Spike because he wasn't even mentioned in the first issue. I'm intrigued to find out why all of L.A. has gone to hell, literally, but Beverly Hills hasn't. Did Spike strike a deal with someone?

Seeing Illyria again was awesome. It sets up the third issue really well. From what I'm guessing, it looks like Gunn is, for whatever reason, trying to set up Illyria to take the fall for the people he killed.

Connor also seems like a cool character. I'm glad they haven't dialed him back to his S4-whinyness. That's a huge relief. Its neat seeing Gwen being a supporting character too. I liked the fight scene where Connor and Angel are both kind of awkward around one another but at the same time still trying to look good in front of each other. Also, there appears to have been a significant time gap between "Not Fade Away" and After the Fall. It looks like Angel was out of commission for long period. It'll be interesting to learn what that's about.

What did you guys think?
 
There seems to be some unspoken tension between Angel and Wes, probably because Wes is working for them...but it will be interesting to find out more about that.

I'm not crazy about Nina in this issue, she seems so different that her character on the show.

Has Connor called Angel by his name before or is this a new development? I'm looking forward to seeing more of their relationship.

Soooo VampGunn seems to be another vampire who may be somehow special(?)...it's interesting that he hates himself; I would have guessed those feeling would have died with him. This is the storyline I'm most looking forward to after the first two issues.

Of course Spike is sitting on his ass in silky PJs surrounded by women while Angel is out on the front lines fighting. That IS Spike. 🙄 I really don't get what the writers intentions with this are...I mean what was the point of all his "character development" and "growth" if he was going to become a sorta Lord of Beverly Hills...some champion. *sigh* Even though I'm not a fan of his character; I have to admit there was a good bit if humor in his bit.

I did chuckle a bit when Illyria said "your presence is irritating my pet" 😀
 
Yeah when I saw that was Nina, I was like, "Waht?"

And it seemed odd to me too that Connor called Angel "Angel".

And could they screw up the whole "vampire with a soul" thing anymore? Did we really have to throw the rules out the window AGAIN?
 
First of all, what is up with the boobies? Women are not sex objects. It really bothers me.

Nina was acting very out of character in this issue. Hopefully, we get some meaningful development for her as I think she has a lot of potential and was sad she was never really developed in the show. I don't dig the entire Spike thing, but I am intrigued by Gunn being all morally ambiguous. I am just disregarding the whole soul mythology mess, because there is no hope.

Wesley breaks my heart. Bless him.

Curious to see what will happen in the next issue!
 
The objectification of women in the comics is something that also really annoys me.

I know that this is a recurring thing in comics in general but I do wish that those from the buffyverse had handled things differently.

In the current Buffy series (season 10&11) it is not that problematic. I mean Buffy has never been a true feminist show in my opinion. After watching Angel that realisation dawned upon me. I mean look at the ratio of men and women on that show. Fred is just a love interest for each character basically. I think women on Angel are generally more sexualised, but in these comics it really takes it to a new level. I mean the story seems to be quite good, but I read two issues and Nina and Gwen are just boobies with mouths and Spike has a female lovers gang basically.

Have you read these comics?

Usually, I try to stay away from male-centric comics because there is generally quite a lot of sexism in them.
 
I did a few months ago. I loved them. What you're discribing is something that also bothered me while reading it but it didn't prevent me from enjoying it probably because I mostly read them for Angel and I tried focus om the characters and things I loved. But yeah I did roll my eyes a bunch.

Does Nina get better? Or should I give up hope for her character? Yeah, the story seems pretty interesting and especially the Wesley bit is quite interesting, but the eye rolling will definitely happen often.

Looking forward to reading the next issue 🙂 I am going to read it in a few hours!
 
I actually don't remember much about Nina. I never really cared about her which is probably why even though the general way the female characters were portrayed annoyed me, it didn't prevent me from enjoying After the fall which is my favorite comics series after angel & faith season 9.

There's nothing wrong with boobies or the fact that men are attracted to them. I think the point was to show that, in hell, people will do things that they might not have necessarily have gotten away with beforehand. What specific problems did you have with the objectification? I felt like they were all in-character. Gwen's always been a very sensual person, Spike would totally have a harem in the apocalypse (also it gets explained in Spike: AtF), and of course the bad guy keeps women as his objects... because evil.

I'm not saying she's making much forward development in the comic, but she's far more interesting here than she was in AS5. And Nina's acting out of character was explained in her first scene. In helLA the sun and moon are out at the same time and it's really messing with her mind.

Nina: No! It's the sun/moon situation! They're both out at once. do you have any idea what that does to a werewolf?
Girl: Makes you hungry?
Nina: No!
Girl: Makes you bi-curious?!

Buffy Wikia: In the hellish Los Angeles, the sun and the moon were out at the same time; while the sun kept Nina from transforming, the moonlight made her more primal in her attitude and actions.[/quote]
