Do people with younger sisters like Dawn more?

This is my theory. Dawn attracts a lot of hate from fandom for apparently being whiny, annoying and brattish, but I love her despite that. I think that people who have younger sisters like Dawn more, because our own little sisters are annoying, whiny and brattish, but we love them anyway. She's a very realistic depiction of a little sister, and I think that people with little sisters can relate to her because of that.

So, tell me, do you support or contradict my theory?

Well, I do not have a younger sister, but I love Dawn, so I guess I don't fit your theory ;)

I have a little brother, so I might still fit in with your theory. lol Still sounds pretty feasible.
Whilst I do have younger sisters I'm not sure if that's the reason I don't hate Dawn.

I didn't mind her when I first watched the series, and I actually quite like her character.

However, I think I've been influenced by fandom and fanfiction, who seem to make her a more sympathetic and likeable character than she was in canon. And that has then been reflected when I watch the episodes again.

Yup i see what you mean. I have a lil sis too, i did hate Dawn for being whiny and brattish, but most lil sisters are those things. Especially annoying.
But you just gotta accept it, they're gonna grow up one day anways....
I've sorta learned to accept Dawn. I like Michelle T better though. 😛

Hm, I'm the younger sister in this case, and I really don't like Dawn, she makes people in my age group look bad. 😀

My older sister hates Dawn too, but we both also hate the actress, so... 😉

LOL... yes, in the 5th season I thought that same thing! hahaha
I love Dawn. And I have a younger sister.

It was so hard to watch her in early season 5 tough. All bad memories from my sis' and my past came up(we had gotten past the hating phase in our sibling relationship when I watched season 5, but I still remembered all the tears and loathing). But then I started to not dislike her, became a bit indifferent, but by season 7(or one of my re-watches of season 7) I started to really dig her. It happened step by step. It was hard not too feel for her when Joyce and Buffy died, and during season 6, she was still annoying, but she was still easy to feel sympathy with. Then in season 7, she really grew. We didn't just see the whiny, insecure, bubbly cute teen, we got to see the woman.

And now in season 8, I love her.

Back to your theory: I think you could be right. But also wrong, since people like me might look at early Dawn and remember all that sibling rivalry crap. So it could be right for some. I think people who are younger sisters might also like Dawn more, because they could put themselves in her shoes in a way older siblings, like me, might not.

I'm indifferent to Dawn, I don't feel strongly one way or another and my younger sister and I are the exact same ages as Dawn and Buffy.

I don't think having a younger sister made me like Dawn, although it did make me empathise with Buffy, so if anything having a little sister made me dislike Dawn. Although I found Dawn irritaing at first, she was not so bad once she had got over herself (by about late season 6 or the start of season 7), and this is fairly synonomous with my feelings towards my own sister, as she was much less irritating once she had matured somewhat.

I have a younger sister who I am very close with and that might have something to do with why the Buffy/Dawn relationship appeals to me. The only thing I don't like about the Buffy/Dawn relationship is that after Dawn got introduced, Willow and Buffy never seemed to be as close as they were in high school.

I am the youngest in my family and have an older brother and an older sister...I would do exactly what Buffy did, for my family if I had to and I know that my siblings would do that as well. But I want to believe I have never been the brat Dawn was in season 5.In fact I have been more disciplined than my older siblings. I sometimes felt ignored or I was getting mad at my siblings when I was younger, but me and my siblings have quite the age difference so I sometimes felt like an only child.(they were away for studies or work)

And I would never do what she did in "Empty Places"...she shows great disrespect towards the sacrifice of her sister and the love she has given her.I don't like Dawn because she has to whine about sth all the time with no particular reason. When I started liking her in end of season 6 and season 7...Empty Places happened and I hated her...

I don't have a younger sister, but I do have an older one and I know she hates Dawn with a passion. And I know when we were younger I was a total brat to her. As for my feelings for Dawn, I disliked her until season 7, even though if I think I acted alot like her (minus the cutting my arms/starting fires 😛) when I and my sister were younger.

I have a younger sister. But I still dont like Dawn (I like her more in Season 7 She wasnt that whiny)

I definitely agree with your theory. Most people I know who like/love Dawn do so because she reminds them of their siblings. 🙂

I like Dawn and I had an annoying younger sister. I still got a younger sister, she just stopped being annoying. 😉 So I fit into your theory but I doubt it'll fit with everyone. But maybe a patterna will show at least.

I wouldn't say that Dawn reminds me of my sister. But maybe she still bring out the big brother in me.

I've got a younger sister, but there's only a years difference between us so I've always felt like she's the same age as me. We don't get on at all though. Dawn was annoying at the beginning, but I thought she was just written badly, cos I like Michelle a lot.

I like dawn but i dont have a younger sister. But just as older siblings see the younger ones as annoying, i've noticed the younger ones look at the older ones as annoying too.

Believe me, as a person with a younger sister and two older sisters, they're all annoying. :P
Well, I think that the theory is right, because my older sister likes Dawn. As a matter fact, she liked Dawn before I did. And now I like Dawn and Michelle T.

I only have an older brother and sister, but I love Dawn! I thought she was hilarious in season 5, I didn't really care if she was whiney or bratty. It was funny. Maybe I only think that because me and my brother got on eachothers nerves a LOT. Still do, actually. So whenever Dawn was tormenting Buffy it made me laugh.
