Does Faith Need Some Love?

Since it seems that everybody in the Buffy comics is having 'relationships', angst-y love issues or soon-to-be tense love triangles what about Faith.

Should she have some romance thrown her way? Does she need any of that mushy stuff? Should she stay as she is or try to date somebody? If so then who?

I think the 'whatever-demon's name is' takes control of the two vampers and Faith has to come in and save the day. In so doing the lust for the vamper line was broken (as the demon was defeated) and Buffy realizes this whole time that she was really in love with Faith. However, upon Willow hearing this, since she and Faith had sex in the car ride* back from LA in season 7, Willow becomes jealous that Buffy and Faith are together as Willow dumped the snake lady to make a play for Faith. Willow goes all black and dark-eyed again and attacks both the slayers. It's hand to hand combat, greco-roman style wrestling and oh crap! they all fall into mud! that wont stop them no!

So to answer your question does Faith need some loving.. no. Let her be an example.


*as Faith managed to change clothes from the two hour drive from LA to Sunnydale.. so I would assume she undressed in the car and one thing led to another

If it's not with Buffy, then no Faith doesn't need a romantic love interest. Maybe a few one night stands, cause thats the Faith I like. lol. I'd say as long as she's not with a vampire. As for the Faith/Willow thing, I assume they pulled over and bought some clothes and probably changed then. But Faith was fine changing in the car for Wes so Im sure she would do it in front of Willow. Maybe that's why Willow was being nice to Faith, she liked what she saw. lol. But no I don't want them together in the comics.

I mean, there are people who don't fall in love, people who don't seek love nor a relationship - and that's fine. Faith's, like, 30 ( she's older than Buffy ) and she's never really been in a real, long-term relationship so maybe she's just one of those people. Nothing wrong with that. But I don't know, maybe she should...try? Give it a shot?

Personally, I'd like to see that 'cause sex humanizes. It's a sphere of life in which those characters get to not be larger than life superheroes...well, OK, unless they literally destroy buildings with their lovemaking, or enter the low orbit and give life to new universes or have sex to perform occult rituals or mate with 15 meter long lady snake demons or...yeah, you still get the point, right?

As to the who? I think that it should be a new character and certainly not Buffy's ex. Faith's a co-lead in her own comic now, not Buffy's evil twin anymore - it should be her and only her story, one that's disconnected from Buffy's life.

I think that Faith actually having an honest to God love affair, all sloppy sweet and disgustingly romantic, has the potential for a great story arc. I would only specify that, whoever the lucky person is, it's real, it's long lasting, and neither Faith nor her partner turns evil, leaves town, or dies prematurely.

She needs a relationship with Angel, he is the one who helped her get on the road to redemption in the first place.
But, if Angel grew to truly love her as much as he loves Buffy, sex would be out of the equation and Faith is the "have-sex-on-the-first-date-and-not-much-else" type of person when it comes to dating, so it might not work.

Oh gosh, I hope that doesn't happen. Can we have just one dam character in the whole wide universe that doesn't need sex or relationships in order to be a fully fleshed out 3D character.

Don't get me wrong, I ship the shit out of Fuffy, but Faith does NOT need that stuff to make her interesting. It'd be nice to see her be in a healthy relationship, since we already know she has trust issues and what not, and for the most part had bad experiences with sex, but didn't she already have that with Wood? I'd love for Faith to just be fine with being single, no longer because she has trust problems and what not, but because she decides that she'd rather be single. I feel like having Faith have a regular, mushy, lovey dovey, love affair would just be far fetched, out of character, and naive. After all she's been through, I just really don't want to see a "perfect" love story, and likely we'd end up with a tragedy like we always do with Buffy, same problem, different slayers. Pretty much anyone that she'd date would cause old problems to resurface, and I don't want Faith to just become a ball of mush either. So you end up with a story that is either redundant, or really cheesy. Just keep the Faith we all love that does the occasional one night stand, and that could not give one f*** in the world about having a boyfriend.

But again, if we're going to get a love story, just let it be with Buffy. In my head it's the only plausible option for something believable, because of the history, and the understanding of exactly what the relationship would be. But again, I simply can't picture any domestic cheesy love stuff, that's just not Faith.

Out with all the interminable vampire-love crap and get something fresh and interesting because what's happening in the comics is neither of these things- the plot stuff is another matter and is really the only reason I'm still buying Buffy S10.

