Stay safe if the hurricane comes your way!
Glad all the buildings and roads held up over there; that area is not equipped to handle that sort of thing. Although, being from CA, I did laugh a little at all the earthquake jokes that have been all over Twitter.

Whoa, hope everyone is safe! I wonder how many East Coasters actually knew what to do in an earthquake, haha. I hope I'm not being paranoid here, but I swear there was just a small earthquake where I am, and I'm in Northern California right now. Is there something going on? Some apocalypse I should know about?

okay, i'm not imagining things...there was actually another earthquake today where I am. 3.6 magnitude. Pretty small, but still weird given everything that's happened today!

According to the data I've seen, it has been recorded as a 5 point 9. The epi centre being underground at Mineral in VA. Why it was felt in such a big area (including parts of southern Canada) is because of it being at a high level (a few miles under ground-level).
Between the epi centre and NY there is a fault line, in global terms it is a fairly minor one. The last noted earthquake being 114 years ago. The number of after shocks are only half a dozen or so. I say only half a dozen or so, as compared with Christchurch in New Zealand's South island. That has had about 8,000 aftershocks in the last 11 months.

On the down side, I hope all the residents of east coast America are getting ready, in case Irene heads your way. The last big one was Andrew in 1992, that cyclone decimated many communities on the coast.

Every customer at work asked me if I felt the earthquake. Luckily I heard about it on the radio on the way to work or I would have just looked at them like they were crazy we dont get earthquakes in nyc. I didnt feel it but everyone was freaking out lol

I didn't feel anything. But perhaps some other parts of Massachusetts got shaken up...I haven't really asked around. Hopefully everyone came out alright.

I didn't feel it but I was sleeping when it happened haha. Nobody I've asked around me felt it though so I guess it didn't do much here in southern NC. Doesn't look like the same will be said about Irene though, I'm getting a bit nervous about it.

I hope all you US east coast BB-ers are OK after the quake...and now best batten down your hatches for the hurricane...be safe folks.
