do you believe in it?
and why?

I believe in divorce because i think that two people can make mistakes and/or change their mind with time.
I dont think that it is the best alternative (esp. if there are kids in the mix 🙁) i mean i think that people arent too carefull about who they marry and why and that is basically the root of all the problems. reminds me of a french proverb that says "Vaux mieux prévenir que guérir" --its better to prevent than to cure--(thats the best translation i could come up with lol sorry 🙂 )
some people dont take mariage serioulsy and they really should. then they just abuse of "divorce" and they misuse it and all.

all in all i think that its a good establishment, but you just cant abuse of it...

I definitely believe in divorce for one reason. My parents-those were two people who never should have gotten married to begin with let alone stay that way for more than 25 years. Thankfully, they put the marriage out of it's misery eventually!

I definitely believe in divorce; much for the same reason as Jacklyn; my parents. If there were no such thing as divorce my mum and I would have been stuck with a violent and abusive man until he killed us, which I don't doubt for a second he would have done. but perhaps Im a little biased 😉

Being Roman Catholic I don't agree with divorce. When you take your wedding vows it should be forever. I understand that there are some incidences when divorce can't be avoided though.

I'm lucky because I've never had to deal with divorce. The only person who I know who has been divorced is my uncle and I was too young then to understand what was going on.

My parents got divorced when I was five. It was definitely hard to only live with one parent at a time, especially when my mom moved to another state. But it was for the best. I would think it crazy if a couple stayed together just for the kids. If they're not happy, then they cannot survive. Divorce stinks...but sometimes it's for the best.

i see you guys are mostly for divorce
and if you are against it, you still see a reason why people would divorce

jacklyn & willow- i agree with both of you, my parents arent divorced, i just think they should be... they make each other miserable

jules-i totally agree with you.. i am not against divorce, but i think that if people married for the right reasons there would be no need for it ever

ninjalizer- i dont think its crazy to stay together for kids, if pple are not at each others throats, and the children are very young, then yes they stay together for the sake of the kids

I think that some people don't take marriage seriously. Others are just not good couples. Either of these people shouldn't get married and having a divorce is fine. But some people don't even try to work their differences out because divorce is a quick fix for them. If you're a good couple, you should try to work out your differences.
My parents got divorced when I was 13. I think they were an okay match and they speak of each other nicely.

i think divorce is a good option for people to have, For example, if your husband/wife cheated on you, well i personally could never forgive them. Divorce would be the only way forward for me. Divorce gives people the chance to break free and start afresh.

My parents got divorced when I was seven. There was a lot of cheating and stealing done by my dad... pretty much why I've hated him ever since. Two years after they got divorced, my mom, sister, brother and I had to move out of our house. I pretty much lost everything, especially my best friends. Although I hate divorce and what its results are, I definitely believe in it because of my parents. People shouldn't even bother getting married in the first place. I'm the kind of person who believes that every relationship with ultimately end.

One of the many reasons I don't follow that Religion any more. The church turned its back on my mother when she divorced her abusive husband. (not my father). I don't believe that a religion should be able to dictate what you can and cannot do in your life.

I think all Catholics should watch Dogma, gives you another perspective on things.

Off course I believe in divorce ... what was it again, "Errata Humanum Est" ... or we're only human, we make mistakes ... and even if we do, we would be making even a bigger mistake, not repairing the first.

I know the Roman Catholic religion isn't perfect and I suppose I'm slightly hipercritical, in that I only follow certain beliefs out of that religion, like I don't believe in the no sex before marriage belief or that sex should only be used as a form of reproduction and protection is not allowed. Them beliefs in todays society just don't fit.

And I think that if a person is in an abusive relationship then divorce should be allowed by the church. But I think some marriages take advantage of divorce and use it as an easy way out. For example, most actors are usually married a year and then they divorce.

I didn't read many of the previous posts, but I'd say yes and no.
Yes if you don't have children and you REALLY hate each other. No if you have children, or can stand each other. (try and work it out).

My parents are getting a divorce over the next 2 months. Really tense in the house right now. This isn't for pity, cause I understand that alot of you have gone through it already, so I know what it's like as well.

Personaly, I don't plan on getting married. If I do, I don't want kids tell at least 8 years of being married. That way I should be happy with my 'mate'.

Jules, I agree with you on so many of the points you have posted.

Many people use divorce as an easy way out, an excuse. However, there are situations in which I believe divorce is an answer and must happen. I think that in those situations, even the Catholic church will give an annulment.

I'm sorry for all those who have been touched by divorce in the past or present. I'm sure it is a very trying and emotional time. I can't even begin to imagine....my thoughts and prayers go out to you.

You gotta work for True Love!

I believe that sometimes divorce is neccessary, but I also believe that marriage can and should be a lifetime commitment. Divorce is absolutely necessary in certain are situations, such as abuse and chronic adultry.

However, one of my favorite sayings is, "You have to earn your way out of a marriage." To me, that means that if your marriage isn't going the way you want, you have to figure out how to fix it. I honestly believe that if both people are willing to work at it, a marriage can improve.

I think that one of the saddest lies the media tells us is that love is "meant to be" because the corellary is if a marriage doesn't last, it must not have been right in the first place. I think this perpetuates the belief that the "right" relationship is easy, and euphoric love lasts forever. I can tell you right now that every couple that's been together for 20 or 30 or 40 years will tell you their together because they've worked at their relationship, not because they depended on fate, or they never had days that they wanted out.

Like I said, i think abusive situations are different. Although I think an abusive person can change, I'd never fault someone who was abused for leaving the relatitonship.

My parents are going through divorce...I believe in it because...They were in love but they just arent any more...Its hard tho because both of them are great. But hey.If the people who cook, clean, do laundry, drive us places, etc.etc.etc. arent happy, how are we sapposed to be?So yea, i believe in it.

I always believe in choice. If two people do not want to be around each other in marriage for whatever reason, they should have the option of divorce. What if you were married to a person you've come to hate and cannot divorce them?

you get coolness points for actually paying attention to Dogma instead of thinking of it as just a dumb comedy, like most people do...

on the thread, divorce is sort of a meh kind of thing when you really don't plan to have a church-like wedding.... because it's only an issue when you take the whole vows and stuff, if not then it's just a natural separation in case things didn't work out...

Many of my reasons for this were posted by other members already, so I won't dive into them again. But I will say that, nothing is worse than staying together just because you want to make sure your kids will be ok. If things have happened to cause this divorce, then it would be ridiculous to stay together. The tension will build and build if nothing is released, and then it could explode in the end, with definite negative results. If a couple is having such trouble, it is for the best that they not stay together and pull the fake "we still love each other" sketch. It won't work. It will only breed more tension.

It's tough on the kids...but they'll have to learn to deal with it. I did, as well the others here who have gone through it.

i meant if the two people in the couple are still friends, if they still get along but just dont love each other..
if not, of course its better to seperate for your childs well being

i absolutely agree, pple make mistakes all the time by not trying hard enough.
My aunt divorced my uncle because they just couldnt get along, even though they still had feelings for each other. they never tried sitting down and communicating, they went for the divorce as an easy way out. but they were still in love with each other. my uncle eventually commited suicide and my aunt now has endless remorses. she still misses him and loves him and thinks that if they had tried enough they probably would of worked things out.

you see sorta that same phenomenon appear with stars who divorce and remarry the same person a few times.
