Divorce is painful for all involved i think.
My parents are still married, 36 years in September. They separated for three months last year and even though i'm married with a family of my own, it felt weird. But i belong to that group whose parents are still married though shouldn't be, because they're miserable, well my mother is. My dad... well he's a whole different story... a real piece of work. I could write reams and reams on that guy on what he's done, what he continues to do and all the time he claims he's the innocent victim in everything, as i said, a piece of work. When my parents separated that time, he bugged me and my sister on the phone so often that my normally mild mannered husband told him to back the hell off or face not seeing his grandchildren again. It worked. He stayed out of my face.
My dad was a bully during my growing up fragile teen years. Told me i'd never amount to anything, that i was basically useless and as a result i have extremely poor self esteem. If it weren't for my husband, i don't know where i'd be today, cliched as it may seem. But now that i'm married with kids of my own, it's like he has amnesia about it all, concocting all these stories about our supposedly blissful childhood that never happened. He used to intimidate the hell out of me, but no more. I tell him now exactly what i think of him and i pull absolutely no punches.
When we were kids, (i have two younger siblings), he made our lives hell, i mean, a living hell and my mother did nothing to stop it. She was intimidated too, and i think she thought that we still needed an entire family, not a single parent family. She used to take his crap and that used to make me mad. If my husband treated me the same way as my dad treated us, there'd be no way i'd stick around. I know we would've coped with just our mum raising us. I look at her now, we've all moved out with lives of our own, and she's so unhappy. My dad thinks there's nothing really wrong, but it's written all over her face. Sometimes my dad complains to me that my mum works too hard, that she doesn't talk to him and i feel like telling him to talk to her, not me about it, instead i tell him, i'm just not interested anymore. I'm past caring. I literally do not care what happens to that marriage anymore, they're not happy, or at least my mum isn't happy, they won't do anything about it so i am past caring what happens to them.
Weeeelll, that was a ramble and a half wasn't it? 😉
Signing off now before i make everyone else depressed 😀
