Some things we now know, in light of Scott Allie's interview:

Buffy got pregnant at the party, so the father has to be someone who was at the party. I rule out Xander, because Dawn was with him and he was sober (I can't imagine that a sober Xander would ever take advantage of a drunk Buffy under any circumstances, unless the writers have all gone crazy.) I rule out Riley, because he was a) married, b) sober, and c) a boy scout.

Whomever it was left his pants and belt in Buffy's bed. Who could have gone home pantsless after the party? Tumble, because he lives right there in the same apartment; or Spike, because he could have just stepped out Buffy's window into the bug ship.

Are you saying that Xander & Riley weren't drinking at all, or that they were drinking but not falling-down drunk? I'm not sure we saw anyone falling-down drunk. We saw Buffy's aftermath, and even Willow didn't seem like she had a hangover.

He also said the baby was conceived when Buffy was black-out drunk in 9.01.

Nope , he did not. He said exactly :
Buffy doesn't know. Some readers will have a hard time with the idea that their hero could have gotten into this situation without knowing who the father is. She got black-out drunk in #1, and it turns out there are significant consequences.

I am not saying he outright lies , but he sure fibs. He had been known to fib before as well for the sake of 'better story'.

In real life that would be the case but in a story where the writers have been so sloppy with timelines and continuity it would be perfectly normal for Buffy to have morning sickness immediately.

I can say the same about her not showing a baby bump at 4.5 months - and then all of a sudden throwing up. Btw, Jeanty have been drawing her kind of more rounded than usual since issue 1 this season. I was thinking gosh - why is he drawing Buffy looking like Kelly Ripa all the time. The timelines have been shown sloppy deliberately.

You can inter[ret that entire dream hunting issue as if happening in 2-3 days - if you take into account the roomies reaction , or you can imagine it was longer. Same goes about how long has it been since S8 - could have been a day or two between #40 S8 and #1 of S9.

And the last thing is continuous Veronica Mars references - if you saw the series ( I was only able to finish 1 st season but that was enough) the entire 1 st season 'mystery' was who took advantage of VM whilst she was black out drunk. Turns out that she had sex with her legit boyfriend who was also rufied. I won't be surprised if Buffy will be investigating her own pregnancy - only to find out she in fact was pregnant long before that party.

Someone please remind me: what is the time span between 8.39 and 8.40, and what is the time span between 8.40 and 9.1?

ladydorotea is right: only 3 days are described in #s1-4. It doesn't specify what the time frame is between #4 and #5, although I'm going to guess it isn't a huge length of time.

VisionGirl the only reference to timing in between #40 of S8 and #1 of S9 in the text itself is Buffy's 'have not spilled a drink in 4 months' to her boss. All the talk about 6 months is taken from Alie's answers that were always spiced with 'maybes'.

OK, so 4-6 mos depending on who you believe. 🙂 What about #39 to #40- wasn't there something like a 3 month time frame there, or was it less than that?

Yes, you can but the writers have been trying very hard to pretend the space frak never happened. Not to mention it already led to the birth of Kitty Twilight, it would be just silly on so many levels if it also lead to "mundane" pregnancy.

There were no time frame there at all. They could have grabbed Slayer bomber plane and flied everybody to their respective locations in days. Giles' body had to be buried, and Angel and Faith dumped in London. But it could have happened within a week.

Btw, in a semi-canonical Nikki Wood story, Nikki is 4.5 months pregnant and does not know it - and has to go through her ritual ( wassaname ? depowered Slayer locked with a vampire? ) while pregnant...

Icarium I am not saying it is for sure a mystical pregnancy - all I am saying we can be fibbed into believing it is not.

I don't think any of the Scoobies were drunk except Buffy and Spike. Can't be sure about Andrew. As far as I can recall we've never seen Xander, Riley, or Willow drunk, on the TV show or in the comics. Xander might not drink at all, considering the problems with alcoholism in his family. Riley is too much the responsible type to go out and get plastered at parties.

A lot of the people at that party were quite drunk... enough that the police were called.

I'm thinking Buffy's friends probably know whom she spent the night with. She just doesn't seem to have asked yet. But obviously she at least suspected she had sex that night, since an upset stomach was enough to make her run and get a home pregnancy test.

