No option fits perfectly but in the same vein, none can be excluded. So, I'm still on the Angel Baby Daddy Train.

😀

Not saying that you're wrong, but they already have one of those. His name is Connor. I doubt that Joss is going to make the same mistake twice, especially when there are so many new ones just waiting to be made.

Here's a thought: what if they NEVER find out who the daddy is? Buffy doesn't remember, and nobody claims paternity.

Scott Allie also said in an interview that six months passed between 8#39 and 8#40 if I remember correctly (I tried to look for the interview, but I didn't found it). And he mentionned this in a Q/A :

How much time has passed between #40 (present day - e.g. Buffy talking to Spike on the fire escape, Buffy being attacked by the three Slayers etc.) and #1 Freefall?

Scott: More than a month, less than a few.

Your estimations seem valid for the timeline ^^

Didn't someone (one of the writers?) say Spike will have a big part in season 9 and/or that Spuffies will be happy? I remember something like that, correct me if I'm wrong please.

Well, just looking at the cover art for Issue #7

http://www.tfaw.com/Themes/Buffy-The-Vampire-Slayer/Profile/Buffy-The-Vampire-Sl

it looks pretty Spuffy positive to me. Of course, it'll probably just turn out to be a dream or fantasy o something...

I was just gonna say something about this one. It must be connected somehow. If you think about it, it doesn't matter if it's a dream or even a fantasy. It has a meaning somehow and it can be connected to the pregnancy.

I very much doubt Spike is father, however, I fully expect to him to give his full support to Buffy and that she will lean on him heavily throughout her pregnancy. If I was to guess I'd say that cover is a possibility Buffy is considering...a life with Spike, being normal people.

I don't think it will happen, but I do think she will consider everything given her current condition.

Angel has a son, but he was never allowed the opportunity to raise him. You could argue that it would be apt that he got a second chance with Buffy.

YOU CANNOT DISSUADE ME OLD MAN!

I was under doubt too, to be honest, but then I had thoughts on that all day, and thought of some points as to why it can be Spike, or at least why he's not to be excluded yet. I wrote those down in The Back Steps.

Oh, and about that cover. There's also a chance that Spike really isn't the father, yet he's the one to raise it with Buffy and that is why they're there on the couch like that together.

That's what I think Buffy is considering. Again, I don't think it will happen, but I do think she will ponder it.

Very possible. I really don't think that what we see in that image is actually what's gonna happen, not now. However, I do think it has some meaning. Like you said, maybe it's what's on Buffy's thoughts . That cover is not something to be ignored of at this moment.

I'm reading the discussion of this issue over at Whedonesque, and some people are speculating that the father is Heinrich, the mystery neighbor who sends Buffy flowers. And other people are saying they saw this coming a long time ago, to which I reply "Huh?" I'm clearly not that perceptive lol.

Angel can't be the father because he's a vampire. And the only way he was able to have Connor was with the "interference" of "The Powers That Be", and magic is gone. So unless Joss decides to bring back TPTB I highly doubt Angel is the father. Unless i'm forgetting something 😕

Didn't Xander and Buffy have a secret they talked about having in the first issue?!?! I THINK XANDER IS THE FATHER!!

I think the thinking behind Angel being the father is that he and Buffy we're both Gods or God-like when they had all the sex. So, they had a lot of magic and power between them then.

I really don't think we can rule anything out at this stage.

Isn't it a little too obvious though? It's not unexpected, and we got used to the writers to make us think things that aren't true. So maybe that guy is there just to make us think it's him. But it seems too predictable to be true, you know?

True. Remember Buffy and Xander had a secret in the first issue? Do you think he could be the father?

Honestly? No, I don't. I don't believe Buffy would do that to her sister and I don't believe Xander would cheat on Dawn, or take advantage of a drunk Buffy.

Still, it can't be ruled out completely. But I would be stunned if it were true.

Even though it is possible I don't think Xander is the father. Remember when he turned Buffy down in S8; he seemed pretty sure he didn't want to hook up with Buffy just because she was lonely. I don't think he would have changed his mind.

The more I think about this pregnancy the more I think it is going to end up being a false positive or that Buffy will miscarry. We know she goes back to fighting demons, why would she rick her child by doing so? With a word full of slayers, now would be the time for her to put the stake away and have that normal life she's always said she wanted; especially now that there's a baby to think about.

I'm not saying I'm settled on anyone being the father, but been thinking about it quite a bit, and to be specific, about why Spike could be the father. Could be, not it:

* Spike was around lately, and he and Buffy seemed to get even closer, I've seen many comic shots of them together, they had many scenes together lately. They just seemed very close friends lately.
* The cover of issue #7 that shows Buffy and Spike having a normal life, sitting on the couch together, and enjoying their time as normal people. Could be misleading, yes, but even if it's just a dream, it suggests something real, that might have something to do with a little earlier issue and what has happened in them.
* I think it was Scott Allie who clues to Spuffies that they're in for something good.
* Spike is supposed to have a bigger role this season, and have something to do with Buffy.
* It's been mentioned that Spike wouldn't use Buffy when she's drunk. But at that party everybody seemed to be a little drunk or under a spell. Spike even spoke to a girl (who wasn't Buffy), so it might even have something to do with that.

Why I doubt Angel is it:
For starters, he has his own comic and he's away, so he won't even be around to see his kid. Also, Angel already has a kid, so I doubt they will go with it again, more kids for Angel.
I however, don't exclude him compeletely over the fact that he's a vampire. That's not a barrier in this verse. Therefore, it's another reason why Spike could be the one. But not a reason to exclude Angel!

My point is, as far as my opinion goes, Angel could be the father. But there's a bigger chance that it's Spike. BUT there's a better chance it's neither. But out of these two, Spike has a better chance to be the one.

Getting to think about it some more, I think there's a big chance that it's not Spike or Angel, but Spike will be the one to raise the child with Buffy.
Just my opinion.

Chosen Enemy the basic problem remains: vampires can't have children. What happened with Angel & Darla was an anomaly, something that has never happened and should never happen again IMO lol. But surely Spike will offer to step up & be the father figure- I think that's what that future cover is about.

especially not if all vampire + vampire children are as annoying and angsty as Connor, LMFAO

Ditto. I really hope they won't go in that kind of direction...

But knowing Buffy and her tendencies to easily feel guilty, I think she wouldn't be that much "calm"/serene around her sister and Xander if something really happened (unless that happened when she was drunk of course, but like you said, I don't think Xander would take advantage of her).

good point.
VisionGirl that's my point. There are things that have happened that we assumed (or were told) weren't possible. Before Connor we were told vampires couldn't have kids. But something mystical let that happen. So there's no reason why Joss wouldn't bend the rules, his own rules, again. Just saying. So vampires not able to have kids is not a factor here anymore, IMO. Anything can happen in this verse, it's not real life. Rules are being bent. People are being brought back to life, vampires have kids.
