I didn't see the episode, but in my tv guide I get there was a picture of peter kay, and i thought he had a similar look to Balthazar(spelt wrong maybe?) from season 3 Buffy. Just a thought.
(the pic was only of his face btw. I think it was the third chin, lol)
Excellent eppy IMO...great story and great actors...it was a refreshing change to see things from the point of view of someone other than The Doctor or Rose. It was called Love and Monsters and it did what it said on the tin...a nice couple of love stories (Elton/Ursula and Mr Skinner/Bridget) and a couple of monsters...I thought Peter Kay was good, especially when he turned into the Absorbaloff (the "lots of planets have a North" line sprang immediately to mind 🙂)...Camille Coduri was excellent as Jackie and Marc Warren (of Hustle fame) was well cast as Elton the Everyman - plus the ever reliable Shirley Henderson (Moaning Myrtle to Harry Potter fans) as Elton's love interest.
This was my first episode of Dr. Who, although I only saw the last 3 minuets, lol. But I do plan to start watching, and I did like the look of next weeks episode.
nerd4hireBy all means BEG. Maybe we'll let you join LINDA. :D
I'm in agreement with.....Mr P.
I thought it was a marvellous episode.
For a start, it was a game of 'Where are they from'!!
Like Pointy has said, Marc Warren and Shirley Henderson are Hustle and Harry Potter respectively, but the rest:-
Bliss was Louise from Two Pints of Lager
Mr Skinner was the hilarious Michael from Alan Partridge
Bridget is most likely recognisable from The Bill, but i know her from NeverEnding Story 3 as the Gnome woman.
Personally, this felt like a fan film. A shout out to people like us. I mean these guys they get together, they have fun, they discuss what brings them together and they create relationships eventually opening up to them...sounds exactly like Forum life.
I was not let down by this episode at all, i must admit to giggling a few times.....the ELO thing at the start, or how about the fact Elton and Ursula still enjoy some semblance of a sex life!!!!! Have you ever cringed and laughed so hard at the same time!!!
Its like Pointy also said, a great experiment to have a look at the impact The Doctor has on this world while he isn't there. It was touched upon in the very first episode with Chris Eccleston with that Mark Benton character who knew of The Doctor.
Also, i have to admit i adored the recollection of those season 1(Christmas) episodes seen through someone elses eyes...brilliant.
Peter Kay now, that was amazing. When he was in human form, the voice was funny, but irritating, then we see him as the Absorbolof and its the Comedian there in the 'flesh'.
I nearly weed myself laughing at him, and i thought the Alien was quite amusing in its own right.
No, i can forsee this episode getting a battering by some but for me, this was great.
Though note to self, don't mess with Rose's mum.....Rose won't like it.
Ohhh and what i'm about to write, don't read if you don't wanna discuss the series end, even though its speculation its still gonna go into something🙂
Near the end, when Elton was going on about Salvation and Damnation, and Rose and Jackie paying the price and all that, this confirmed to me the whole 'Rose is gonna die' in Doomsday theory thats being touted, that was hinted at last week with the Devil. Seems they had to release the info about her leaving now because most fans would have worked it out tonight....
🙂
Mr. PointyAgreeing with your spoiler - that's what they seem to be building up to
The bit at the end where he said everyone pays the price was absolutly powerfull! as for the sex inuendo bit i haven't laughed and cringed so much !
and i did recognise moaning Myrtle, and the Hustle guy...but i couldn't place Bridget but thanks to DDM i can i did recognise her but couldn't think where i saw her from.
Its like Pointy also said, a great experiment to have a look at the impact The Doctor has on this world while he isn't there. It was touched upon in the very first episode with Chris Eccleston with that Mark Benton character who knew of The Doctor.

The Absorbaloff did look a bit like Balthazar, but didn't his mannerisms, and what not remind you of Fat Bastard from the Austin Powers movies. "Get in my Stomach!!"
Great parts for actors to cut loose. The Harry Potter girl caught my eye. Hope she gets more parts we can see over here.
Liked the bits of clever writing like the circular story, and the foreshadowing of the fates of Rose and Jackie.
I always enjoy those Fan Nod stories - Galaxy Quest, Free Enterprise - but I sometimes wonder if mainstream people get them.
Definitely an episode that will serve well for repeat viewings.
I found it a bit of a smiler, yet a bit sad at the same time. I think it's an ep you'll see influencing other media outside of Who, and people will be referring to years down the road.
If you get to see it over there, look out for the BBC's Shakespeare Re-told (a series of four of his plays re-told in modern settings) - it's very well done and nowhere near as bad as it could've been 🙂
Shirley Henderson is excellent alongside Rufus Sewell in The Taming of the Shrew...Billie Piper is also very good in Much Ado About Nothing btw.
They actually showed the little lad's visit to the set on Blue Peter last week and it looked like he had a great time...he met all the principals, saw his monster being realised and so on. I was genuinely impressed with how nice all the Doctor Who cast and crew were...
...however, I should be thoroughly ashamed of myself...a forty-something bloke being so jealous of an eight-year-old 😉
I really enjoyed this episode, but honestly, not as much as last weeks.
The ending, for me, was a bit too cheesy.
And would it have really hurt them to have someone like Kelly Holmes(referenced in the Street name) as the one running that final leg until The Doctor took over...i mean lets be honest IN 2012 its gonna be someone like her doing it anyway!!!
The story was good, i did find that Evil Drawing a Bit blah, i mean why did it come alive?
Those drawings were sent back to where they were taken from when the Alien left the Girl, so it really didn't make sense that the essence of her Father would come to life, to me it should have gone to where it had come from.
Next Weeks looks awesome and if anyone ANYONE wants a look at a very REAL POSSIBILITY for something in it, then go to www.After-Darkness.com and go into the way cool Dr Who section where I've started a thread about Army of Ghosts/Doomsday
Army of Ghosts, bloody brilliant.
not gonna discuss here, so anyone wants a conversation, get your arses over to www.after-darkness.com and start talking.
Or you can go directly to the AD discussion "Army of Ghosts" page at this link and chat there.
