Eliza taking part in the Womens march - Boston

I'm just explaining how I and half the population feels about the UK. Scotland doesn't have a lot of trust in the UK government, and even the no voters are feeling cheated by the empty promises.

Fair enough. People don't trust the EU either.

Nobody trusts any politicians any more it seems.....

I don't like getting involved in political discussions because I just don't know enough about it to make a case, but Scottish independence is something
I feel quite passionate about.....
Now I know I wont be involved in any vote as , although I was born there, I only have slight Scottish ancestry & have lived most of my life in England.
I truly get that the Scots have an age old mistrust of the English, & it's a matter of trust, pride & national identity, but I don't think now is the right time.
Don't get me wrong, I would love to see Scotland independent & strong, but the way the world is at the moment I think the risks are too great.
Plus, if Scotland were to break away from the UK, that could trigger similar votes in Wales & N. Ireland & if they split too I think we would all struggle.
So, like I say, it's not up to me, but I think it would be best if we all (the UK) ride out the Brexit train we've hitched ourselves to & see if we come out
stronger.....then think about a free Scotland......

Don't shoot me down....it's just my opinion

It's refreshing to see a voter reflect and ponder rather than just go with their gut. :-)
"Oh so you voted to leave? Well we're going to make an example out of you and make it as difficult as possible because we don't want other countries following your lead".
Trigger Article 50. Enter 2 years of negotiations. Leave with or without a deal. The EU aren't making any of that difficult. Article 50 hasn't been triggered because the government had no plan for a Vote Leave result and no clue about our own laws. Obviously we won't be getting a better deal after leaving, that's not the EU making life difficult it just goes without saying.

Bored now.

Whats this about the abortion stuff thats making all the people on the childfree facebook groups freak out? Somehow intertwined with all this? As I understood abortion is not illegal, just not funded now? I do care, but not enough to spend energy researching something I cant do anything about, so anyone get me up to date?

There is little chance of making abortion illegal, so instead they make it as hard as possible to get one by cutting funds, closing down as many clinics as possible etc.
How does society stop all abortions without abortions being illegal? Allow more St John of God hospitals as them Catholics won't allow abortions.

Just to be clear on my position on the EU. I think it is time to move on from it. But at the same time its still important to keep healthy relations with Europe and to trade with them (which I doubt is going to change anytime soon). And I do think its very important to stay in the single market. Whether leaving the EU in the next two years would be considered a hard exit I can't really say. The whole thing is a bit of a mess that's one thing we can all agree on. Its important to get imput from the public and the other political parties on just how to move forward. This is too big not to do that.

It's great that people are protesting for women's rights. But it's the right thing for the wrong reason.

Or, at least, an obviously biased news media is portraying him to be that way.

I would challenge those protesters to actually give one (real) example of Trump being a racist - and I would bet they couldn't do it, but they'll still call him one. The problem with the biased media is that people just believe what they report without looking at the facts behind it. That and the blatant fearmongering that's going on, like this is the end of the world and all freedoms are suddenly going to be abolished.

People who let an agenda get in the way of facts are untrustworthy.

Like Obama? lol

He has already spread hate and divided people in a way that Clinton never would.

This I call bs on - the Obama administration divided people as a matter of policy. There is no indication that Clinton would have done any different - they thrive on division.

Mr Trick said:
No he probably doesn't have anymore power than any other President except unlike like BO he does have a house who are share his parties view point.

When Obama became president the Democrats controlled Congress.

And lets not forget when it was all said and done Clinton actually got more votes, and was the popular choice.

That's not how it works here. Our system takes into account ALL the people, not just those in the big cities.

having someone in the White House just because his name isn't Clinton is far from ideal😉

It's not ideal, but there's a reason people didn't want Clinton in the White House. And it's not because she's a woman.

You have to remember that Trump was born into money, and has been shown to be a crupt business man a number of times. Nowadays its easier than ever to be celebrity and to rip people off, and make money.

Let's not pretend Hilary isn't a millionaire. She was involved in corrupt business practices before her husband even entered the White House. She's had a string of positions she wasn't qualified for, and made a mess of them. As for being a celebrity and ripping people off, how about using your foundation's money to pay for your daughter's wedding?

Mr Trick said:
Oh and I think Obama did a good job overall as President to answer one of your other comments. You have to remember that he had his hands tied behind his backs a lot of his time.

So then he just did whatever he wanted via unlawful Executive Orders...

Because Clinton would have not discriminated against someone because of their gender or their place of birth etc...

Why not? Because she's a woman? She most certainly would discriminate - this is the woman who actually advocated (against her president husband's policy) moving the US embassy in Israel to Jerusalem. Who was vehemently against gay marriage. Just because she's a woman and/or a Democrat that does not make her a good person.

Being a pig is not the same thing as discrimination. And I challenge most men to say they've never made a lewd comment about a woman. Or women to say they've never made a lewd comment about a man. And being practical about the issues our country faces does not make someone a racist. They may be bad ideas, but they aren't racist.

But in reality, we have bigger problems than this. Social issues are not what's going to be important for the next four years. Trump is not going to be worrying about that. He's going to look at the economy and security. Which is what we need.

And the problem with what you said is that Trump actually benefited from the media. It was him using them more than the other way around. It was Clinton who suffered at the hands of a sexist media.

LOL. I'm sorry, but, the media is not sexist. Trump used the bad publicity the media was giving him to his advantage, but that doesn't mean they were biased for him. The media frickin' fed debate questions to Clinton ahead of time.

