Do you like what you see when you look in the mirror?

Few days ago I've read this interesting article in the Croatian edition of Cosmopolitan.

Columnist was writing about how people find ofensive calling fat people fat, but they have no problem with calling skinny people anorexic or disgusting. So, that really interested me, and it's really true. I found myself talking about skinny people saying 'God, this girl is so skinny, it's disgusting' or 'She's think like a twig, it looks like she's going to break down'. And when talking about someone who's overweight we use words like big boned, big sized.. something that is not rude. That is really not right. I have some friends who are really skinny, and not by choice. They eat like an elephant, and can't get fat! So, I was thinking about how many people get teased about being fat.. but how many people get teased about being skinny?

I agree with this, and will sometimes say it when people more or less insult my thinness.

So, I get "teased" about being being really slim, I guess. I put quotation marks around teased because it's never really in a mean spirit, and it's usually by friends. But yeah, everyone always says "God, you're such a twig" or "You should eat something, you almost look anorexic", or sometimes "Jeez, you're almost nonexistent you're so little!" I am not. 😛

Doesn't bother me at all, I know that they all think I'm super hot. ;D

Right! When I get too lazy, I don't shave. It's like: do I owe it to someone? Do I need to do all those annoying things just to please society?

I always say to myself, that in a few years, millions even, women will born without hair on their legs and armpits, the evolution will take care of it. Oh, why couldn't I be born a million years in the future??!

Agree with the first part! Of course, I also like to shave my legs just for myself. Cleanly shaven legs look and feel better.

As for the second part... Well, hair keeps you warm, and some of it protects you...

I hate shaving so a lot of the times, I don't do it. I don't ever do it to please others or because society says so. I do it because I think it feels nice to have smooth legs and it looks nice to have smooth armpits. But I don't actually care very much. So often, I just don't. Other people hate it but like Chosen Enemy said, I don't owe it to anyone to shave.

This is gonna sound really stupid, but...

Whenever I'm under the shower and think "should I just skip the shaving...?" I think to myself I might hook up that night or something, and then I would feel very bad about it. So in the end I never skip it. Just as with the makeup and everything else, it's just my way of always being prepared.

And that really sucks! We always have to be prepared, just "in case". They see you with the wrong kind of hair, and you're tossed.

In winter it's always easier. Nobody can really see if you don't shave. But of course there's the "just in case" aspect again....

See I don't have this "just in case" thing. I don't go out... I don't meet people... and even if I did, I'm not a "hook-up" kind of girl. The one time I did have that "Just in case" thing was at my last new years party. I knew one of my friends was probably going to pull my pants down so I shaved and when I pulled my pants down I got to say "I knew one of you was going to do that, so I made myself look pretty." That quote is now infamous in my friend group.

well see, I do go out, I do meet people, and it's not really my intention or anything, but when a cute guy wants to hook up, who am I to say no
So I just read this entire thread in about 20 minutes. What an amazing journey it was. Just for the record, it seems to me that those on this site who are prettiest tended to post a lot about how much they dislike themselves. So that's interesting.

For what it's worth, you folks are all of you basically attractive people. Not only that but you all have all these other people that are rooting for you which so many others lack. We all have partners in our mutual distaste of our own bodies. That's kind of special I think.

Also, I'm to skinny, have no muscles and have a pooch belly that I feel pushing up against my t-shirt right now and it's making me sad. I wish I looked more like Spike or Wesley... Also my hair is half grey already and I'm only 28! I am going to have to start dyeing it because everyone makes fun of me.

I also like that I'm a bit of a babyface and I think I like my face in general.... So I got that going for me.

My premature greys aren't that bad, but I'll probably start dying somewhere around... my early thirties. My mom started at 12. Don't feel bad
Oh and on the subject of premature greys... I remember I was watching Marley and Me with my (former) friend Kyle (who also has premature greys... worse than mine a little)... and it was the part where they find their first grey hairs. I turned to him and said "We'll never do that with our partners." And he said "Yeah, 'cause we found ours at like 11." *sigh*

My sis, who turned 32 this year, is totally grey already when she doesn't dye her hair. Myself? Not turning grey, just starting to go bald.

Why don't you post a picture mate? I'm the same age as you and I'm not greying, but my girlfriend says that she finds a healthy head of grey hair very attractive, citing Richard Gere as an example.