Well, when you wake up nude with some guys pants and belt in your bed...it makes sense you'd think you slept with someone. There are other telltale signs, too ;)
Oh, wow, wow, wow. I seriously can't even handle this.

*deep breath*

Okay, so my predictions were true;
Buffy doesn't know who the father is
, and I totally called that it might be Tumble's. Personally? I know some fans are "offended" that Buffy would get pregnant in this way, but I think it's really realistic and believable. People get drunk all the time and have sex with people without protection. I think that this experience will be very interesting for Buffy and for us.

I'm trying to look on the bright side, okay...

Also, as one of you aptly pointed out, the man in question left his belt in Buffy's bed...who wears a belt? Spike. What color was the belt? Can someone check? I don't think I have that issue....it's a clue, not much of one, I know...most men wear belts...

God, I'm going insane here. When does the next issue come out?

Tumble could be the father. His name is slang for sex, after all. He seemed awfully comfortable walking into Buffy's room in the middle of the night without knocking, and he's the only person who could have gone to bed the night of the party without needing to put his pants back on first.

So, Allie said that Buffy will have a career change, does that mean leaving Slaying or being a barista? Thoughts?

I'm not sure but I am glad that it's happening.

I'm not offended about this storyline. It's unfortunate, & who wants to see Buffy unhappy? Of course we'd rather a pregnancy be a happy occasion for her with someone she loves. But it does happen. I do kind of tire of Whedon's constant harping on the negative consequences of sex. It's like, who needs abstinence-only education? Have them watch a Whedon show! It's an immature perspective of sexuality.

But as to this one particular situation? It happens to a lot of people. I don't see her in a negative light because she had one single wild night.

I don't see her in a poor light, but I do think they're throwing everything they can at our hero and seeing what we hate. From Student Loan demon to Severin to pregnancy to That Upcoming Cover.

I've already made it know that I want it to be either Heinrich or Andrew's baby (yeah, wasn't kidding...) but I think the bigger deal is 'How is Buffy going to cope with this?'

I'm not a Slayer and the change (normal to expecting to parent) was immense and difficult. Frankly, I care more about that than about the babydaddy. Can you see anyone letting Buffy patrol whilst pregnant? Does Buffy even know how to handle children? The only ones we ever saw her with were Hansel and Gretel.

I really hate waiting for new issues! LOL

ITA about Buffy patrolling while pregnant; who would let her and why would she?!

Good points. A child doesn't fit into Buffy's life at all.
I just stumbled upon a revelation today that Master's full name is Heinrich Joseph Nest. How is that funny?

AndrewCrossett : We never saw him dust after Angel put a fist through his head, and the Seed was still whole when that happened. I could never understand why he was back in S8 and it was never explained... now if he was playing Purple man at that party... making her think she had sex when she was already pregnant... then send roses. Master has hypnotic powers . I am not sure I like this idea, but I think having sex with that old thing is out of the question.

brinkster130 agrees: ITA about Buffy patrolling while pregnant; who would let her and why would she?!
This doesn't bother me so much. Most women continue doing whatever it is they're doing before they get pregnant. And very active women continue their sports/activities for quite some time. Of course, her job is more dangerous than others, but I can still see her patrolling in the earlier months, especially with backup. And I wonder if her Slayer self-healing abilities will apply to the fetus. It's not quite an independent entity. It's dependent on her body for nourishment, growth, & protection.

If some of the other Slayers would help out, then she could sit out the final months, working with them from a non-fighty position. Speaking of that, it seems unrealistic that every single Slayer hates Buffy. I wonder if we'll see a few show up.

On a different note, it seems obvious that Williw's going to be gone for awhile. That makes me sad, especially since she & Buffy seemed closer in this issue. But I am really excited to see her journey.

When 1st reading these 5 issues, I was annoyed with Willow- I thought that she was whiney and harping on Buffy too much about the Seed. Upon re-reading, I don't think that's the case. During conversations with Buffy she says numerous times that she's not mad. She's just laying out the facts of the repercussions of the destruction of the Seed. It has little to do with blame. That's just the way that Buffy is interpreting it, because of her guilt.

And I am loling about the thought of shipping Buffy/the Master. Baster? Buffster? Masty? Musty?

Allie said that Spike's not gonna let her fight. And Buffy gets mad. So I'm guessing she's not gonna fight, or will but against Spike's will.

Interesting. I can definitely see Spike being very protective of her baby.
