Does Faith Need Some Love?

And if you read the latest issue "Those Who Can't Teach Teach Gym" you can already tell Faith isn't gonna stay celibate for long, unless she has matured past the whole sex first thing and wants a real relationship first. Regardless, Faith and the detective buddy of Angel's were definitely flirting. Faith's landlady even thought they were a freaking couple. Come on.

From what I read Fred seemed more invested in detective guy than Faith did. When she said 'oh, is he the cute one' about who they were doing favors for and Faith pointedly says 'that's got nothing to do with it'. I doubt Faith is actively interested in dating the guy, or maybe she's in denial or something.

He did help her move in so maybe they are headed in that direction- I don't really have a problem with it, as long as they don't rush things. The writers seem to have the balance about right.
Although I was half-rooting for Faith and that slayer she met in South America- the one she opened up to about her past? 😉

I do remember when they first met in the bar Faith acted like Brandt was trying to hit on her even though he was more trying to compliment her on her new rep as slayer of London/Magic Town. I thought that was very defensive- very Faith-like to act like that around a guy.

That's my issue with "today's" thinking. Why does Faith need a romantic interest. Why does she need more than Angel and Fred. Are having close friends, almost family, not enough for someone. Does someone really need more than that. If I have one friend that I can really count on and I'm satisfied with that, do I really need more. Sure, if Faith expressed that she wants a boyfriend, a girlfriend, or more friends, then it's a different story. Because she wants it, but does she really need it. No, she doesn't.

I agree. Faith has shown to want friends/people who accept her and care about her- but that never really included romance of any sort.
I mean she went off into the sunset with 'perfect' Robin Wood who was basically her Riley- the normal, boring vamp-fighter boyfriend and yet it failed within 18 months.
Until we know WHY it failed with Wood I'm not convinced that Faith would get involved in new romance with somebody she hardly knows. Maybe a flirty hookup could be fun though. 🙂

Honestly I do think the Faith-Brandt thing will go somewhere. Fred's mention of him seemed like a way for Faith to deny anything going on between them (like with the landlady) before the writers take it in a different direction.

Whatever happens I'm sure it'll be interesting.

but I think it would be a bit healthier. She's been focused on work for quite a while and it would be healthier for her to have someone to come home to and snuggle up with.

So...I'm not healthy, mentally, because I don't want a relationship? That's a bit hurtful, just FYI, that you seem be saying that the only way a person can be mentally healthy is if they want a sexual or romantic relationship.

I'm not saying it's wrong for Faith to want a relationship, but alluding that there's something not right with her if she doesn't have or want a relationship is definitely the wrong way to go.

Like I said before, I'm so happy that Faith is happy being single. I'm not against her getting into a relationship, but I don't want her forced into a relationship that doesn't work or has no real chemistry just because people think that's the 'norm'.

There's nothing forceful about it -- they were just lightly flirting, but there's potential between the two which could lead to something more. And I'm not saying Faith isn't happy being single and that she's not stable at this point -- but I think she could use someone special in her life.

Mind you, I am not unsatisfied with how things are going -- rather, it's my belief that Faith has earned a little personal happiness of her own. If she's into it, that's awesome. If not, that's totally cool, Faith. Love you anyway.

If this is what you believe, fine, I'll accept that. But what I quoted from you before wasn't what you said here. You said it would be HEALTHIER for Faith to be in a relationship. That's what I took issue with.

There is so little representation for Ace and demi people in the media that when people allude that it's unhealthy for someone to not want to be in a relationship or not want sex, it's hurtful and it makes people think they're not normal.

You put me on the spot, what else could I say?! 😉

In all seriousness, there's nothing wrong with choosing to remain unattached to anyone. On the subject of Faith, she has matured enough to where she doesn't have to rely on Angel so much for emotional support. But I think Faith could use someone in a way where I'm not talking about mental/emotional health (sorry it sounded the way it did, I can be careless with words). She could use someone that'll give her support in a way Angel or a father figure or even a really good friend can't.

Hope it makes sense -- I really don't know how else to word it, apologies for any previous offense. Just think it'd be nice for Faith is all.

Haha it came across a little stronger than I intended. I'm not saying Faith needs a romantic interest per se, she's already got a hell of a support system in Angel, but I think it would be a bit healthier. She's been focused on work for quite a while and it would be healthier for her to have someone to come home to and snuggle up with. Honestly it's a bit difficult to explain, but I think Faith's earned it. Certainly at this point her relationships would be more stable than the Buffster's ever were.

That, and I wanna see how Faith handles "being in a relationship" for once. 😉 Now that it's probably gonna happen soon...

Just got a quick mental flash of Faith changing her status to In a Relationship and people like Buffy, Xander, and Angel freaking out.

My problem is the distinction between want and need. If Faith wants something, than sure, it's fine. But I really don't get that talk that Faith could use someone, or she needs someone. For all we know Faith might be aromantic and not into romantic relationship, I don't think it's ever been stated on the show. It might just be a poor choice of vocabulary, but I just can't say I agree with someone earning a romantic partner, or that a romantic partner gives a sort of happiness and support that no one else can give (that might be true depending on sexuality, but it certainly isn't true for everyone). Could the story of Faith in a relationship be interesting? Sure, I guess. But it's been done to death and it's nice for once to see a character that handles herself well without a bf or a gf. Visibility is super important, and usually this is not the type of things they show in the media. And for all those people out there who are single by choice, ace, demi, aromantic, there is literally no characters representing them. It's nice having a character that is happy with just being with herself. Again, not that I'm against Faith dating if that's what she wants, but so far she hasn't really expressed that want (or maybe she has? I dunno I don't read the comics).

To solve her problems? No Faith doesn't need to be in a relationship, that is just a short term or narrow minded answer. Its a bit like when someone suggests that a criminal should spend sometime in the Army. The two are completely separate. Would she like to be in a relationship? Maybe deep down, but she has never really expressed that, and it doesn't strike me as being high on her list of priorities. If it happens great, if it doesn't its not the end of the world I am guessing would be her view on it.
