Question Dollhouse or Firefly?

Before joining BB I wasn't really aware of any other shows by Joss Whedon other than Buffy and Angel. So after reading all about how great Dollhouse and Firefly both are, i've decided to go ahead and treat myself by buying a boxset.

But the problem is I can only afford one at the moment and as they're both pretty similarly priced I thought i'd turn to the people who know a lot more about it (i don't know much about either show, just the basic premises) to battle it out about which one is worth buying first! (Just so you know, I will definitely end up buying the losing show at some point, but it won't be for a while - money's tight!)

So what do you think? Dollhouse or Firefly and why?

Firefly! 😀 Basically, you'll get the whole show in one. But if you went with Dollhouse you'd have to wait for season 2 to come out on DVD which won't be for a while.

Firefly is really great though. Only 14 episodes, yet it's among the greatest sci-fi shows of all time. I think that speaks for itself. The characters are what really make the show.
 
Firefly. I do love both shows, but Firefly is far and above the better show, IMO.

I've just finished a rewatch of Firefly and I'd forgotten how much I loved it. Great characters, great stories... lots to love.
 
I love Firefly, but kinda feel "meh"-like feelings for Dollhouse. It's a brilliant show, great dialouge, character developments, acting, but I'm not in love with the plot and I have a very hard time getting over the character's bad sides to enjoy the story. They're practically all self-righteous pimps and/or victims, who evolve too slowly for my taste. So choose Firefly now, which is in many ways a lighter more fun show, and wait for season 2 of Dollhouse to be out on DVD so you can watch both seasons at once.
 
Decisions, decisions, decisions. To buy Dollhouse or Firefly?
Should you buy Firefly first, then you'll probably buy the film of it, Serenity, second. That would be my choice, but I am biased. As Dollhouse never made it to the screens here.
There are a few factors to take into consideration though.
Which series is talked about the most here?
Are the characters from which show talked about the most?
Which DVD offers the best after show comments?
For me you can't go past Serenity, as the outtake of Mal telling miss KayWinnit Lee Frye to put a hood ornament of the sweet baby jesus up front was the best ever.
Yep, get Firefly first, then get the film Serenity, then Dollhouse. Maybe another DVD player - cleaner, after that.
 
Choose Firefly.

In my opinion, DH didn't really get good until the second season, which isn't out on DVD yet.

Firefly is just a extraordinary show. You'll love it. It's definitely worth the money. Make sure you watch 'Serenity' (the movie "conclusion") AFTER the show, though.

Be sure to tell us what you think as you watch!
 
I'd say Firefly, exactly as JtVS said Dollhouse doesn't really get going till Season 2.

You'll get more of a completed feeling with Season 1 of Firefly and the movie Serenity! (although you'll still want more)
 
I think the obvious one is Firefly, Dh doesn't start getting REALLY good until season2 which isn't out yet, plus Firefly only has one season.
So yeah Firefly first. 🙂
 
Wow, I came to this thread with the intention to argue Firefly's cause and was shocked to see everyone else already had. LOL I actually just got Firefly myself, and I have to say I am so pissed that we never got to see more of this show. It is seriously fantastic... You'll see!

Not sure if this will matter for your choice, but there's a few Firefly comics too. So it's season+movie+comics.
 
Well, we can all tell which one you're going to buy. Dollhouse, obviously. =P

You know that Mythbusters proved that "hitting the ground running" results in a rocky, unbalanced start followed by stumbling and a severe lack of coordination (or in a running mechanical device like a car or bicycle -- a stall) all of which give a worse result than if it just started properly.

For Firefly, an accurate description.
I still agree with the network's decision on air order though.
Sacrilege, I know. It was really all the preempting and lengthy intervals between airings that did it in.

But to answer the question, yeah, Firefly. Dushku fan as I am notwithstanding. It does seem to have the majority vote.
 
Firefly for me(I know, I know, you're all shocked, lol). Dollhouse is a high concept idea that the show never quite lives up to. Firefly, on the other hand, is pretty much perfection imo.

What Skytte said. Plus there's some short stories being published soon (written by writers from the show) so Firefly hasn't totally ended yet. And there's some more comics to come.
 
Firefly was my introduction to Whedon and I loved every second of it.

I would like to hear someone argue that Firefly isn't the way to go.


Heck, I'd recommend get Firefly, then Serenity, then Dr. Horrible, and then only if you're just... really really bored and have money burning a hole in your pocket pick up DH.
 
Oh! How could we all forget to mention Dr. Horrible?

If you haven't checked out Dr. Horrible yet, it's only 40 minutes or so and you can watch it for free online.

Yes, Beaumonde is right. If you live in America just go to hulu.com and type in Dr. Horrible. It's a free Whedon injection.
