Does anyone NOT have a smartphone?

Sure, they're useful but I find having a smartphone to be quite the annoyance at times, being always available and connected to your accounts. They even sync with each other and know our schedules better than we do. It's like a parent constantly reminding you of stuff that needs done.

Does anyone NOT have a smartphone? How is life? Tranquil? 😛

And has anyone ever seriously considered ditching smartphones altogether? I miss playing Snake on my old Nokia.
 
I don't have one just don't think their needed and are a waste of money. Mum has one and it causes her no end of grief. Besides, my phone goes to a lower rating school so I guess just isn't that smart😀
 
I really don't need one - the one I have was a gift. I think if you have a tablet you don't need a smart phone and vice versa.

The only person who I know that doesn't have one is my Dad, and he is very proud that he doesn't have one.

Overall, I don't need it and it really is a distraction with all the social media and apps you have available constantly; but the one thing I really like about it is the gps and maps feature. It's really nice to have if you get lost or want to look up stores near by...that type of thing.

Honesty time: I hate how much I use my smartphone and definitely want to get rid of it. It's pretty handy when you have a kid and are arranging meet ups on whatsapp in a group message, helping calm a screaming, tantruming toddler on the bus with some In the Night Garden so easily at hand. But the disconnect of sitting with friends and family and everyone's on their phones is kinda depressing. I keep thinking about how toddlers and kids these days must think everyone has a smart phone as an extension of their actual hand.
 
The only person I know who doesn't have one is my Dad. He still has an old flip phone!

I couldn't do without but I must admit I was shocked to find out my five year old niece has had an iPhone for a while. She's five. FIVE! She doesn't have a simcard in the phone, she uses it for games, but still she's five years old. I don't think I'd personally give my child a phone that young. 🙄
 
I like my smartphone because it has kindle on it and I can read a book at work while pretending to look at work stuff. I use my second smart phone simply as an alarm clock, because it's louder than my other phone. I could live without either of them, but I really don't want too 🙂

I have bought her like a million toy phones to end the fascination with mines (obviously completely unsuccessful in my attempts). Sometimes the only way to get five minutes of safe play to wash some dishes is to let her use the forward facing camera to record herself making silly faces. So yeah, she borrows mine 😀

The amount of times I have u-turned on all the "I would never let my child..." statements I used to make is probably in the hundreds, lawl. Seriously, taking shortcuts now and then as a parent is the only way to stay sane. I'd be dead otherwise with W taking snapchats of my corpse and the dog photobombing in the background. 😎
 
I'm not gonna lie, I like my smart phone, but I also need it, too, it's not a fashion accessory for me. I need to be able to receive emails from work while I'm at work - I work in different stores, travelling from one to the next every day, so if new plans come in, I need to be able to see it and confirm I've seen it and read them. The only tablet I have is a Kindle, which, unless there's free wifi - which isn't always possible in the stores I work in - I don't have internet access on it.

I don't always agree with giving kids phones at all. Letting a kid entertain themselves or to keep them calm with your phone? No problem. Giving a child under 10 their own smart phone? Not necessary. A normal dumb-down phone I could agree with, the things that we see going on these days, but they don't need a smart phone. Catch pokemon on mom and dad's phone, lol.
 
My parents are the only one I know that don't have a smartphone these days.
Dad doesn't even have a mobile phone at all.

Personally I think it's a fun and extremely useful gadget and I have a bunch of them.
Can actually see 6 smartphones and 1 tablet laying here in front of me. lol
Only two of them and the tablet are active though...

I think that you just have to set up boundaries so constant notifications doesn't take over your life.
Just turn them off. Don't check emails automatically so they pop-up every know and then. Check them yourself when you feel like etc.

Can be easier said than done sometimes I guess.
I think it's too easy to blame new technology for all sort of problems when the actually problem are, as always, the people using or misusing the technology.

Don't have one, and I think it spares me many headaches given what others put up with. But about everyone else I know, including kids, have one. Heck, when I worked with the homeless, even many of them had one!
 
I don't have one because everything I want to stay connected to is on my laptop. I am not on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest or any of the other sites that waste a lot of time because I already have my time consumed by a lot of the sites on my laptop (and BB is the one I spend the most time on). There is a merger coming up between YouTube, Twitter and Facebook to be called YouTwitFace and it will be the world's first anti-social network. I might join that.
 
I got one several months ago because it's so much cheaper than my dumb phone service was with SO much more everything. It would have been ridiculous not to. It costs about half what my dumb phone was charging me a month
 
I was given a smart phone for Christmas in 2014 (it was a package deal. Everyone in the family got one on our joint AT&T account) I carried it for about 14 months ("Oh, just wait. Once you get used to it, you'll wonder how you ever got along without it") hated every minute of it, then went back to a simple flip phone. I never used any of those "wonderful" options, and I didn't like the size. I don't text, listen to music, check my email, watch movies, or read ebooks on my phone, and the physical size of the phone was both inconvenient and annoying.
 
I don't. The only thing I'm interested in doing when I'm out is the odd text and phone call. All the time I see friends and their attention will be on something else, whether it's FB, Twitter, Pokémon Go, SnapChat... it's just sad to me (though I realise that isn't the phone's fault) . I'm just on that stuff enough at home. I've never felt this need to be connected to everyone and everything all the time, it just sounds like a nightmare to me.

Plus I constantly hear them complaining about something going wrong with them, whether it be technical or a cracked screen. I'll keep my cheap, reliable, grandpa phone.
 
Its well known how much I hate my Iphone. It was a gift after my last phone failed. I honestly would have been happier with a $69 off plan phone. I knew it would not be a good thing for me - and it turned out worse than I thought! I HAVE been looking for button phones, but I cant find any that will go on my plan.

I have had the iphone about 2 years now, and still have huge trouble navigating it. I keep getting told off when I say I want one with buttons. Like that is the most retarded idea anyone in my family has ever heard. I used to complain, that no one would respond to my messages, then they would get upset later that I hadnt "asked for help". Turns out I had, but no one had imessage turned on, cos all the tech heads had no idea bout it... I kept on about blue and green messages and they drugged me and put me in a mental hospital.

The data charges, since I was on it more - which I knew was inevitable considering I was mostly housebound/hospitalised. I asked for help to get the wifi connected, I couldnt read the paperwork. Months and months of $300+ data charges, before I got it sorted. And now I hear they are planning on making internet access a human right... bastards. Can I have my thousands of dollars and sanity back?

I hate hate hate the thing so much, and it makes me anxious just to touch it - my whole body tenses in an extremely painful way - my guess is memory of pain. I have a few accounts I can only access from the iphone, I tend to be more crazy on them and look forward to getting rid of a "phone" altogether. I doubly hate that they can find your location, link accounts and turn on cameras (snapchat I am looking at you - deleted so fast!!)
 
Do I ever! A Smartphone, jeez my phone is so smart, it has managed to keep itself hidden from me for a couple of months now. Why do I want to find it? To find out what the sodding number of it is.
I must admit I do prefer the ones I had as a child, if I had one of them now I'm sure I would never use it while driving, it's hard to drive and hold a baked bean can to your ear.
Before that people used drums which was a massive increase on the effectiveness of them crap smoke messages.
