Bought the full trade after reading through Season 12 honestly hoping it'd be a story of Giles going to high school and having hijinks with some baddie fighting, maybe forming his own band of three and fighting said baddies.
Poorly written and wtf was with the choices they made for Giles' dialogue? I mean sure, make him horny and want to play video games but this man who grew up in England and lived in America in his 30s-40s during the 90s and early 2000s (and maybe a little late 80s, I haven't followed Flav much beyond Flavor of Love) would not have access to these sorts of references (see my favorite unfavorites below)--if anything, why the hell didn't they use modern ones that he may have picked up from his recent time exploring his teen side? Was there need to capitalize on 90s/early 2000s nostalgia so great that it was worth losing any sense of realism? This really just felt like a cash grab.
TBF to Giles' voice, this last one is really just a joke for us, but *eyeroll*.
The one cool thing about the mini-series, as pointed out above by @TriBel, is that it deals a lot with race issues in America, from her slave beginnings (the owner Sheffield, no less, IIRC... I don't have it with me, so maybe I am making up this connection between her slaver and the cop at the school) until the present day. Race has formed Roux's experience and that was interesting since the Buffyverse leans real white, especially for vamps. I like that they wanted to explore what being black in America is like for a vampire that lived through slavery until now. But other than that... meh.
