Do you compete? Whats your favourite competition memory? Have your competitive choices changed as you've aged?

I have been out of competitive riding for 3 years. This is the longest I have ever gone without competing in a sport in my entire life and I miss it more than I can put into words! I am the sort of person that needs that drive, that aim for competitive display or I get bored. I dont have to be competing at a high level, just competing against more than myself.

I would LOVE to go back to rowing, Im suited to early morning starts 😀 the logistics of that might be hard cos I am nowhere near water. I dont have the patience to sit down and do craft or art or cooking and those competitions tend to be judges personal taste over talent. Obviously outgrown dancing and gymnastics. I have been considering grabbing the bow to try archery again but its not quite active enough for me. Does anyone do martial arts? Is there non contact competition (form work) in that? What about non contact team sports? Im past my competitive squash and netball days, I hate tennis but there is a local comp that is tempting and also golf but that seems to be just for the men. Darts and lawn bowls revolve around heavy drinking. Tons of motor sport where I am, but motorbikes are boring and predictable compared to horses 😛

I like playing sports, basketball and soccer mostly, but anything you can try and win is good. This last year I've been learning to golf, and am having a lot of fun with it....though it is a bit frustrating how much practice it takes but I'm slowly improving. I tend to get a bit competitive during my workout classes, trying to beat my previous times and distances for running and rowing.

A client of mine keeps asking me to go out and play golf with him. I decline. I do not think my mentality would be right. I think I would get VERY frustrated because I like to win. And he says you just play golf for fun... that kind of shit just doesn't compute with me. You play to win!

So good on you there Brinky... at least you are looking like a friggin idiot and trying to learn and then on the green wondering how many people are laughing at you and snickering behind your back. It's better than me not bothering I guess...

Maybe not. I dunno.

Going slow and working on form is so frustrating; every instinct I have is screaming at me to just smack the ball as hard as I can, but that gets you nowhere in golf. I'm sure lots of people do laugh, especially when I get cocky and try to hit the ball harder/further and swing and miss. But let me assure you, you always play to win...at least I do. Learning to golf may be a long game but, all the losses will be worth it when I one day beat my other half.

I really like the idea of a driving range, just for the smack as hard as I can factor. Playing golf via driving range alone might be my kinda golf game.
Not at all actually. Unlike brink and spanks, I don't have any drive to win. 😉
Now that I think about it, I don't think I've even entered a competition of skill before.

Um arnt you a gamer ? That seems a tad competitive :P
No, not now. When I was younger I was on the school football team and also did some running and one or two other random sports. I like to try and keep fit now, but not really interested in competing.

Haha sure gaming is a pretty competitive hobby, but I don't do it right. I've never played online against real people (overrated) and I'm more drawn to story focused games. And to the annoyance of my partner, I very rarely finish games.
