Do you like what you see when you look in the mirror?

It makes me sad that so many of you aren't happy about yourself because of your weight. I used to have a eating disorder, and believe me, nothing good comes from focusing on things like that. If you want to work out to be strong or healthy, by all means, but I think far to many people work or are on diet because they feel fat. Sadly, it is something our society teaches girls, so it's really hard to break that selfhating habit and trying to love yourself. But I promise, it's totally worth it, so try!

I'm happy about the way I look. Sure, I could find a lot of flaws and focus on all the things I'm not, like tall or super skinny, but that's not going to make me any happier. I rather think about that I'm cute, have a hourglass figure, nice eyes and the fact that I'm funny and smart and kind. 🙂 I'm also happy about where I am in life. I've been doing a lot of changes this last year and I'm really proud of myself. It can only get better and better from here on.

I'm really sorry to hear a lot of people are unhappy with their weight. Not only girls, but guys too. And I'm sorry I'm one of them.

I was skinny when I was a child. I even played teniss. Then I got sick. Really sick. My bones are unhealthy, and I have muscle disorder, so I stopped playing teniss. Things to be worse, I couldn't play any kind of sport, not even some kind of instrument. When I was a baby they disgnosed I'm alergic to dust, and few years later they discovered I'm alergic to grass too. One day I was rollerblading, which was also forbiden, but I was a kid and I was sick and tired not doing anything, and I broke a bone. Since my bones are unhealthy (I don't know the term on english) they heal really slowly so I had to stay in a hospital for few months. So I was taking drugs for my bones, for my alergies, and had no exercise.. soon I found myself being an overweight kid! My doctor recomended a diet which was really hard because I'm a vegeterian since I know for myself, and some light exercises. Things to be worse, I have a slow metabolisam. Nothing worked. And I never liked to eat a lot anyway. I was always a healt freak, and even as a kid I never liked too much candy. I mostly eat vegetables and fruit. The thing I hate the most is how people like to judge, and don't know what's the story behind the face.. that's why I never jump to conclusions. I envy girls who are skinny because I know I could've been too with no problem.. normal teen. Now I have to put up with this, and don't know who to blame, so I blame myself..

Allergy Karma! :)
I don't know. I'm visually impared and I have to wear dark glasses to guard against the sun and I hate that. I don't mind it when I look into the mirror and my hair's good and I'm not wearing glasses. I'm skinny, so that's fine and I've got my hair the way I want it. I think it's just the glasses.

I know what you mean. All of my life I used to be an athletic girl. But about 2 years ago, I injured my leg and can't do sports (which is ironic considering the fact that it happened because of doing sports). I've gained some weight since then. Not a lot, but I'm not the skinny athletic girl anymore, so that's really said.

Aw, honey. I'm sorry to hear that you have had such a hard time with a lot of things. You shouldn't blame yourself. It's noones fault, sometimes things just happen. You're so pretty (you can't convince me otherwise, we're facebook friends, remember? 🙂), you don't have to feel bad about yourself. I know it's hard, but you have so many things going for yourself, both with your looks and how smart you are. Who cares that you're not super model skinny? I don't even think the super models are that most of the time. 🙂

Thanks sweetie!
I hate myself in photos. I'm not photogenic. I can't smile genuinely to save my life. In the mirror...Well, I don't think I'm ugly. I'm just short and kinda baby-faced. My friends describe me as 'cute' because of that and sometimes I wish I was taller. But really, I don't care. I'm a tomboy who would be content to wear trackies and a T-shirt all day every day. I don't try very hard with my appearance. I don't wear make-up. I'm just too lazy to care. My mother's always on at me to care about my appearance and dress more femininely and not spend all my time on electronic devices, but...I don't think I'm fat, but I'd like to be fitter because I am soooooooo unfit. 😀

BABYFACE-KARMAAAAA!
Depends on the day...some days I like what I see other days I don't. If I could change one thing about myself it would be my height. I'm 5'9" but I'd like to be taller (thats the basketball player in me talking).

*Ohh* I thought of another thing...I have a couple grey hairs! Not many, but I notice them...isn't 24 WAY to young for that?!! I may need to take a trip to the salon and get then covered soon -.-

I found a grey hair when I was ten. Man, that freaked me out...
What bothers me is not really that I'm fat, it's more that I'm not healthy enough. I wish I moved faster, I wish I wasn't tired when I climb the (many) stairs of my school. So when I look at myself, I'm more bothered by "I don't look healthy like that" than by "I look fat". When I was doing hoola-hoop 45minutes/day, I was still...Chubby but I looked more firm, you know?

