So I'm weird I know but I have thought about this for quite a while and realized I don't think I could ever date someone who isn't a fan of BtVS. Not like they aren't as good people as BtVS fans but seriously, I just find that I have so much less in common with people that don't know anything about whedonverse... I hate that my friends don't watch the show and I know I would probably be closer to them if they did, it would just work that way.
So I was just wondering, those of you who are in relationships (or have been while you were a fan), are your girlfriends/boyfriends fans as well, do they watch the show(s) at all..?

good thread idea...woot woot 400+ club!!
I'm married to a fellow fan 🙂 But, to be honest, the Buffyverse only consisted of the film when Mrs P and I tied the knot - she didn't like it and I hadn't seen it. Still, I latched on to the TV show pretty quickly and converted her to it soon after...now she lusts after David - what's he got that I haven't? (apart from the looks, the money, the fame and the talent 😉)

Heck, I'd chose David over you :P I kid.
I always prefer to go out with buffy fans, however i have only ever really dated two buffy fans and it didn't end up well, however i would love to marry a hardcore buffy fan

I often find that I have much more in common with other Btvs fans than those who aren't. My boyfriend likes to watch the show but he's not addicted to it as I am. Last summer we watched all seasons of Buffy together, so even if he doesn't like the show as much as me he still knows what I'm talking about when I make references to it, well most of the time anyway. Most likely it would be very wierd if he hadn't watched it at all, since it is a so big part of my life.

i think that certain people like certain shows...

to be honest eps...whedonverse has nothing to do with finding a woman...for me anyways...if they like it...that's fine...if they don't....that's fine too...

My girlfriend isn't a big fan of tv in general. She thinks it's a waste of time and that everything on the telly is stupid and/or silly.
And then you have me. I don't watch tv that much nowadays, but in my younger days my days and life were planned after the tv guide. And I'm the typical obsessed-fan-geeek.
Do we have less in common because of this? Both yes and no. Yes because I end up watching tv a lone most of the times and no because it's not that important to me.
But lucky me, she likes BtvS and watches it with me sometimes. Unfortunately enough she thinks Spike's cool... but that's not the issue. If she'd hated BtVS I might've had a hard time accepting it cause I can't get it into my head how you can not like BtVS.
But then again I like the fact that she's not that much into the show as I am. Cause then I can be all special in her eyes and she likes it when I make referenses to stuff in the show all the time and if she doesn't know what I'm talking about I get to explain and feel smart 😉
It gives me a little space to be unique and to have a thing that's "me", just like the fact that she's obsessed by Silver Fang and I don't like it that much and she gets to tell me stuff about the show. I like that.

Eh...not really...I mean, Jim's seen a few episodes...He think's Spike's cool. The other day I was so proud of him, though, cause I was watching the Replacement and talking to him on the phone at the same time, and he heard the scene where Xander's on the payphon going "No, it ATE my quarter" and Jim went "Hey, is that the episode where Xander gets split in two?" I was like, "YES! Yay! you're so smart!" But most of the time, I try not to talk about it too much, just because he's never sat down and watched any Buffy in order and he doesn't get it.

And you may ask why I haven't sat him down and made him watch it...Cause eventually we'd get to Season 4. And I can barely watch Season 4 without cringing at the quote "Military" unquote structure. For him, a Marine, it would be painful. 😉

I haven't dated a Buffy fan yet. But I tend to watch it so much, they watch it, so, in the end the love it eventually. Like right now, I'm trying to get my girlfriend into Buffy and she's watching the seasons. So, I guess, I convert them. 🙂

Well, I've only been with one person since Buffy started a long time ago.

He is not a Buffy fan. Through our almost six year relationship, he has not shown any interest in latching on and becoming 'obsessed' as he calls it.

But, being the wonderful guy that he is, he has dutifully watched every episode at least twice (Buffy and Angel), let me quiz him on his Buffy knowledge (recent Buffy magazine) and such things. Even though he's not a huge fan, he does make an effort to be involved because it is important to me.

And usually, if I am talking about something Buffy related, he will know where I am coming from. He's pretty smart.

I haven't dated someone who was also a Buffyverse fan. For me, it's not necessary at all. Buffy and company just make up only one of my many interests in the world and, personally it wouldn't matter if we shared that interest or not.

For me it's very important. I wouldn't date someone who's not a fan because I don't understand how someone could not be.

I dated a buffy fan for exactly 3 days. He wasn't a big fan, because he never liked to talk about it. That is not why I dumped him though. Now, my boyfriend is not a big fan, but he talks about the show with me sometimes. His favorite character is Buffy...I don't know why.**sarcasm**

My boyfriend isn't a fan. I dated a guy who liked it once, but he wasn't really my type in any other way. Needless to say, didn't last long.

My boyfriend will watch with me occassionaly, mostly because he thinks Charisma & Michelle are hot though 🙂

My current is a fan.

I remember a few years back a guy who was trying to pick me up. He was really cute but then he said Buffy the Vampire Slayer sucked....well that was the end of that conversation and I immediately used the special signal to get my friends to save me from him.

Hubby snatched up that mag as soon as I bought it..saw the quiz, and started quizzing away 😀

I'd say he's a fan..not like I am but he's seen every eppy, we used to have our 'date night' on Tuesdays to watch new Buffy and Angel eppys with a nice bottle of Shiraz and take-away....and he watches them on DVD if I put them on! I think the shared interest helps us tremendously...I'm free to be as obsessed as I can be without shame.

Our latest thing is playing the Buffy Board Game by Milton Bradley! 😀

i think thats really sad if you base your personal life on a tv show that ended like 4 years ago...i like buffy but i wouldnt dump someone just cause they dont watch it or if they werent a "die-hard" fan

Wow. Okay. I don't think it's your place to judge other people on what they do in their personal lives. And, also? Check the name of the board. Buffy Boards. So.

I don't date other Buffy fans...we have a dirth of that kinda person around here. My boyfriend is kinda vehemently opposed to Buffy. He likes Angel just fine, but Buffy is a no. Don't ask me. I just date him.

Hmmm maybe I do.. Okay yes, currently I do... And yea... Plan on keeping it that way... 🙂

I think its a really good thing, because I hate laughing about something that is Buffy related, and having the other person have no idea what the hell I'm talking about 😛

Mhm, then I'm really sad I guess, eh.

I wouldn't dump anyone if they weren't a fan of BtVS. I'm just saying I think it would be hard for me to be involved with or get that close to someone who didn't like BtVS.