Look at it this way (it might help you): sometimes men with grey are very sexy.
Like, when I found not a long time ago that Matt La Blank (Joey from Friends), who now has a new movie or a series (don't know which, and don't care), and I haven't seen him since his spin off "Joey", I was very surprised to see that he has a bit of grey hair on the sides. And I never thought of him as sexy when I watched "Friends". But now that I've seen him a few years later and he's got party grey hair, I think he looks much much better and sexier! He doesn't look old, he just looks more handsome and good to look at.

I get my legs (and various other body parts) waxed instead of shaving them and I like to think that I don't do it because society pressures me to but because I think it's nicer. Thing is, if I (hypothetically) picked someone up, and found they hadn't shaved, or waxed, or whatever, I'd find it an instant turn-off, both in girls and guys. I don't find body hair attractive on others and I don't expect them to find it attractive on me, so I remove it. End of story.

ouch I tried waxing once. Maybe my skin really is too dry, maybe I'm just being a sissy, but it hurt like effing hell

Body hair is disgusting. If it's below the neck, I don't want to see it.

The thought of anybody getting private areas waxed makes me feel like I'm going to be sick . It's strange that I hear such opposites in women, some find hairy Wolverine style men a complete turn on while others prefer their men completely smooth, Riley style.

I don't want them completely smooth, but I like 'em trimmed.
I really hope I have my Mom's genes there. She's 46 and still no visible grey hairs 😀 And according to her, her Dad never really got grey hair either, so it is genetic.
My Dad, on the other hand, has been dying his hair for years. It's even more sad considering his step father is barely greying yet, over 70 but still mostly black hair, AND still full hair. But sadly that's not in our gene pool.

I don't know about men with grey hair...they just give me the feeling I have daddy issues.

There are a few things I'd like to about myself, if the opportunity came by, but I'm content enough with my image. I suppose I'm just average, could be better, could be worse. Although I do regret ever messing about with hair dye. When I look at old pictures I miss my natural colour. I tried to get my hair a little lighter and I've only realized how much better it looked before.

I used to be disgusted by hairy men but lately, I kind of started liking all men. A friend of mine told me once "Hey, there is a pattern, in most cases, you fall for hairy brown-hair guys with a lot of unbrushed head hair!".
Which is kind of true actually. I think more and more than hairy men have a sort of...animal magnetism. I have this teacher at school, quite young, not very tall, with big glasses and a lot of hair (on his head, and his shirts are always a bit open so you get to see his torso forest. He also has a small beard). He's like very hairy, but he has an incredible success amongst student because of that animal magnetism. I know a guy who made a little jalousy crisis because "he wanted to have some animal magnetism too". Just to annoy him I didn't say he already had animal magnetism, but he is also a bit hairy.

I think I love hairy men.

(And I giggle like a crazy whenever I write 'hairy men', don't know why :tongue3🙂

Don't like them too hairy tough.

That's too Fenrirgreybacky for me, for instance.

"torso forest", I like that. I shall put it on my favourite expressions shelf, right next to "facial furniture".

I'm not saying it doesn't hurt... the first time is always horrible, but you get used to it after a while. And the effect is totally worth it, you don't have to do anything for 4 weeks and you get NO prickly regrowth. When I still lived in London, I had the most awesome Asian lady, when she did it it didn't hurt at all.

NO prickly regrowth for 4 weeks?! That might just be worth the pain

I couldn't do that. I don't deal well with pain. When I need to scratch my back, afterwards it hurts like hell, like I've been hit by a giraffe. And I do it very gentley.

That's why I cannot get a tattoo, because I know I wouldn't be able to bear the pain. And I've been wanting a tattoo since the age of 12.

Actually, take it from someone who are a big sissy when it comes to pain: it doesn't hurt that much. But then again, I guess it depends on where you want it. 🙂

I want it on my ankle (a Chinese letter), and I read somewhere that it's one of the more painful spots.

Will you come with me and hold my hand? I'm also have needle fear.
Seriously, when I need to get a shut or give blood sample, I start yelling before the needle even touches me. And they already know me by that. So once a new nurse came to take my blood (no, she wasn't a vampire!) and I paniced before she even stabbed (yes, stabbed!) me, so the other nurse, who already knew I always make a scene when I come to be stabbed, told her: "it's okay, she's always like that" (me). And I always almost faint every time, because of the fear. And yeah, it hurts me, it's not just the sight of a needle ready to stab me. So I knew a tattoo would be hell for me.
