What? How would rance and Italy have more points?
If Romania loses, all teams have lost against the Netherlands, and played all of the other games draw. So shouldn't they have the same amount of points?
 
Oh wait! You're right. I mixed something up. Sorry! I think that Romania doesn't get an equal chance because they are not in a direct competion with another team that has the same amount of points. Technically they are the weaker team.
The game France vs. Italy is of higher importance because they are in a direct competion and there has to be made a decision about who is the better team of those two.

I should know this, it´s a bit embarrassing. I guess if all three teams end up with the same amount of points and goaldifference between themselves (and all has scored equal amount of goals) they look at the results against Netherlands. And I guess France have the upper hand against Italy considering they scored once. But if Romania only loses by one or two goals I think they´ll go through on better goaldifference. I really should look this up.

I reaaly hope I misunderstand you. Otherwise you must be kidding. Should their match don´t count because they meet the best team in the group last? No way! If there are no possible way to differ the three (or two) teams it all ends with lottery. But that´s an absolute last. Penalities between two teams then three are involved will never happen.

Now to todays match. Spain deserved to win, no question about it. But we played really well in a period of the first half. Nice to see. Then Zlatan had to be subsituted it was practically over. And you can´t imagine what a feeling it is to have him scoring again. The abuse he´s gotten. But having lost in the last minute of course feel a little sour.

I think you didn't understand me. I was just trying to make sense of this situation, because all the experts seem to be certain that there is only the possibility of penalties for Italy and France. Of course, I agree that is would be some kind of lottery, but I was trying to understand that.


Todays game was really good and I think Sweden was hard to play against. Unfortunatly they lost...But on the other side Spain had a lot of good chances...

I didn´t mean that penalties are a lottery. Well, they kind of are, but that´s not my point. I meant a literal lottery.

Don´t want to spend the whole evening looking for answers but found this on Wikipedia, and yes we all know it´s not 100% reliable.

Qualification

* The Netherlands have qualified for the quarter finals as Group C winners.

* Romania will advance if
o they beat the Netherlands,
o or they draw with the Netherlands, while Italy and France draw,
o or they lose to the Netherlands by a margin of 3 goals or less, but not 0"“3, while Italy and France play a 0"“0 draw.

* Italy will advance if
o they beat France, while Romania fail to beat the Netherlands,
o or they play a 1"“1 or higher draw with France, while Romania lose to the Netherlands,
o or they play a 0"“0 draw with France, while Romania lose to the Netherlands by a 0"“3 scoreline or by more than three goals. (If Romania lose 3-0 and Italy draw 0-0, Italy qualify on the basis of UEFA coefficients)

* France will advance if
o they beat Italy, while Romania fail to beat the Netherlands

I see either a holland portugal final
or Spain portugal final.

That was an amazing game. I´m ashamed to say that I left the tv after 2-0. I couldn´t believe I had to rush back 3 times! Today I´m looking forwrd to see Germany trash Austria. Why? I need points for my Euro2008-competion.



Schillaci: I would love to see Holland as winners but I´m afraid they peaked a little bit to early. I guess they had to considering their group, but I think they´ll pay the price. But I would gladly be wrong. Spain has a great team and although they have one of the worlds greatest goalkeepers, if not the best, I don´t think their defence is good enough.
 
Just finished watching the Germany Austria match and Austria played with some much energy and passion I feel sorry that they are leaving the tounrment but they had no potent finishing up front.

Now now now German members of the Buffy boards I suggest you get praying because your team is incredibly awful at the moment. You could only beat Austria 1-0 and it was a free kick oh my.

Will run rings around your defence and being a Arsenal fan I also know all too well how bad Lehman is as a keeper. Now im hoping with all my heart Germany lose because they are such a boring team to watch. I predict 2-0 to Portugal.

Well I kinda agree on Germany. Lol, we were discussing at my house just now, maybe if some not so well know German player somehow created an 'accident' involving Ronaldo...

Well, and I'm also curious about Russia/Sweden. Although I know that even if they do win, which is unlikely, they'll have to face the Netherlands next, so goodbye.
 
Leave Ronaldo alone. That hurts my bet of a Spain vs Portugal final. Green eyed monster from the German girl because Germany have no players with flare and outstanding skill.

A little more than a hour to kick-off. I´m surprisingly relaxed at the moment but that´ll all change as soon as the match starts. A draw (or a win of course) and we´re though to the next round to meet the Netherlands. That would be a good game in the sence that I wouldn´t mind losing to them. But if we beat them even better. But let´s not go ahead of ourselves. Getting that necissary point can prove to be more than easy.

And France lost yesterday. With that crappy coach they deserved it. And just so you know. I would love it, really love it if Germany beat Portugal.

Seems you´ll get your wish. They absolutely trash us. Man we play awful. Playing like this we don´t deserve to go through to the next round. If I wasn´t a swede I´ll probably say that the team is a disgrace. But it´s 45 minutes left. Hoping for improvement. I´ll get back to you on Portugal and explain why I don´t want them to win.

Yeah you better jusitfy the Portugal comment. Unlucky Kinslayer, look on the brightside Holand will trash Russia.
 
First todays game. We didn´t stand a chance. Russia through to the next round and deservingly so. They could have scored at least five times in the first 80 minutes of the game. In the last ten another 5 times. I hailed Hiddink before the tournament and I do so again. If you´re interested to know what I thought on Swedens´s chances just look at my first posts. The only good thing, Zlatan scored in the national team (despite being injured).


Now to Portugal. Let´s begin with the good things. Yes I do think there are good things as well.

* They do have some players I really like and and that counts in past sence too. I loved players like Figo and Rui Costa.
* The play an attractive kind of play (most of the time). And that´s ALWAYS good.

So why don´t I like them?

* The attitude. Sour (bad) losers to say the least. Look at Euro 2000 if you don´t know that I´m talking about. The game against France made me hate them.
* And it´s not like they show bad sportmanship only then losing. Bad behaviour all over the place every chance they get.
* Like many southern teams the players have a tendency to dive no matter what. Diving once or twice per game ok. But not all of the time. It bugs the hell out of me. I don´t think there are no team there the defenders dive as much as the attackers.

I do however admit that they might improved on these things so far in the Euros. I haven´t seen much of them. But things like that are hard to get rid of once you´ve made your mind up.

And finally. How can you wish success to a team consisting of players from (or soon to be) United, Barcelona and Chelsea! Come on, can there be a worse mix?


Germans on the other hand. They play, they win or lose and that´s it. In general terms of course. Exceptions exists in most places. But compared to Portugal, well they don´t even play in the same league sportmanshipwise.
