Question English help needed (scouting, not Buffy)

What is the correct term for hoisting the flag to the top of the pole? @GoSpuffy , @OccaQuokka and others, my son is writing a presentation in English on his hobby. My scouting lingo is sorely lacking ...

Wish him good luck. I have forced every class I have taught to do oral presentations. They are always so nervous, but they always come out all right. Speaking to an audience is such an important skill to learn.

I would say raising the flag. If a group of guides/scouts are doing it they are called the colour party.

I'm pretty sure it was just raising the flag when I was a scout, not heard of it being a colour party!

Americans tend to refer to their flag as 'Their Nations Colours' so any group raising the American flag would therefore be a Colour party/Guard......Raising the Colours.
In Britain we normally refer to it as our National Flag, so we raise/hoist the Flag.....

Colour Party is more a militaristic term, but I have heard it used by other organisations.... 🙂

That is so weird But that also something Snyder would do just so he could use that as a excuse to yell at the Students 🙄

Ahh yes but if you had seen the film about Captain America you'd have seen him pull the pin to lay the flag pole on the ground. So hoisting the colours is not the done thing.
( what do pirates exclaim when they raise the Jolly Roger ) and if they shout hoist the colours do the enunciate the H in hoist or do they exclaim 'oist the colours! But I digress.
So what happens if the flag is put at the top of a pole that is flat on the ground, and how do you differentiate the male or female type of wood used to make a flagpole.
If you used male wood what facial expression would you adopt when you realise you didn't tie the flag on properly and you need to shove it up Mr. Pole, whatever, I get a smile but then I do have a weird sense of humour.

Looks like you got your answers 🙂 Yep, flag raising is a pretty good bet. We called it raising the flag at guides. We might say let's/go "fly the flag" as another example of aussie english.
