Question Doubts of a non-reader

Hey guys.
I must admit I never read any season 8 comics. I was very disappointed when I read how the story was going on so I just limited myself to read on wikipedia what was happening and just read the pages where the most important things happen and, obviously, there a couple of things that I don't get.
I was expecting this huge betrayal from someone very close to Buffy that I kept reading about but I just missed it...did they mean the all Twilight-being-Angel thing?
Buffy went to the future and saw that Willow was evil, alive and kicking and did she just say "All right"? Did I miss all the concern that I was expecting from Buffy but also from Willow and everyone else?

This is surely because I never read the comics...my bad I know, but I can't stand them. The plot went somewhere too far and I don't see Buffy in it anymore.

I just recently finished reading season 8, and like you, had heard about the story and was somewhat disappointed with the direction some of the characters had been taken. I decided to go ahead and read them all and while I wasn’t crazy about the story I did enjoy reading them. I'd encourage you to go ahead and read the comics, you may end up enjoying them more than you expect.

I doubt anyone loves all of season 8, but there's lots of things to enjoy. The bigger plot went down the toilet, specially with the Twilight-space-frak-Angel-acting-braindead-thing, but you should read how this unnamed Buffy slayer decoy dies for the cause, how Xander & Dawn comes closer, how Willow and Oz meets and gets closure, how Warren dies(mohahaha) and other good things about season 8.

Buy the first TPB on amazon or ebay and see what it's about(I highly recommend buying the TPB, not thye first single issue, since I disliked season 8 until eading issue 5, which made me cry) or wait until summer to buy the first hardcover with issue 1-10. If you don't like it, there might be a cover gallery inside the HC as it is in the TPBs, and you could frame those.

The S8 comics are terrible for the most part, in plot and in art. But I did enjoy the Faith and Fray arcs. (The rest, though...) Banter was pretty good between characters.

Actually, look for them at your public library before buying them. That's where I read most of them (then I bought them later). And that's really all I have to say on a "I-Hate-Season-8-thread".

Never said this is a "I hate season 8 thread". I've asked some questions (wich few answered) and just said that I can't stand season 8 to explain why I didn't get every part of the plot. If season 8 sucks or not IS NOT THE POINT OF THE THREAD ;-)

I think that's a bit of an extreme interpretation. People are allowed to dislike season 8 and it's plotlines just as you are allowed to like it, please keep that in mind.

I love S8. Not everything, but then I don't love everything about the other seasons either. But there's so much to enjoy in S8: The Chain, the Buffy/Willow complicated friendship, Buffy/Xander closeness and Xander's faith in Buffy, Xander/Dawn becoming a couple, the Giles/Faith friendship, Andrew being accepted as a Scooby, Satsu and Renee, Oz and his family, Oz/Willow finding closure... all worth buying S8 IMO.

I KNOW ALL OF THIS. As I said, I know how the plot goes on, I've read a few issues...I just don't like that it's a comic so I don't want to buy it! Is it this big problem telling me if the betrayal was the Angel being Twilight or if I missed something?

In my oppinion I can understan all of you. The ones who love season 8 and the ones who hate season 8.

Personally I love season 8. I started with this season in the Buffyuniverse and without the comics I would have never bought my first Buffy DVD!
On the one hand the comics are not really comparable with the tv-show. The hole story is too different. More fantasy and less real life-Buffy(problems). And I think the relationships between the characters didn't rest the way they had been before, even if I can't tell you why! Maybe you can't show such emotions in a comic as you can show in a film!
But if you realize that the comics are different, and if you are willing to engage in these comics, I am sure you will enjoy them! They have other factors which are better than in TV. So I think they are absolutly readable! I enjoyed them, they led me to BTVS and Angel!

It isn't a problem at all, people just didn't want to spoil you if decided to read them. 🙂

Yes, the Angel/Twilight debacle was the big betrayal. Also,

It's not. I just thought that if you wanted to read the issues, you wouldn't want to be spoiled and you'd love to doscover it yourself.

Buffy season 8 does not do a good job at representing the medium, the comic review sites pretty much panned it. To put it bluntly, it's a BAD comic. The art is terrible ( just check the initial run of Buffy comics, it's embarrassing how much better Cliff Richards was ) there's no character development and the story, well...it really is as bad as it sounds. Also, it's derivative. It's OK as a part of the franchise but you can't really compare it to good non-cape comics.

Where can I find his answer? Because I'm suprised that it's that Buffy slept with Angel. I mean, we fans have discussed it so much, and then it's that the universe roofied Buffy? Feels cheap.

I've never read Joss' comments on this. I know that the answer is that Buffy betrayed herself, I think I've read it in one of Allie's interviews, and I think she betrayed herself by giving in to her weakness and sleeping with Angel creating Twilight and dooming the world to end. Sleeping with Angel caused a lot of deaths, including Giles'. It was the reason why she had to smash the seed and end magic.

I've read them. All. I must say it's not like reading rubbish but I don't get much emotions like in the tv series...it's still like reading it just for the sake of the plot. I don't know if I'm very good at explaining myself, but I read about Giles' death and it doesn't seem that it happened to the Giles that I know and love. Same with all the other characters.

I interpret what Joss says at 5:50 as Joss releasing those of us who dislike the comic from feeling obligated to feel it's a continuation of the show. I understand there are people on this board who love the comics, and as someone who has bought and read all the comics I definitely see they have merit, but I don't think they hold a candle to the tv series or are a believable continuation of the characters I have loved for 14 years, so I'm a little tired of people who keep trying to get those of us who have read them and disliked them to put them on the same level as the tv series. I understand people love them, which is why I respectfully stay out of the comic issue discussion threads, but there are many of us who just don't like them and would rather forget they exist.
