I spent quite a bit of the episode wondering if you could get insurance cover for Acts of Doctor - property damage does follow the Doctor around.
And then the subject was brought up in the programme itself!

Well, that was great fun...a classic old school type of adventure. Which is hardly surprising, as it was based on a Doctor Who Magazine comic from the 80s. I didn't know the original story but as it was written by Pat Mills and drawn by Dave Gibson (a couple of my comics heroes from my old 2000AD days) I'm going to assume it was a good one. Everyone seemed to be having altogether too much fun in this ep, especially David and Catherine. I know that some will be annoyed by the diversity and wokeness on show tonight but I welcome it...it certainly didn't get in the way of a cracking hour of TV. 👍👍👍

The meep's reveal shocked me but looking back it was quite obvious from his exaggerated innocent mannerisms.

I liked that Donna has the same core personality but she's also got new priorities as a mother and the things she learned while traveling with The Doctor still influenced her, like when one of the Wrarth Warriors was dying Donna held them and it reminded me of how she was compassionate towards a dying Ood in series 4. Likewise it's cool that The Doctor is different despite having the same face because he has the memories of the other Doctors that have existed since he last had that face- he can now say he loves Donna 😄
I knew Meep was going to be the villain going into it but I still thought it was cool to see the design switch to evil.
There were a lot of good comedic moments.
So overall I'm happy with it even though there was some unnecessarily woke lines near the end.

Loved it! No surprise really I mean Tennant makes a great Doc paired with Donna of course. I loved that she was a Mum and they bought in the diversity that is around in life more so now (as in accepted by many and out). The wheelchair was epic! I knew she would remember but was not completely sure it was going to be in that episode and I loved the way they did that. Overall.... yeah loved it.

I did watch it again.
There seem to be quite a few hints that there is something wrong with the Meep. More obvious on a second watch perhaps.

Dipped back in for the first time since the end of Capaldi & Moffat. Really nice to have it on iPlayer in UHD. David Tennant back in the role was cool, can't believe it's been 15 years!
Sadly not too impressed by the rest of it. It's always been a silly programme but enjoyable if you can sell it. The plot, dialogue and effects here just kept me thinking how stupid it all was.
Could be in just old and cynical now. Might give the others a try as well but can't say I'm excited.

Was it the ending? It was kind of a stretch but RTD also wrapped up series 3 by having the Doctor be healed through people all over the world saying his name and believing in him and I did love that ending lol.

I felt similarly. It's not just you! It was very silly and stupid, even by RTD standards. Reminds me of the Slitheen (fart monsters) from Season 1. I don't think anyone would've been excited if Tennant and Tate weren't there.

@Bop a lot of it just felt jarring. The meep felt like a merchandise insert. A lot of the dialogue seemed almost deadpoolesque breaking the 4th wall to deliver a message to the audience. Then all the resolutions just happened because that's what they wanted to happen.
Certainly the magic screwdriver or fast talking nonsense resolution isn't a new phenomenon in Dr Who but you really do notice it more when the rest isn't drawing you in.
The tone was really odd as well. At no stage did it feel like anything was at stake and then once the countdown was shut off the damage already done reversed automatically for no obvious reason.

Well the Meep is basically E.T. meets Ewoks but in CGI.

I can see where you get at, but I found it a return to form. It felt like it was Doctor Who again. There was some messaging in it, but it felt like the beginning of a story. I love the question of "Why this face again?" And I'm sure it will bleed into the next specials.

It felt like the priority was reintroducing everyone and dealing with the metacrisis issue and the storyline with Meep was just used to help all of that along so I can see what you mean but I've never read the Star Beast comic so maybe everything that happened with Meep was a faithful adaptation of that story.
I think the next episode should be better because it doesn't have anything specific to achieve unlike this first one.
It's really grating how they keep trying to tell us Jodie's doctor was awesome- if it were true it wouldn't have to be said in every story 🙁

I thought it was bollocks I'm afraid.
Constant mention of the daughter being trans in the most ham fisted and unnatural way. When you compare how well Viktor's transition was handled in Umbrella Academy season 3 to this, f*ck me this was amateurish. Only the Doctor Donna can save them because the Doctor is useless in his own 60th year. Yeah great way to celebrate your hero. Can you imagine someone doing a story where the whole point of it is that Superman or Buffy has to give their powers to someone else because they are useless with them. They do stories like that in reverse where someone else gets them and abuses them reminding you why they are heroes beyond their powers! The poor Doctor has such ideologically driven tits who have 0 respect for the original they leech off of he is the only hero to get that story the other way.
Also sorry but Yasmin Finney is sooooo wooden. I mean really she's worse than Yaz. Above all else though it was boring and unoriginal and bland.
Same generic shit plot as a dozen RTD era stories. Ancient beast that is the last of its kind that threatens the earth in some stupid plan (Unquiet Dead, Sound of Drums, Fires of Pompei, The Shakespear Code, Dalek.) Cute, unthreatening annoying little alien that turns out to be evil (Cassandra, Pting, Adipose) badguy who is on the run from the intergalactic police (Smith and Jones.)
Also it was padded and slow. No action scenes until about 30 mins in, tedious soap opera shit, an absurd reason as to how Donna gave up her money, and about five minutes added on at the end. Also as someone who didn't like Donna I cannot STAND seeing her be made out to be his all time best friend, his all time best companion.
Also the wheel chair girl was a bit wooden. She wasn't replacing Osgood to be fair so I'm not even pissed about that, but she was just kind of meh. She had weapons in her wheelchair and there was even a bit where she said we all have them.
So RTD has made out that the only reason you could be trans is if you are a weird alien/human hybrid and wheelchair people are all packing heat? A hamfisted attempt to say "aren't minorities cool and badass." That comes over as offensive.
I know Russell thinks he owned the Gammons with this remark, but all I see is a guy who cannot write women or minorities. He doesn't see them as people who can go on adventures and be fully rounded individuals like say Willow and Tara or Buffy or Xena and Gabrielle. He needs to write them as being amazing at everything, and constantly insult the white male characters around them, and undermine them and go on about how amazing it is being a woman or trans which sums up their entire personality.
It reminds me of a parody of female characters, like in Married with Children, a comedy, when Marcy and Peg who are meant to be awful go on about how amazing they are just for being women, even after ruining Al's holiday.

Also RTD reminds me of Brian in this bit from Family Guy, when Brian is so terrified of looking racist around his black girlfriend, he overcompensates and goes on about how he prefers black people to white people etc.
Only good thing is that its viewers were quite pathetic at barely over 5 million so here's hoping the show might finally be out of the Fitzroy's hands. It needs a rest though. Here's also hoping the myth of RTD being a genius finally dies down. How that ever happened is deeply depressing.

It will still be on for a few years because they already have so much in the can, there's the next two specials, Christmas Special, Ncuti's first season which will air 2024, then the Christmas Special 2024. They're currently shooting Ncuti's second season which will air in 2025.
But the con with filming so much in advance is that RTD doesn't have a chance to change anything that comes out through the show because it's already been done. That is if he would even want to change anything.
