i recently watched hero and i just hate but still love the part when doyle dies i hate it becuase he's gonna die (yes i cry at the scene too) but i love it because he's dying a true hero

who's with me?

i just watched this for the 1st time. Definitely cried.
I guess I kind of agree. Doyle is my favorite character pretty much, and I remember when I first started watching Angel, he had already died so I didn't know who he was, I just knew that Wesley was there and the first time I got the first season and saw him in the first episode I was like, "Oh, who is this guy? Oh he better not die." And then when he did die, I was just like, "Ah come on, seriously?" and then I cried. I still cry at that scene too. I'm glad that since he had to go, he got a hero's death at least, unlike Glenn Quinn in real life. =(
 
I wasn't a huge fan of Doyle the first time around because I started watching it but was aware Wesley would join, so I was excited as I liked Wesley.
However after I bought season 1 on DVD and rewatched it, I began to appreciate him more.

I never got distressed by his death though because I knew it was a good death (heroic)
 
My friend says the first time she saw Hero, she got so mad that she just threw the remote on the floor. =O But now, every year on Glenn's real death day, we get together and watch Hero.
 
he was my fav character... i'm sad he couldn't stay more in the show... =( but when i discovered that he died in real life... :'(
 
I liked him on Angel but I wasn't that sad that he died...on the show that is. I really like Wes and I think Wes was a great addition.
I am sad for Glenn in real life tho. Very sad.

Bachelor Party

This was one of Doyle's best episodes. Not surprising since it focused around him ^_^ Plus learning more about Doyle is always great.
A third grade teacher, not knowing he was a demon til it actually happened. Very informative episode. It delivered it greatly.
Plus it had an AMAZING story behind everything we learned. The whole "eating of the first husbands brains"
And the family acting as if it was okay.. yet they weren't comfortable with charades :lmao:
lol and the demon apologizing for saying he didn't want to eat Doyle's brains was hilarious.
Demon Doyle looks great, and Cordy going all bashing over his head and still not realizing Doyle is a demon is again funny as hell!
haha I loved this episode. But It can't compare to Hero, Doyle's greatest episode!


Hero

This was by far the saddest episode of Angel, It was by far sadder then the previous episode "I will Remember you" I know you all probably disagree but for me it was.
Watching this episode was so fun, I knew what was going to happen and tried not to think about but, every line about sacrifices, and doing the right thing, foreshadowing everything.
It was so sad, :cry: I couldn't even help myself from tearing up. Seeing Doyle sacrifice himself to save so many others. This line did it for me I couldn't hold back after he said it :cry:

Doyle: The good fight, yeah? You never know until you've been tested. I get that now.
[Doyle punches Angel off of the balcony and turns to kiss Cordelia]
Doyle: Too bad we'll never know
[changes to his demon face]
Doyle: if this is a face you could learn to love.
Angel: Doyle. Doyle. Doyle! Doyle! No!
[Doyle jumps onto machine]
Angel: [shouting] Doyle! No!

It was horrifically sad I couldn't contain myself ::crying2:::crying2: lol idk what that says about me lol!
Then you here the commercial Cordelia was shooting of Doyle, and then it gets even sadder :cry:

Doyle: When the chips are down, and you're at the end of your rope you need someone that you can count on.
And that's what you'll find here - someone who'll go all the way, who'll protect you no matter what.
So don't lose hope. Come on over to our offices and you'll see that there's still heroes in this world.

I used to not like watching sad sad episodes that's probably why I haven't seen that episode in over a year.
heh, my loss, but it'll probably be another year before I see it again, the longer in between the so much more beautiful this episode is.

:cry: As I said very very very sad 🙁 I'm sure someone can put this into better words than I can. What did everyone else think about it?
 
I think watching Hero now, it hold so much more emotion for the viewer, so much more poignant. It's just too sad.

Doyle as a character, I loved him. He was cute and kind but strong, stronger than he even knew and I love what he brought out of Angel and Cordy. I could have done without him being played up as a bum drunk, that Irish stereotype got old about 150 years ago.

I loooooved Doyle! He was just plain cool.

I am torn between these two episodes. I think I like Bachelor Party best because we get to see so much of his really interesting backstory. Plus, you know, those demons are just too funny.

But you have a point about Hero, too. It's hard to top self-sacrifice as a character's shiniest moment.
 
I hate to admit it but after Doyle's last episode i just jumped to season 2 :lmao: today i went back and watched the episode after those and Angel was so sad
Angel: "I had someone at my side, he's dead now I'm not going to let that happen again. I work alone."
awww that just brings back sadness and despair plus i just finished watching the last episodes ever of Buffy :cry:
 
It's never a lot of fun to watch a character you've gotten to know and like on a show die, and I can understand that, though I wasn't a fan of Angel and never saw the earlier seasons until the DVD's came out, but just think how different the show would have been if Wesley had never been there. I think he was one of the strongest supporting characters on either series, especially in the later season when he was no longer so prim and proper. Some folks just look better a little bit grubby (at least, that's what I keep telling Lady Avenger)

i think it would have been great to have both doyle and wesley on the show. that would have made for a great love-triangle with cordelia.
 
Talking about Doyle makes me want to go run over to my box sets and watch Hero.. *Runs to go do that* ^_^ Doyle was the best character in season 1!!
 
I loved the character Doyle, he was great! 😛 But cause he wasnt on the show for long, when he died, it was just a great episode but not a TRAGEDY like You're Welcome or Shells

It was a tragedy A hero died! ::bbat::::bbat:: just not as sad, well for you ^.^
I thought this was one of the saddest eps ^_^ We lost a great character!
Then I found out after watching this that the actor was dead too :cry:
 
Yeah but the actor died i dunno 2, 3 years later? 😛

Cause he wasn't really a long running character I just didn't feel for him as much when he died.. I did cry though 😛 But I was crying for cordy!
