England's Floods

You beat me to it TT 🙂 I know that we have members in my neck of the woods, one of the badly affected areas(the county formerly known as Humberside 🙂)and I was going to ask if everyone was OK.
Take a look at the BBC news site HERE to see what has been happening across the country. It seems we received something between one and two months worth of rainfall in 24 hours and drainage systems were simply unable to cope.
Pointy Towers was not washed out but many of the roads around us were flooded, some to the point of being unpassable. This caused me to have a few worrisome driving moments on Monday and Mrs P's bus to and from work was seriously delayed a couple of times.
My office's ground floor was flooded...only to be expected, I work on a dock-side...but (un)fortunately 😉 my end of the building remains dry. The smell of soaked carpet is all-pervading, despite our best efforts to air out corridors and stairwells.
We weren't the worst hit area...certainly Hull, Worcestershire and the Sheffield/Rotherham area fared much worse...and, when all is said and done, we've had a couple of days of inconvenience. It's not like we've had a major earthquake or been hit by a hurricane...

Aw :) Well when i MOVE to stockholm at the end of the year, i plane to do more travelling, since i'll be closer to Europe. Maybe even come to a BBGB?
Hmm same things have been happening back home in Sydney in Aust, bad bad floods. Esp around Newcastle and hunter Valley, And North Western Sydney. I'm in England right now, but its not raining where I am.

That totally sucks! Hopefully everyone from BB that is in those areas and currently suffering through this is okay!
we had this two weeks before you guys. we managed to escape the major flooding, but we had to drive through it to get to work...it made the trip a lot more fun that it should have been! lol

There's now flooding around Gippsland in Victoria. Hopefully it won't be end up as badly damaged as Newcastle but they say that a couple of the weirs have already overflowed.
This kind of put my minor inconveniences in perspective -

I didn't even know this was happening until I caught a small article in yesterday's newspaper...of course our English floods are far more important...not!
OK...I'm sorry that four people died in the recent floods here and I'm upset for their families and a few hundred folks had to be evacuated but come on, these poor buggers in the Indian subcontinent seem to cop for it every couple of months in one way or another...

Oh wow I had no clue any of this was going on! It's been raining and flooding so much here and in Texas that that is all the news has been covering here (not like I watch much news though). It doesn't seem to be quite as bad here as it does in some other places, but something like 10 people have died from drowning in the last 2 weeks or so because of all the water. It's so strange that this is happenning all over the world at the same time!

it's so wierd. We/ve went from extreme drought and record setting heat last summer to one of the rainiest (sp ?) years ever with not one day over 95 degrees (farenheit) so far. wierd

Worcestershire...really? I live in Worcestershire and I heard nothing too bad.
Then again, my head is often in the clouds.
Yea, Worcester itself was washed out - the cricket ground, which is next to the river is going to be closed for a few weeks, costing Worcestershire CCC quite a lot in lost revenue as well as cleaning it up. Several of the other towns along the Severn were also flooded quite badly and featured on the national news a lot.
I thought you were a Brummy...or is that as big an insult to you as it would be to someone like me from Warwickshire? 😉

We had it bad here. I live in Hessle outside of Hull. The guy who died, died around the corner from my house. I got home at 3pm on Monday afternoon and had to abandon my car 3 streets away and walk home. The water was up to my knees, and when I got home my back garden was so flooded I could have swam in it.
The street in front of my house was a river! Literally!
My parents house flooded, they live on Astral Close which is the street the guy stuck in the drain died on! Hessle was a very sad place to live on Monday.
Luckily we weren't hit as bad as Sheffield and other places, although the threat is still here, especially in Hedon outside Hull!
I feel for all those who were hit badly by the floods it was bad enough around here and most of our houses weren't flooded. A garden is nothing. To lose most of your possessions must be awful!
My thoughts are with all those families trying to put their houses and lives back together!

Man, I'd take tornadoes any day compared to the rain. Something like 20 straight days and counting....I just hope it dries up by the 4th!

I actually live near enough exactly half way between Worcester and Brum. Sans accent...even a Kidderminster accent. I speak "posher" (as everyone says) than everyone else round here. Even my vocal chords thing I should move.
But yeah Worcester is always flooded. The racecourse is a swimming pool half the year round, and the cricket club is right by the river too.
And I was travelling through Warwick on the train the other day, just an FYI.