Also I have noticed that there already is fan-pandering to an embarrassing degree this season- Xander and Spike's and their half-naked pillow fight, Harmony's completely out-of-nowhere wish for Buffy to have both Angel and Spike (why would she even care?), the love-y, dove-y Buffy mindwalk so she can really see that Spike loves her... and on it goes.
What you're describing wouldn't actually be too far removed from what we've already had, it would just involve different characters.

Still I'm very much doubtful at this point that Buffy and Faith are ever going to happen, not even in a realistic 'their friends and have kickass adventures together' kind of way, which is a shame.

As for them hooking up and being a couple...why not? They have a hell of a lot in common: self-esteem issues, tons of insecurities, feeling that their nothing without their powers, a fall to the murderous dark side only to come back by collapsing sobbing into the arms of some guy who refuses to give up on them....
Plus they were very nice to each other in A&F S9. The symmetry of their journeys might make them becoming a couple seem natural, or at the very least as natural as Buffy/Spike or Xander/Dawn.

I really do, and I'm also conflicted. I'd like to see Faith get closer to someone, to be happier ans show a softer side...but also I don't have enough faith (heh) in any of the current writers to think that they wouldn't either balls it up royally or make it a really dull journey.

Like Buffy/Xander, it's kinda...incest-y. I honestly think that Angel is the one guy in the world Faith wouldn't have lusty feelings about, he's her bro.

I think overall I'm content to see Faith gain another close friendship rather than some unconvincing romance (other than Buffy there is nobody I could believably see getting past her defences) that the writers for some reason decide to do.
I'm hoping that the upcoming issues concentrating on Faith and Fred will mean that Faith gains another friend she have fun with- I think she's earned it. 🙂

I don't know about need. But romance should only become part of her story if she wants it. Otherwise I'd say pass. Since love/romance is NOT a positive thing in this verse.

One thing I appreciate about Faith is the fact that her character is not defined by guys/girls she sleeps with. By giving Faith actual stories/storylines she has managed to mature and grow up into a terrific adult (and stay that way), unlike that blonde chick. They already have a slayer whose only worth to the story is to be a vagina to plunder for whichever guy/demon/girl is flavor of the current Season. I rather not see another one reduced to that. Come on there has to be at least a slayer who does stuff (besides people/demons).

If at this point in her life there are more important things she wants to do then I'd say good for her.

She doesn't 'need' a relationship. I'm tired of all of these grown-up, functional, healthy characters shoved into a relationship because they 'need' it to be a whole person, or to be a 'real' person, or a character people can identify with.

What about those of us who don't want a relationship? Ace or demi people have no one to 'identify' with because those in control decide that the only way a character can be 'real' is when they're in a committed relationship.

I like the fact that there's no love interest on the cards for Faith, that she's not looking for a relationship or moaning about the fact that she's forever alone. That right there is 'real' to me, and I hope that that remains the status quo for the foreseeable future.

Looks to be as if Faith and Fred are striking up a friendship.

And if you read the latest issue "Those Who Can't Teach Teach Gym" you can already tell Faith isn't gonna stay celibate for long, unless she has matured past the whole sex first thing and wants a real relationship first. Regardless, Faith and the detective buddy of Angel's were definitely flirting. Faith's landlady even thought they were a freaking couple. Come on.

I'm OK with it though. Faith needs someone in her life who isn't Angel. She's got Fred in the friendship department, now she needs a new romantic interest. Just hope they don't muck it up.

Does she need it? No. Does anyone need a love interest? If need is the basis of surviving, then no, no one really needs a romantic partner. It's all about what we want out of life. Close friends and family are great, and for some people might be all the need and want. But for others they might want something more, like romance, and sex or a family of their own. I'm fairly confident Faith wants sex, not sure if she wants the other stuff though. I think that she could have a romantic love interest and not make it about something that she needs in order to make her feel complete as a person. Some times you just want some there that you can be physical with in ways that you can't with friends. Especially if her only friends are Fred and Angel. lol

Haha it came across a little stronger than I intended. I'm not saying Faith needs a romantic interest per se, she's already got a hell of a support system in Angel, but I think it would be a bit healthier. She's been focused on work for quite a while and it would be healthier for her to have someone to come home to and snuggle up with. Honestly it's a bit difficult to explain, but I think Faith's earned it. Certainly at this point her relationships would be more stable than the Buffster's ever were.

That, and I wanna see how Faith handles "being in a relationship" for once. 😉 Now that it's probably gonna happen soon...

Just got a quick mental flash of Faith changing her status to In a Relationship and people like Buffy, Xander, and Angel freaking out.
