Doyle

Hey all.

I'm currently re-watching Angel and yesterday I got to watch Hero, and was, like a few others saddened by the demise of Doyle.
It's quite sad to find out by reading this thread that Glenn had actually died too - more than a year after being written out.

I can't really say I liked or disliked the character as Doyle wasn't in the show long enough for me to really make my mind up about him. Sure he had his good points, but he had bad points too - who doesn't? But normally on a show like Buffy or Angel I tend to make my mind up about the characters at the end of the each season - and sometimes my point of view changes about those that survive the season - Dawn and Anya for example, I went from 'severe dislike' of both to 'can't see the show without them' during s6 -- yeah I know, before you start... s6...

Anyway - the point of this post - Doyle ...

Here's a link to some interesting facts that people might not have known about Glenn Quinn.

Just finished "Hero" for the first time. Wow, I've cried two epis in a row. I don't think that ever happened with BtvS.

I absolutely loved Glenn Quinn as Mark Healy, but wow, I had no idea he was Irish in real life.

Doyle is a huge part of why I've enjoyed AtS so far, and am surprised Joss took him out so early.

Please don't shoot me, but I didn't particularly adore Wesley on Buffy. I'm hoping it's a different case in AtS.

side note: Can someone PLEASE konk me? I ruined most of BtvS for myself with spoilers and am quickly going down the same road with AtS. I don't mean to--it just happens. Also, it seems like EVERYONE dies on this series (I think I know of at least 5)--wait, don't answer that! :àž

sure, if you want... KONK!
I loved Doyle..he only stayed for 9 ep. but i really wanted to see him with cordy! i think Hero was the only Angel episode that i cryed.. :'( (and after watching Hero i went to the internet to know if he really died or if he'd come back.. that's when i discovered Glenn Quinn died.. so, sadness x2 :'( )

just wondering.. angel + buffy = bangel; spike + buffy = spuffy; and doyle + cordelia = ??? Doylia? (that sounds weird!! :s ) Coyle??

I vote Coyle!
Just bought season one a few days ago and that was the first time I've cried watching a show in a long time. And it wasn't so much the character, but what it did to Angel and Cordy. That broke my heart, however, it did warm my heart the way he went out and I like to think about it like this: if it wasn't for him making that huge sacrifice, then Angel and Cordy would've died and the series would be over.

Yeah, I know there's ways around that, but that my cup half full approach. 🙂

I'm rewatching Season 1 of Angel, and it still kind if suprises me how much Doyle's death gets to me. 🙁 I LOVED the character, and thought Glenn Quinn was a great addition to the cast. And especially now, knowing what happened to him in real life, it makes me very sad because I thought he was so talented.
I was so sad when Doyle died, and couldn't believe Joss would kill off one of the principals of the show, but I was very happy and excited that they brought Alexis in to fill the void. I still miss Doyle though, and wish he could have come back some way other than flashbacks or tricks of a demon, you know?

I don't find his death so sad as Cordelia's reaction to it. I understand why they killed him...but I wish they coulda kept him around until at least the end of the season. I found him a much more interesting character than Wesley.

Bachelor Party

This was one of Doyle's best episodes. Not surprising since it focused around him ^_^ Plus learning more about Doyle is always great.
A third grade teacher, not knowing he was a demon til it actually happened. Very informative episode. It delivered it greatly.
Plus it had an AMAZING story behind everything we learned. The whole "eating of the first husbands brains"
And the family acting as if it was okay.. yet they weren't comfortable with charades :lmao:
lol and the demon apologizing for saying he didn't want to eat Doyle's brains was hilarious.
Demon Doyle looks great, and Cordy going all bashing over his head and still not realizing Doyle is a demon is again funny as hell!
haha I loved this episode. But It can't compare to Hero, Doyle's greatest episode!

Hero

This was by far the saddest episode of Angel, It was by far sadder then the previous episode "I will Remember you" I know you all probably disagree but for me it was.
Watching this episode was so fun, I knew what was going to happen and tried not to think about but, every line about sacrifices, and doing the right thing, foreshadowing everything.
It was so sad, I couldn't even help myself from tearing up. Seeing Doyle sacrifice himself to save so many others. This line did it for me I couldn't hold back after he said it

Doyle: The good fight, yeah? You never know until you've been tested. I get that now.
[Doyle punches Angel off of the balcony and turns to kiss Cordelia]
Doyle: Too bad we'll never know
[changes to his demon face]
Doyle: if this is a face you could learn to love.
Angel: Doyle. Doyle. Doyle! Doyle! No!
[Doyle jumps onto machine]
Angel: [shouting] Doyle! No!

