Film budgets are absolutely insane nowadays. Like $300 million+ noise festivals. Even Blumhouse’s Halloween was in the several million dollars budget wise. The original was $300,000.

Marvel is like the worst thing to happen to the film industry. Massive ballooned budgets that reap massive profits (or used to lmao), so now that’s all anybody tries to do

A lot of film genres are really difficult to, currently, do without a large budget. Horror is perhaps the main potential exception, even if corps are still blowing large amounts on some of them. Especially zombie flicks for independents. They seem to be popular because all you need is some people and some makeup! Science fiction or fantasy can be really difficult without a budget. Perhaps not impossible, but low-budget SF tends to look like low-budget SF!

They asked on the radio for listeners to suggest other board games to turn into films. Someone suggested The Game of Life. Which would, of course, need a certain line in it.

It's not just budget inflation that's tanking the movie industry, that's maybe one of six or seven causes and not even the biggest one. Lack of originality, poor quality writing, ideological saturation, DEI mandates...

Marvel didn't cause those to happen...well, Disney certainly helped though.

Mousetrap: Animated romp, obviously
Pop-Up Pirate: Action movie or porno, could go either way.
 
In all seriousness it could be awful news, or merely bad news, dependent on any details that emerge.

There is no good here, the current climate is incredibly toxic to IP revivals, reboots, 're-imagings', prequels, sequels and the like.
