Discussion of Buffy 9.01 "Freefall"- Released 9/14/11 (Dark Horse)

Is that Andrew that's the third guy that arrives at the party?

And so was Season 8 all about Buffy & Angel and Season 9 is going to be all about Spike? Is that where we're going with this?

I thought it was a little odd that Spike, Riley and Andrew all showed up at Buffy's door together. No way the three of them did that intentionally right?

Interesting that the roommates aren't "in the know" about Spike (vampires?) Isn't the general public sympathetic towards them now?

Interesting that B brought up Spike not telling her about the "who or any thing new". I wonder if he is withholding information like he seemed to be in s8. Wonder if B knows about that...

Didn't find the demon collecting the student loan debt twist all that interesting. Buffy didn't spend much time in school so it's hard to imagine she would have lots of debt...maybe she took out loans to pay for Dawn's education? Seems like something she would do but then again, why wouldn't she just steal the money for it while she was robbing banks?

Yeah, although it really looked nothing like him. Longer shaggier hair than we've ever seen him with....and that scarf? lol

This season seems to be going normal with a vengeance. Buffy may not be in college, but this all seems very collegiate, with a drunken party, roommates, student loans, even Spike and the roommate forming a band.

It continues to be hard to identify characters, unless they have something distinctive about them, such as hair color or an eye patch. I wish the text would have people say others' names once in a while, like "Cool van, Reilly!"

I'm not sure what's the point of Willow complaining to Buffy about the destruction of the seed now. What's done is done.

Spike doesn't seem to be a suspect among those who might have slept with Buffy, yet I notice a belt with a large buckle on the bed when she wakes up. I don't understand his line at the party, "Buzz off, giant mosquito. I only hire roaches." Is Spike just being drunk and random, or is it some comment to the woman who was kissing him?

I think this issue is showing that Buffy doesn't do well without a focus, and that may go for some of the rest of the gang, too. She talks at the end of needing to feel useful. Even demons seem to need a purpose, with one of them getting a real job. Finally, the comment of the woman driving the van, "Not all of us have lost our way," seems to point to that, too.

Have you read Magical Mystery Tour Featuring The Beetles? It's a Jane Espenson script, and is the first story in my Season 9 Library Ed?

I think Spike is actually opening a window when he says 'Buzz off giant mosquito . . . ', so I think he's just letting out a mossy and referencing his bug ship adventures at the same time.

Ah, I haven't read that one, will look into it, thanks.

So, the line doesn't have deeper meaning, then. Though it doesn't seem like a mosquito would harass Spike, with his lower body temperature!
