Re-watch discussion
episode 3 & 4
"Stage Fright" (1) and "Gray Hour" (2)
Discussion 1:
If I had come across the opening of this episode on TV I would have changed the channel. It's the kind of "super star" show you'd expect to see on the Bold and the Beautiful, meaning it just looks ridiculous to me. But it's Dollhouse so I'll plod on 😉
I'm loving Topher already, as well as Adelle, she's gorgeous and brilliant and more reasonable than Mr. Dominic.
I like seeing Boyd and Dr. Saunders interact even if it's a small thing and Topher joking about them disapproving of everything and having "scowly babies" together. I probably wouldn't have been as enthralled if I hadn't already seen the show though. A lot in Dollhouse seem to be built on these tiny, utterly neglectable moments, that you may not even catch onto unless you watch carefully or faithfully.
Enver, heart him! I really like him as Lubov. He makes him very likeable though I don't understand how the Dollhouse can have a doll who is, even as a fringe member, part of the Russian mafia. Cause let's face it, those aren't the kind of guys that just let you in their club... that takes time, bad deeds and trust being slowly built.
Speaking of Lubov. I know that the party scene where he meets Paul was originally in the pilot and I can see why. I think their talk about the Dollhouse is great and very natural. In this episode it seems kind of strangely squeezed in. But I'll take it. It has one of my favorite Dollhouse lines that I think about whenever something bad happens, which is Lubov's "Yeah, people are mostly crap."
Fantastic reveal of Victor as a Doll!
Also, I know this is doubly true for later fight scenes, but Paul is a superhero. Seriously, when that guy fights...
I like Eliza's voice! I love the little song she sings too, I have it on my iPod but I really do like her voice. I know I've seen that some don't, and I'm not saying that she's a singer on par with Rayna, but she has a perfectly fine singing voice (certainly better than mine 😉)
Oh my, Eliza. What happened to my shapely Slayer? I cringed during the costume change scene because she's just too skinny for my taste, it really doesn't look healthy at this point. :/
I really don't like Rayna's 'poor me' schtick but I love the way Echo handles it. (even if it's a bit cheesy at the end with the 'I wanna live, I wanna live') I love when she smacks her down with a chair, because at that point, who could've deserved it more? And that she goes off book and 'gets the job done'. Go Echo!
My favorite part of the episode is the ending and what is hinted at in the beginning (when Echo helps a dizzy Sierra and over her shoulder sees a Dollhouse employee watching attentively as well as Hern commenting on not wanting Echo to rub off on Sierra, though while both are printed) which is Sierra, with a smile, making her way towards Echo and Echo, noticing Hern's gaze, discreetly shakes her head - clearly aware that they are not allowed to be friends.
Every episode has a little hint like that. That Echo is more aware than the others and is evolving. I love that.
