I feel cheated in someway that He was stolen from me, almost like I never knew him well enough but enough to miss him.

That is EXACTLY how I feel!

First of all, I absolutely adore Wesley (well, more than adore), Rogue Demon Hunter that he is. 😉

However, I did very much love Doyle. Doyle was so wonderful, and sweet, and poignant... and then he died. I have this thing against Joss and killing off characters that I liked. (You should have seen me sobbing after Becoming II... no, wait, you shouldn't have) I have this love/hate relationship with the man,

I love Wesley too well until a certain point in the show anyway.

Doyle on the other hand, I loved him from his first scene until his death. He was so warm and sweet and just very loveable. I always wanted to see him with Cordy, and that is a huge part of why I cry every time I see this episode--because I really feel like they could've had a future, and not only did we lose his character we lost any chance of Coyle.

And then to pick up a magazine in a doctor's office and read that Glenn Quinn himself had died... I found out he was on Roseanne from his obituary and now whenever I watch it and see his character it makes me want to cry. He was such a wonderful actor and I hate that he died because of a drug overdose.

RIP Doyle... and RIP Glenn.

Ditto your Wesley comment Manda, too true.
9 episodes was never long enough for a character like Doyle, he was great to watch. And i found Hero quite disappointing. I'd have liked to see him kept on until Five by Five. Even if it meant Wes's introduction had to be delayed.

If that had happened we could have gotten to know Doyle alot more. They could have further developed him and Cordys romance, and it would allow him and Angel to grow closer. Then it would have had a much bigger impact if Faith had killed him in her psychotic state in Five by Five.

It sure had. But are you sure Angel would have been able to forgive Faith for that? That might have changed the story quite a bit.

I like Doyle and it had been interesting to see how things had continued if he'd been on the show longer. And if he'd died later on it probably had felt worse than it did now. Because even if Hero is sad and emotionell, getting to know him more would probably make for more feelings. At least for me personally. It was sad to see him go but I can't say that I too often find myself thinking of how much I miss him in the other seasons.

Wesleys a loser but it's not his fault they wanted to lighten the show up because it was too dark. There is a shift in tone when he appears that carries on to season two.

It's terrible that the network stepped in because they crippled the show for me.

I remember loving all the eps up till Hero and then waiting for it too get better.

Had 2 wait a while.

Awwww, Wesley's not a loser! :(

I've never got to know the reason why Glenn had to leave the show. But it's the network what wanted him gone? They didn't feel he brought enough to the show? Wow in that case they're dead wrong. Not that I mind Wesley coming to the show. I like him a lot.

I absolutely LOVE Wesley and I am so happy that he got to come onto the show, but I was so sad when Doyle got killed off. Of course we'll never really know why Glenn Quinn was axed from the show, and that is something there is a lot of speculation on.

Just my personal opinion, but it appears that the more "in" you are with Joss, the more chance your character has of staying alive. I mean look at almost all the candids you see of the cast. It's almost always Joss, Aly, Michelle, and James with maybe a couple other cast members thrown in. And because Alexis is married to Aly.... Well, I don't think I need to go on. I'm not by any means saying that Alexis only got on the show because of this, because he is a kick-ass actor, but I think this definitely helps.

Alexis Denisof joined "Angel" in the 1st season, well before he married Allison Hannigan. Which wasn't until 2003.

I believe he got the jobs on both BTVS/Angel on his own merits and deservedly so. Don't think his relationship with Hannigan factored into him returning on Angel.

Well, when I first started watching (in June or July, I think) It was in about season four or five, so I didn't know there even WAS a Doyle, but then when they started re-airing it and it had doyle, I automatically liked him. He was just so hilarious, and goofy, but sweet sometimes, and, until he died, I actually perferred Doyle/Cordy, rather than Angel/Cordy, but the whole time, I had a feeling in the pit of my stomach he would die, and when he did, I still cried, but I was happy he died a hero, and at least got his kiss with Cordy before his death. So... What I'm trying to say is... RIP Doyle!

Actually, I asked myself the same question. When in my country we first had Angel shown on tv I became a Doyle's huge fan at ones. When I went on internet to find some information about Glenn I was so shocked to hear about his death... And when I tried to find why he died the stories about his death seemed to me actually really weird and unfull... Horrible.

I new about Glenn's death only a year ago. The story of his death seemed to me very veird and hush-hush (so many his big fans simply never heared of what happened and it wasn't even on tv-news). It was written that he died of an overdose, though it sounded very unreal: I found and read all Glenn's interviews that time (2000-2002), saw his pictures, and there was nothing in him from a drug-addicted...

Person on drugs has an agressive and unsocial behaviour, also when this person is a tv-star, this star is always involved in lots of scandals. Glenn was never that way. I can say that he was one of the most less scandal tv-actors...

I found a lot of other veird facts on his death and decided to do a little investigation, so I wrote an article about it. As a new member I'm not allowed to post links here, but it's easy to find this article on my website (mariaksand.blog.ru), I called it "Message to Angel fans"...

It's never a lot of fun to watch a character you've gotten to know and like on a show die, and I can understand that, though I wasn't a fan of Angel and never saw the earlier seasons until the DVD's came out, but just think how different the show would have been if Wesley had never been there. I think he was one of the strongest supporting characters on either series, especially in the later season when he was no longer so prim and proper. Some folks just look better a little bit grubby (at least, that's what I keep telling Lady Avenger)

So do you think Doyle dying was what really made way for Wesley? I always wondered why they got rid of Doyle so quickly. I mean, I thought he was a great character, very likable. I agree the show would not have been the same without Wesley. Maybe Doyle was just too cool..... He had almost too many charismatic qualities about him. I guess he could have taken away from Angels brooding character. I wonder....I wish they could have kept him around longer, though or at least made it so he could have had reappearances!

Huh.

And, on the topic of Doyle, I just got season 1 of both Angel and Buffy on DVD (*SLAPHAPPY!*)
and i remembered how much I love Doyle.
I sorta forgot after not watching season 1 for a while. RIP DOYLE!!!!!!

I love the character so much, and I was devasted when he was killed off. The reasons for doing so seem to have been mired a little in controversy, Joss claimed it was always on the cards, writer Howard Gordon (24) who was writing for the show at the time claimed that he never knew of such a plan, and the show in the developing stages seemed to have problems in who to have as the third lead (there were rumours of Whistler from the tail end of Buffy's second season), whatever the story, I was very upset when they wrote him off and even more so when they never brought him back and I think the whole thing is even more poignant now given events in real life.

^ I'd heard somewhere that Whistler was supposed to be introduced instead of Doyle, as well. I can't remember where, but I always thought that could have been a neat story to explore.

Anyway, no matter who else was supposed to have the spot, I loved Doyle's character! He knew how to give Angel a kick in the behind, and never failed to deliver laughs to the show. It's a shame that his character didn't stick around for long, but I suppose it did give Cordelia's character a little more purpose (and made way for Wesley, who grew up SO much on AtS). I'm glad that he at least went out fighting, saving innocent people. Think that it was the only fitting way to get rid of such a "nice guy"

I rewatched Hero the other day, and boy i really did not remember it being such a sad episode. I never really liked Doyle that much but rewatching it i was so sad to see him killed off. He brought a lot of humour to the show while not just being there for comic relief. As much as i love Wes as well, i really think Doyle should have stayed on the show, at least for another season.