It was horrifically sad I couldn't contain myself ::crying2:::crying2: lol idk what that says about me lol!
Then you here the commercial Cordelia was shooting of Doyle, and then it gets even sadder

Doyle: When the chips are down, and you're at the end of your rope you need someone that you can count on.
And that's what you'll find here - someone who'll go all the way, who'll protect you no matter what.
So don't lose hope. Come on over to our offices and you'll see that there's still heroes in this world.

I used to not like watching sad sad episodes that's probably why I haven't seen that episode in over a year.
heh, my loss, but it'll probably be another year before I see it again, the longer in between the so much more beautiful this episode is.

 As I said very very very sad 🙁 I'm sure someone can put this into better words than I can. What did everyone else think about it?

pretty much thought the same as you and yes i cried for the whole weekend when i watched it and it still chokes me today!!

I liked Doyle, but in a way I find it fits the story, where Joss Wheedon broke all the rules of film and theatre and it's a very brave move for a new show to kill off one of its main characters after only half of the first season. In a way I like it, and it gives the story interesting opportunities, which Buffy could never have I think. Eventhough I thought it sad at the time, when I watched it. He was a great character and long live the Irish. Jippie.

I don't think it's alright to kill a character just to make a "brave" move. I understand that characters need to die sometimes to advance the story or simply because they've served their purpose and are now disposable. I always just felt he had so much more potential, and you should at least use a good character up before you spit them out, if you ask me.

I feel cheated in someway that He was stolen from me, almost like I never knew him well enough but enough to miss him. He was funny , good looking and going to get the girl.

A true hero story when you thinking your winning then you must sacrafice your live for others. Becoming a true Hero remembered for one special act of selflessness . Always good to see the underdog become a Hero x

First of all, I absolutely adore Wesley (well, more than adore), Rogue Demon Hunter that he is. 😉

However, I did very much love Doyle. Doyle was so wonderful, and sweet, and poignant... and then he died. I have this thing against Joss and killing off characters that I liked. (You should have seen me sobbing after Becoming II... no, wait, you shouldn't have) I have this love/hate relationship with the man, and I think that I most definitely agree with Alan Tudyk's description of him. 😉

Doyle did, though, get a good, heroic death. Much better than Angel's... his wasn't heroic at all (just heart-breaking). But what did satisfy me about the whole his dying, was that we got to see a kiss between Doyle and Cordy before they went. (Even if it is for her to get the visions, but still... I love Nine and Rose's kiss in Dr. Who, so...)

It was a good, heroic death, as I said. But it was also horrid... killing off a character before a full season was even over. So I hate Joss, love Doyle, but I love Wesley as his replacement. 🙂

Oh yes, I certainly agree he got a death that was moving and well-fitted for the character...I woulda been very angry if they'd killed a core character that early in the show the way they killed Tara, for instance...the fact it was a noble, heroic death certainly makes it an easier pill to swallow.

i recently watched hero and i just hate but still love the part when doyle dies i hate it becuase he's gonna die (yes i cry at the scene too) but i love it because he's dying a true hero

who's with me?

I just watched that epiosde this morning...

and man, is that episode sad!! I totally cried...I'm such a dork...and Angel and Cordelia look so sad at the end...

*sighs

Yeah i just watched this episode now, and it's so sad, but it was such a heroic move made by Doyle, and he made full peace with himself from the incident before when he didn't help out the half demons. It's been a while since i seen this episode, so i didn't even know Doyle was going to die until i saw him looking at Angel in a wierd way. Then I said "yep, this must be it here Doyle is going to sacrifice himself". He was such a cool character and added a lot to the gang, it was so sad seeing Angel and Cordelia at the end. Well at least Wesley comes, if he didn't and it was just Angel and Cordy being all depressed like, that would of been a bummer lol.

Every time I see Hero, I end up crying. I fell in love with Doyle the first time I saw him. He was such a great character. I hate that Glenn died in real life because he was a great actor.

I just fell in love with his cute blue eyes and Cordelia and he just came closer (or were going to) and he had to play the hero and die.....
but, hey, I am with you, you have to love true heros!!

I watched this episode a couple of days ago. I loved Doyle. He was a great character and he was adorable