I understand what you're saying. It just sucks that weight should be such a big deal in our society. Even if you're trying not to focus on it there's always some magazine or some tv program or even some person in real life telling you that your not good enough the way you are. I think it leads to a lot of people focus on what they could be instead of being happy about what they actually are.

Yeah, those pressures are terrible. The worst is when you go to a shop and only the superskinny sizes are left (which happens an awful lot during sales). It's depressing when you see a wonderful dress and you can only find it in Victoria Beckham's size. But as long as I still have gorgeous clothes anyway, thanks to New Look and H&M who make big sizes clothes, I don't have to worry to much 😀

I love looking in the mirror! I'm always checking myself out, lol. Very "Hello, bombshell!" Sometimes I think I should gain some weight, or I'll wish that I looked a bit older and less cutesy, but naaaah, I love how how I look. 🙂

Because you're so damn cute!
Nope. I'm very overweight, my hair is terrible, my gums are entirely too big, and I have really small boobs, lol.

I'm very happy with myself in terms of the person I am, but I really hate my appearance.

I used to literally loathe everything about myself. Growing up in a family of blonde-haired, blue-eyed, super athletic people made me VERY self-conscious about my black hair, hazel eyes, and chubby body. All my cousins were graced with gorgeous faces and bodies; it seemed like they never had to work to look good. My sister and I, on the other hand, are very plain in comparison. We're both naturally curvy women and we have to work really hard to stay at an acceptable weight. Over the years, I learned to accept my face and to make the most out of what I have. I do like my eyes and hair now that I've learned how to fix my hair and put makeup on, so I always make sure that no matter what, at least I look ok from the neck up.
Since having kids, I hate my body even more, but I'm working on it. I'm not grossly obese but I could definitely stand to lose some weight. However, I don't want to look like a twig. I'd just like to get back to a single-digit pants size again.
I am definitely not HAPPY with what I see when I look in the mirror, but I've learned to accept what I can't change, and work with what I've got.

What's not to love? 😀

Seriously, I'm about the most unphotogenic person there is in the entire universe. There are veeeeery few photos in which I actually like myself (such as this, I'm the one on the left), because I look drunk in most - I can't smile unselfconsciously for love nor money.

Reflection-wise, I suppose I'm ok with how I look. I'm tall (5'8''),have dark hair and green eyes and while I'm no model, I'm not overweight either. I grew up with an incredibly beautiful sister, which tends to inhibit you somewhat, but all in all I guess it could be worse.

You kinda look like Fred!
I think I'm pretty. Beautiful is a stretch. I need to lose more to be considered beautiful in my book, but I can turn some heads.

When I look in the mirror, I see my mother. I love that. I wouldn't change how I look because it's how my mother looked, my grandmother, my great-grandmother, etc. We're all doppelgangers. TBH, I'd like to be a little shorter. I'm tall for a girl, and it annoys me. I tower over most of my friends.

That's a lovely attitude :)
Is there some way we can actual photos? Buffy Boards is on Facebook, of course. If I told you guys my real name, or my Facebook account number, you could friend me and see all kinds of pictures. It wouldn't bother me, but I don't know if there's an etiquette about it.

well you could upload pictures to a photo hosting page (i.e. photobucket) and link to them, like I did in my post.

I believe the mods advise discretion when sharing pictures or info; but I don't believe it's outright forbidden.
Short answer: No.

Long(er) answer: I'm not exactly crying over what I see. I'll never be beautiful like some of those actresses (standing next to Clare Kramer for a photo was actually kinda painful, lol) but I'm never gonna let that get me down so much that I'd be willing to do something drastic to change it. It's who I am. Plus, I TERRIFIED of injections, so cosmetic surgery is a BIG no.

M
Ms.Trick
Cosmetic surgery really sucks most of the time! :D
Yes.

I think I'm attractive. The only complaint I have is my weight, which honestly, i'm not fat, but I'm not my ideal weight.

I'm kinda scared to lose weight though. I don't wanna lose my awesome boobs! 😉
