But that doesn't necessarily mean sit out during the entire pregnancy.

I don't think either way Spike would want to let her. Though it is possible that in the beginning he will. He's very protective of who he cares about. Maybe too much 😛

Do you think the job Buffy will be getting is because she will need to feed the baby somehow? She didn't have a job until now right?

She did have a job at the coffee shop, remember? But that is most likely minimum wage and doesn't provide health insurance. Hmm, I wonder if she'll get a job with the police? They left off on a not-terrible foot at the end of #4 and there was her earlier comment in #1 about the season 3 vocational testing (recommended police work). And they may realize how helpful she can be.

I don't remember because I haven't read it, that's why I asked 😛

She cant work for the police department, if she's pregnant.

They will more than likely put her on a desk job. Which in time will bore her.

Sorry! I had no idea.

Right that's why I'm thinking more of an advisory position, especially in regards to vampire or supernatural issues.

Someone please remind me: what is the time span between 8.39 and 8.40, and what is the time span between 8.40 and 9.1?

George Jeanty said in his interview at ********* ( Dec 2010, session #17):" #40 takes place six months later #39".

I think tsis statement works against Angel fatherhood...

Yeah, but he might have lied. The only reference in the text itself was 4 months.
This doesn't bother me so much. Most women continue doing whatever it is they're doing before they get pregnant. And very active women continue their sports/activities for quite some time. Of course, her job is more dangerous than others, but I can still see her patrolling in the earlier months, especially with backup. And I wonder if her Slayer self-healing abilities will apply to the fetus. It's not quite an independent entity. It's dependent on her body for nourishment, growth, & protection.

I know most women continue to be active; what worries me is the number of times Buffy gets kicked and punched in the gut as well as thrown while fighting. It would be absurd for her to think that could all of a sudden stop that from happening. I find it odd that she would want to continue patrolling and fighting if there was a possibility that it would put her child at risk. Interesting thought about the slayer healing powers, I wonder if they would apply to the fetus and how Buffy would know if it did.

And I am loling about the thought of shipping Buffy/the Master. Baster? Buffster? Masty? Musty?

LOL! The Master probably was Musty! 😛

I strongly suspect now the Master's name use for the neighbor was the intended pun - yeah, like she was so drunk that she went and had a 20 min quicky with the Master. Other than that I will be very pissed if (1) she does not go to the doctor right away and have ultrasound to find out how far in she is, and (2) consider an abortion. Because whatever they say sex under influence with unknown partner is a violation of privacy and dignity. Now, they might make her go to the doctor and never tell us why she is keeping the baby and how far is she in her pregnancy... that would seriously suck. And if the baby turns out to be a mistake by unknown gentleman - and she keeps it because 'life is sacred' then I will quit. I kind of don't believe in this though. There are too many parallels with Veronica Mars series so far, and Allie made a few references to VM a few times before S9.

I'm not sure but I am glad that it's happening.
I'm not offended about this storyline. It's unfortunate, & who wants to see Buffy unhappy? Of course we'd rather a pregnancy be a happy occasion for her with someone she loves. But it does happen.
But as to this one particular situation? It happens to a lot of people. I don't see her in a negative light because she had one single wild night.

I'm not offended, either. But, I have seen some comments from fans who seem to be.

I do kind of tire of Whedon's constant harping on the negative consequences of sex. It's like, who needs abstinence-only education? Have them watch a Whedon show! It's an immature perspective of sexuality.

This is a good point...

But wasn't Buffy wanted by the police before? Or the FBI? She was a most-wanted, right? And she has been arrested. Having a record like that would have it difficult to become an officer, unless someone pulls a huge favor for her. More realistic would be Willow or someone else getting a job for her. Or she could always do construction again, lol

I don't see Buffy in a negative light either. But whatever happens to a lot of people does not mean the said people should curl up and accept - 'yeah I might have been violated, big deal, now lets move on and think of raising the baby'. Because honestly, I think it is a big deal when one finds herself pregnant and has no clue who is the daddy. Veronica was not pregnant , but she went out and made a big deal about finding out how that happened to her ( she woke up without her underwear and with evidence of having sex after the party where she passed out). If Buffy does any less after finding out she is actually pregnant by unknown entity I will be seriously upset. There is a chance of a rape and heck if this should be just passed off as a funny a plot twist. Not fair to these many young woman who wake up after drunken party and have no idea what happened to them.

Great post. I completely agree.
And the last thing is continuous Veronica Mars references - if you saw the series ( I was only able to finish 1 st season but that was enough) the entire 1 st season 'mystery' was who took advantage of VM whilst she was black out drunk. Turns out that she had sex with her legit boyfriend who was also rufied. I won't be surprised if Buffy will be investigating her own pregnancy - only to find out she in fact was pregnant long before that party.

Um, no, it was another guy, Beaver, who raped Veronica.

Just sayin...

I'm curious where Joss plans to take Buffy, but I doubt that he wants to tell a story about family bliss. A disasters that happened to Angel and Connor will be reinvented for Buffy and her baby - perils, prophecies, pain, confrontations, death, impossible choices...

I thought about this too, and I don't think she will. Abortion is still pretty taboo, and this is a very mainstream story. I'd be very surprised if Buffy got an abortion.

Moscow Watcher I actually saw the series. Beaver did not touch her - after she sipped a spiked drink at the party she passed out , he only brought her to the guest room and left her there. Then her at the time boyfriend came in (after having a drink spiked with Rohypnol too - these kids were doing drugs and alcohol) and they made out both drunk and rophied.

You admit it yourself that you only watched Season 1, why do you insist? Sorry to spoil it to you, but Beaver did rape Veronica that night.

Why would he outright lie like that? You've said this several times, although it was in reference to Allie before. What proof do you have that any of them have outright lied to readers? Mis-leads yes. That happened during the show. But out-and-out lies.

Personally I would not be upset if Buffy considers abortion. I don't think she (or rather, the writers) would go through with it. But it seems to be a perfectly natural thought (however fleeting) to have in this situation. A woman's descion whether to terminate or CTT is extremely personal and varied.

I wish Buffy could have a pregnancy that wasn't an "oh crap I'm pregnant" but a happy thing. I mean, but is that me putting my own expectations that a pregnancy is inherently a good thing? I'm not sure where the line is. It did make me think of this though:

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0rhH_QGXtgQ"]Tropes vs. Women: #5 The Mystical Pregnancy - YouTube[/ame]

It mentions Cordelia and Connor, but it gets mostly relevent at 3:55 talking about how it uses pregnancy as a way to inflict terror on female characters. I am unsure how Buffy's pregnancy fits in with this, but I thought I'd share it!

I think realistically it's Xander or Tumble. I don't think Buffy could know she is pregnant after a few days, but what if she and Xander slept together before s9 #1 and got pregnant, and also slept with Tumble when she got drunk in s9 #1 and that's why his pants were in her room? We've seen that Dawn and Xander have had some issues, enough for him to be sleeping on the couch. Maybe they were on the skids and Buffy and Xander just got together. That could also explain why Xander is more ok with keeping Buffy at arms length. But because Buffy is pretty sure she slept with someone in issue 1, as well as Xander and Angel, she still isn't sure who the father is.

It would suck to have that happen to Dawn. And even though I'm definitely Spuffy over Bangel, there's a part of me that wants Buffy and Xander to work out. Call me crazy!
