Do you like what you see when you look in the mirror?

I also don't really see anyone as "ugly."

True! I know this girl who keeps saying "I am ugly, but ugliness is an art". She actually looks like an old movie star, Hepburn like. She just sometimes wear makes up or things that don't really suit her. But whatever she wears, on pictures, she just has this attitude who really makes her look like Debby Harry. Not physically, more like magnetically. And I think she is really beautiful in the sense that sometimes you look at her and briefly think "She souldn't wear this like that". But it's never long when you think that. Everything in her says "I am who I am. I don't care about looking like a girl in the magazines. I'm not them. I am me. Sod off if you don't like it."
I see her grow up and thanks to that attitude and the fact she wasn't always good-looking, she really grows up into a hell of a little woman.

While some friends of her are top-model-pretty, but don't have that aura of self-acceptance.
And between looking like a top-model and looking like an almost average girl whose personality shines outside...I'd pick the second one!

I love you location LOL.
Nope. I've never liked looking in the mirror. For the longest time I avoided them completely. I would even brushed my teeth in the dark. I still dont love to look in the mirror except to put on makeup lol.

I've always thought I was fat even when I wasn't. In high school I struggled with an eating disorder. I was convinced I was fat and now that I weigh more I look back and think I was nuts. But it's hard to diet and not get carried away. If you're not happy with yourself it wont matter how much you weigh. You could look in the mirror and weigh 90lbs and still think your ugly, unless you accept yourself.

I don't look in the mirror when I bursh my teeth either. No one looks flattering brushing their teeth, it's kind of depressing.

I belive that's because people who are very pretty grow up with that fact. Since they were kids people were 'You're so pretty.' Period. That's it. Probably that people belive that their looks is their highets goal. And we all know looks fade.
On the other hand, people who are not blessed to be extremly beautiful, they're certain in what they are, and not on how they look like.

aaaw you so sweet, guys 🙂 But I think that it is a good thing that I know that I have a problem. It is not that I think that I'm fat every time I look in the mirror, the problem is just that I do not think that I am skinny enough.. My biggest wish is just to get comfortable with my body and stop all this calories-counting, because it is not healthy 🙂

Besides.. I do see nice things in myself.

E.g. I do like my eyes, especially the color (they're brown). And I like that my nose is "different" xD lol.

But what bugs me the most is that my skin is kinda bad :s

I totally agree. I like to do crazy stuff with my makeup and clothes and people will tell me that I can "pull it off," but they wouldn't be able to. I don't really think that's true. I think anyone can pull off any look as long as they have the confidence to back it up. The hard part is getting the confidence. :/

And Goldilocks, your cousin is clearly insane; you look great!

Ever since I saw this thread pop up I've been mentally composing a response. But I'm yet to really be able to form what I want to say. And its not about me, but about all of you who may have answered something along the lines of 'no' to this question. To say what I want to say would mean saying a lot of things about myself that I'm too tired and ill to put into words, and to try and instil within all of you how beautiful you all are. A few minutes ago I was looking for some quotes and stumbled across this and I immediately wanted to share it in this thread specifically. It comes from One Tree Hill - surprised huh? 😛 - and it's just one of those that has always resonated with me:

"Take a look in a mirror and remind yourself to be happy because you deserve to be. Believe that." (Peyton Sawyer).

I hope that for now this in some way expresses some of things I am currently unable to say myself. Think about it a bit and read beyond it. 🙂

Basically for me it is a simple answer. No.
So many beautiful women hate what they see in the mirror, I'm sure if half of them posted up an image of themselves they would find mass approval. It confuses me almost as much as when naturally gorgeous ladies plaster themselves in make-up and end up looking repulsive.

For me it is about being over weight. I have been diagnosed with an underactive thyroid this year and am about to be tested for Glucose Intollerance as my body is hating me at the moment and just piling on the weight for no apparent reason. SO yup I'm hating myself at the moment. But I know what you mean as most women I see say they are over weight or ugly or something and they are beautiful.

Drink lots of water (if you have a glass before meals you'll find yourself less hungry) and eat lots of fruit. That alone will greatly improve your situation, if you want to be toned and really fit the most easy and pleasurable non-XXX way I've found is by taking up swimming. I did that and discovered muscles in places I didn't know they existed- it was a great confidence booster because I had bitches flirting with me and fighting for my attention out of the blue, which was the complete opposite of what I was used to.

If you don't fancy doing any exercise just change your diet for the better- over six months this will make a huge difference and is what I have done to get over my recent fat Elvis period. While I'm not muscly or anything now I have a pretty nice body and I literally do no exercise. It's all about the diet. One other thing to remember is that you don't have to be wafer thin to be attractive, curvy (not fat) women can be damn sexy too. Think Tara out of Buffy. Chin up Nix, I bet if you follow my advice you can make loads of men pop awkward spontaneous erections by next summer 🙂

I have always had a horrible self image of myself. I know that sounds whiny but it is true. I grew up in a place that was not very good for my self esteem and self image so nowadays I have problems even looking in the mirror some days.

...That sounds bad. Sorry folks.

me too.
I'm pretty happy with it, yeah. I've through periods of insecurity with my weight, but I've now pretty much accepted that I'm never going to be slim and svelte. I'm short and a little overly curvy, and my stomach isn't the flattest thing in the world 😛 But on the other hands, I have decent cleavage and an alright arse, so it's a fair trade off. As far as my features go, I'm not a big fan of my nose, and my hair's a bit frizzy at times, but again, on the other hand, though my hair can be unmanageable, it's long and thick, and I quite like how it looks when it's behaving itself. 21 years old, and I've accepted that I've not got the perfect appearance, but it's one I can live with. Useful, really, given that my bedroom wardrobe has giant mirror doors, I'd be screwed if I was miserable every time I looked in the mirror XD

Saying that, me in the morning with sticking up hair, a pillow creased face, and the ability to form only the words "Grah" and "Gowaylemmeslee...zzz..." is still a terrifying sight.

Also, having glanced at some of the pictures in people's profiles, ye all look awesome!

.. says the woman who doesn't have a profile picture!
Does this forum not have a 'post pictures of yourself' thread? If not someone should start one, I'm quite interested in seeing what some of the people so down on themselves actually look like.

I'm pretty sure we don't have those kinds of threads for safety reasons.

Yeah, we aren't really suppose to post pictures of ourselves on the board.
