Discussion of Angel & Faith 9.03 "Live Through This 3"- Released 10/26/11 (Dark Horse

Angel human...nooo!

I've always wondered why the writers thought being human was a reward. Getting old, bald, fat, ill, weak... is this a reward? Really? Anchoring his soul, ridding of the demon inside him without losing his immortality, being reunited with his friends -having they achieved immortality too- this is an example of rewarding...

If Angel is human he can love, that's the real reward (IWRY). When he's a vampire he's restricted from being with the person he loves (Buffy or Cordelia...take your pick lol)

I know, I know... but this is a magical, not real world, right? And I was expressing my disappointed point of view about extremely important aspects of life, such as illness and aging and death...

Oh Kean...apparently I've given you too much rep (Nah, you deserve it!), but thank you to the bottom of my toes for that lovely, lovely photo. Sigh....

It is quite lovely, is it not? (sw)

But that's the thing. Most people consider the ultimate goal in life to find the person they love and be together until they are old. Yes, aging, sickness, disease, etc, are all unattractive aspects of life, but that's what being human is, living and experiencing. The positives of life (and being human) greatly outweigh the negatives.

Of course, there are some people who might disagree, but the majority of people do believe being human is great because of all the amazing things we are capable of doing and experiencing in our lifetime.

As much as I am enjoying this comic and find it better than Buffy, I am going to be beyond upset if they use this whole resurrection thing to make Angel human so he can live a happy life with Buffy. It'll be fanservice IMO. I just can't forgive Angel for killing Giles.

Are supposed to know the connection between Pearl and Nash and Angel?

Okay, I'm not a comic reader, so correct me if I'm wrong; Angel's reward for killing Giles is becoming human so he can live happily ever after with Buffy 😕

I wonder why I'm not reading the comics 😉

Correcting you. You are wrong. Current A&F arc is not done yet, so the discussion here is pure speculation. And regardless of how it goes, there is nothing in the story that implies rewards of any kind. The poster above merely interpreted our speculations through her own vision of the story.

GILES (cont'd)
Would you let this vampire live if it
meant saving the world?

GILES
And would you let him kill me, if it
meant the same?

Thanks for clearing it up. In any case, I hope the speculation turns out to be wrong and Angel doesn't become human, because if he does it sounds like a reward to me.

Then again, I'm not reading the comics and just go by what I pick up online 😱

RipperGilesFan - I think you'd enjoy "Angel and Faith" if you read it. The comics feature interesting Giles flashbacks and there is a possibility (very far possibility, but still) that Angel will find a way to resurrect Giles. With consequences, of course. (Giles: "I came back wrong. Does it mean I can have a lot of wild monkey sex with Spike?")

But, seriously, if they bring Giles back, they'll provide him with a meaty arc in the future issues.

Thanks for the info🙂 I'm gonna keep my eyes open for those

Am I missing something? Why is Angel being blamed by most for something he wasn't even in control of? And I, for one, would like to see Angel struggling as a human. As long as he's not with Buffy.

Right, my post about Angel getting to be human is my own interpretation of the story arc, but is based on what Faith implied. She brought up the point of Angel being human and referenced Buffy. As someone who is thoroughly enjoying the comic but sort of fed up with Angel at this point, I personally would be very upset if this all was a set up to have Angel become a human so he could live happily ever after with Buffy. I think there is enough contextual evidence to support this as a possibility.

Overall, the issue was good! I am very interested to see where this Mohra blood arc goes!

Angel is the character I am invested into most. I am not fed up with him and I never will be. I actually think that he will come out the stronger out of his present time ordeal, whatever happens. It is very sad for me as Angel fan to see all the negative sentiment directed at my favorite character. I believe the reduced discussion of Angel comic series is caused by this strongly running negative sentiment, because when you see all this bad feelings expressed openly on every forum it hurts not the imaginary character but very real people who are his fans.

I don't mean to hurt your feelings!!! I don't wanna bash Angel, just personally as a huge Giles fan and someone who was genuinely saddened his death, I am not Angel's biggest fan right now.
As a fan who survived Spike-hate and Spuffy-hate of 2002-2003, and who still occasionally encounters diehard haters, I can relate.

I don't think that Angel can permanently shanshu at this particular moment. If he shanshues, his story is over. Theoretically, Joss could re-introduce shanshu for a couple of issues, to keep on the proverbial carrot if front of our noses, to make Angel and Faith suffer, to create a conflict between them. But, given what we already know about the next arcs, it looks like shanshu won't happen.

But I'm sure that Angel will have a very heroic arc in his own comic for make up for his Twilight stint on BtVS. It's a Jossverse rule: the lower they fall the higher they soar afterwards. Faith. Spike. Now it's Angel's turn. Writers have already started retconning his possession by Twilight. He wasn't possessed only in #38-39. He doesn't remember some events that happened before that.