Abortion is legal, but every time a Republican comes into office people think they will somehow suddenly make it illegal. There are two issues. First, Republicans in Congress want to prevent patients on government-sponsored insurance (Medicaid) from using it to pay for treatment at Planned Parenthood. The real impetus behind the recent push for this is evidence of misconduct by Planned Parenthood (both Republicans and Democrats have issues with PP). Second, what Trump has just done is cut of funding to foreign pro-abortion organizations like International Planned Parenthood (except in cases of rape, incest etc). Which is something that has existed in the past and kind of flip flopped President to President, we had it during Reagan and the Bushes but not during Clinton or Obama.

Personally, I'm against "defunding it" here - they provide a lot of low cost preventative healthcare services to those who couldn't otherwise afford it (not abortions). Technically if Obamacare worked, people shouldn't NEED to go to Planned Parenthood, but that's not how it's worked out. I honestly don't know enough about what these organizations do overseas to judge whether it's worth US dollars or not. I sort of feel like the money would be better spent on contraception awareness, schooling for girls, things like that. But maybe that's part of it.

Ta for the explanation.
Obviously we won't be getting a better deal after leaving, that's not the EU making life difficult it just goes without saying.

I disagree. I think the EU will deliberately make things more difficult than they need to be because they don't want any other member countries leaving or thinking about leaving. They're most likely going to try and make an example out of the UK. "See kids, this is what happens if you try and leave the EU. So sit down, shut up, and stay in line!"

Well yeah, because they don't want anyone else leaving and upsetting the apple cart. The UK pays so much money into the EU, it can't afford for any other country to leave...... so instead of playing ball, they'll make it as difficult as possible to dissuade other countries from even bothering to try to leave.

So then he just did whatever he wanted via unlawful Executive Orders...

I don't understand how it can be unlawful when it is part of your legal system. Will it be unlawful when Trump uses them? Hasn't he already with the Keystone pipeline? Was it unlawful when Bush used them? Is there actually a legal amount of executive orders each president is allowed, or is the unlawful part a matter of interpretation? I don't get it.

I don't wanna go too off topic but I just wanted to clear something up. A very common (and tiring) assumption is that people want independence because they hate the English or they're dumb Braveheart loving Jocks who haven't thought about anything past emotional reaction and guts. That is not the case for those who voted yes. It is literally a life and death situation for those living in poverty. To live in poverty in a country that has no power to help its own people is a terrible state of affairs, and unless you've seen the disgusting levels of poverty in Glasgow, I don't think you can judge people for wanting to have a say in their politics. Honestly, some parts of Glasgow still look like the slums of the 30s. The worst areas with a life expectancy of 54. That's not a life. People need this change today, not another 10/20 years down the line. Who knows how bad it'll be by that point.

The consensus is it's ok to leave the EU but not the UK. The UK has much more of a direct effect on people's lives in my country than the EU has. And that effect is utterly toxic.

It's frustrating enough for me to get lumbered with Conservative rule and I'm doing OK in an area full of people who actually voted for it. I can't imagine how bad it is if you are struggling, the country rejects them en masse and you still get stuck with it.

@Buffy Summers Won't answer all your points as I've said enough before and think we will just have to agree to differ on this issue. But just few things.

1. No in my opinion the country would not been as divided if Clinton had been elected. For the simple reason she has not targeted minorities or people from the other gender. Its divided right now because Trump has given a voice to the racists and sexist pigs, and because many of the others are scared and want to rebel.

2. Clinton's gender isn't the only the reason she didn't win. I think there are many, but I do think it played a part. Just look at the fuss made over a female Ghostbusters movie. If a lot of people can't accept that then do you think they will accept the prospect of a female taking the top office?

3. The media is still very sexist. Just a small example, there was much trashing of her appearance than there was Trump's. Any comment about his appearance was just passed off as banter. His health or age was never called into question is another good example.

Kind of agree with Trick. Just look at all the protests. Not too mention some of the rather Nazi-esque things he's done since taking the oath. 😱

Trump has given a voice to the racists and sexist pigs

I don't consider myself either racist or sexist, and I know beyond all doubt that I am NOT a pig. Deplorable. maybe, but not a pig, and I find the lumping all trump supporters together in this way quite offensive. I have no control over either my sex or my race, and, quite frankly, have no intention of apologizing for either. Trump spoke to what has been referred to as the "white middle class majority," a group that has been long ignored in this country, but that one group would not have any chance of putting him in the White House without a sizable number of minorities of both sexes supporting him as well.

Clinton's gender isn't the only the reason she didn't win. I think there are many, but I do think it played a part.

I personally think that Hillary's irresponsible handling of her phone and email services while Secretary of State and the subsequent allegations of the destruction of thousands of classified files, the number of times that she was proven to be lying under oath before Congress, misuse of Clinton Foundation funds and the history of shady deals and sex scandals that both she and Bill have been linked to since even before he became Governor of Arkansas had quite a bit more to do with her losing than her sex.

3. The media is still very sexist. Just a small example, there was much trashing of her appearance than there was Trump's. Any comment about his appearance was just passed off as banter. His health or age was never called into question is another good example.

With he exception of Fox and a few others, the media has been so collectively in love with Hillary Clinton long before this campaign ever started. As for the comparative health of the two candidates, Trump never collapsed one single time, or ever had a coughing fit so bad that he had to excuse himself in the middle of an interview, and he made 3 or 4 times as many personal appearances than she had. Questioning her health would seem to be a valid point, considering the stress associated with the Presidency
