Question Edward Cullen: Angel Rip-off?

Now, everyone hates Edward Cullen. But what's even worse than that is a copycat.

Could Stephanie Meyer's main character that made her millions be a rip-off?

i think so, and here are some similarities.

1) They both lurk around like stalkers.
2) They both are vampires who don't eat humans.
3) The hair. It's pretty similar. ick. Angel! 😀

What do you think? (And do you see other similarities?)

I definitely see alot of similarities between Edward and Angel. I think Edward's a lot more annoying than Angel ever was, though, and this is coming from a "Twilight" fan. Stephenie Meyer put her own unique spin on vampires, so I don't think anyone can say she ripped anything off, but yeah, Edward is a little too much like Angel for my taste. They both renounce being a vampire and they both brood a lot...
 
Definitely, Edward is quite similar to Angel... Except that he's a lil younger and way less badass. 😉 Also, Angel in his show actually showed a wide range of emotions. Ed is kinda lacking when it comes to that.

I never really saw a lot of Angel in Edward. Edward is too much of an adolescent for me to think there's a lot of overlap.
Don't get me wrong, I can see why other people see the similarities between the characters but for some reason I never even thought of it until it was pointed out to me. I can only guess that the reason above is why. 🙂
 
I did actually think this as well.

Also had a far-fetched thought about the episode Earshot and Edward Cullen. Buffy couldn't hear Angel's thoughts and Edward can't hear Bella's.

i totally thought of that too!!!!!!!! glad im not the only one...i thought I was wayyy over analyzing
I find this thread pointless and the usefulness for this topic is a disgrace to Angel itself as well as the actor.

Wait, wait, wait. So does that mean Edward can hear other peoples' thoughts?

He's a telepathic, sparkling, Christian, virgin, Cobra poison sucking, vampire?

(re wickedtiger) In the movie Bella gets bitten by a vampire which poisons her for some reason? (scratches head) and Edward sucks the poison out.

Sure, they're totally alike if you ignore the fact that Angel lurks around only to help Buffy not because she smells good (or Angelus because he wants to drive her mad), and that Angel doesn't sparkle in the sun, or does anything in the sun for that matter, or that he's good looking, and that hair gel thing he pulled of first.. what were we talking about again?

I hate Twilight/Buffy comparisons. It's like you compare this beautiful flower with the huge pile of dog poop.. that sparkles.

I think no matter which way you go Edward will be similar to Angel because of the circumstance. The whole "forbidden love" theme usually has that brooding, annoying, "Oh, I'm such a baaaad man" attitude for the vampire which ever way you spin it.

Angel is way cooler though. 😎

I don't think Stephenie ripped off Angel for Edward. They do have similarties when you pint them out, still they are different in many ways. Edward is more young and human like in a way. As Angel is brooding yes, but he's got this tough badass darkside.
Plus I don't think you can do comparison if yor going by Robert Pattisons, Edward because to me he does an awful impersonation of him. I abcolutly love the books, and read them often. The movies now, No! I think they did a awful casting in the movies and just ain't enjoy like the books.
 
The one that wrote the books says she's never watched Buffy or Angel, but you can tell she's ripped off a lot from the shows -.-.
 
I agree that the stories are very different.....but no matter what I always come back to Twilight being a shortened, tween, cheesy, less-realistic, terribly boring rip-off of Buffy an Buffy/Angel FOR SURE. I can go through at least 3 episodes from each season of Buffy (the first three mostly though) that Twilight somehow has taken characteristics of some kind from. Whether it's character based or plot based.
I've officially converted to hating Twilight.

But I also have to agree that Robert Pattinson's Edward SUCKS compared to the books. He was kind of great in the books, but no where near being as amazing as Angel, of course.

I think Edward is more whipped than Angel though lol that always stands out. I don't see too many similarities other than the brooding because Angel can be a little bad at times where Edward acts like he is repaying for something that he never did. I haven't read the books in forever but did he even act like Angelus at all?

I never really see many similarities between Buffy/Angel as much because I see more with The Vampire Diaries. I like the movies just not the writer.

I kind of thought she copied more Sookie/vampires from TB on that one. When I first read the plot for True Blood I went what?

I agree Vampire Diaries has some of the copying going on, too.

True Blood came about after Twilight was written, though....so that wouldn't really make sense. I still say most of it was copied from Buffy.

The Sookie Stackhouse Series, which is the novels that True Blood are based off of came out 4 years before Twilight came out.
I feel that Stephenie Meyer not only took aspects from Buffy but also from The Sookie Stackhouse Series and The Vampire Diaries.

Yeah if Angel rolled around in glitter hahaha. When he was showing "The One Face Wonder" Kristen Stewart about his glitteryness I was like "AWW HELL, he's gonna kill himself now?".
