Expanded Show Description

I'm fine with her dating the professor, at least in the beginning.
It's probably a situation where Tru's made a bad decision to get involved with a guy too old for her. The part where the professor is the ex-husband of the dean of the university is where I draw the line at the soap opera-ness.

After seeing how badly Faith & Wood were received on Buffy, I wonder how Tru & Evans are going to come off on screen. Evans is in his 30's, probably about Wood's age, and Faith seemed too young for him. But if they have cast some really hot 20 something actor to play Professor Mark Evans that looks good on screen with Eliza, does it make sense his ex-wife is old enough to be dean of a university?
 
so, what WAS she talking about when she said "shoulda been there?" I have the season on dvd and still don't get it. Whatever though, it looks amazing. I can't wait for Wrong Turn to come out. Although, I can't help wondering if Heroine might have been a better title for the show Tru Calling is nice, but it's not as endearing. you know what I mean? It sounds a little less serious. More like a rock group.
 
I have to agree with F_F... I think the dating the proffessor isn't that bad.... If he's hot, just let them.... BUt I hope that they're not gonna make it too dramatic, with marriage and stuff...... But you know just a little affair with the proffessor is nice.....
 
When something comes about and Eliza is in it, expect the unexpected. Personally, I won't asume anything, I will just ride it out.

Mostly all of the characters Eliza's played made wrong decisions and I think that's what shapes her. Some way or another, the show will be great if the actors and actresses want to make it great.

I'm right along with you guys when you say, "Can't wait to see it!" We will just have to tune in and see how it goes ;-).
 
Well maybe it's very silly of me..... but well every show.movie or even a play in a theather with eliza is fine by me.... well i love her act...
 
ok i need someone to be my tape fearie...please. I know we wopn't get firfly down here, i'm hoping that its released on dvd, but i don't want to miss this one too. please someone. SOS.
 
Hi guys I'm new and I just had to jump in here.
First off let me say how much I'm LOVING that Elisa is gonna have another show. I don't know if I could have done without some Whedonesque type stuff on t.v.

I do have two problems with Tru Calling though

1. It's not Faith The Vamprie Slayer (is it wrong that in the bottom of my heart I hope this falies so Elisa will do FTVS?) : angel :

2. It sounds a little too much like Early Edition, that show on CBS in the 90's, no doubt darker and hopefully not chessy and alot better but still...
 
I agree for now... but i stil haven't seen any of it so.... then i'll judge but for now yeah... it looks very alike
 
I've been trying to find out why the story lines sounded so fimilar from that point of view.

I don't know either if it'll be a rip off or not.....but I've seen the pilot and it didn't look like a rip off. It was pretty good.
 
I saw it just yesterday (and that calls himself a fan?? uhmm... yes) and it was really good!! no rip-off from my point-of view

I dunno... problem is that all shows nowadays with a female lead are overshadowed by Buffy. It's OK(ish) - but I wouldn't hold my breath. I think that it's pigeon-holed itself from the off because of the very nature of Tru's calling (no pun intended) - aren't we simply faced with Groundhog Day every single episode?

Let me guess. She'll always stop the crime (because otherwise it'll always be Monday...), she'll run around alot like a certain red-headed german & all the while we'll wish she'd said 'yes' to Joss and done the Faith spin-off.

Sorry if this is a little too negative! It just didn't inspire me though. Mind you, I saw the unaired version so maybe (?) they'll pull something out of the bag...

It won't be Tru stopping people from dying every episode. She'll try, however Eliza and producer Jon Feldman have both emphasized that she won't be saving everyone. Some people can't be saved or there's judgement calls. For example, if she saves one person, perhaps someone else dies. Eliza's also mentioned the idea of playing God- so maybe if the person she's saving deserves to die, what then? There's plenty of moral dilemas they could set up that could keep the show interesting.

I do see it as being kind of borrowing from a lot of shows and depending on what you've seen before, you might see it as predictable. Early Edition has dealt with all of the same ideas of preventing deaths and all of the crime dramas like CSI and Law & Order have the same kind of investigations and miss-leads. From what I've read of the first 2 episodes, they play out like a lot of CSI and Law & Order episodes. Those are popular shows, so maybe that's okay.

Trancentral hit the nail on the head with one of TC's problems and it's going to take really gifted writers make the show original when you have the same events repeating over again in the same episode. And how many episodes can they keep that going for without viewers getting bored of the patterns set up?
 
The show does sound great...just wondering how some people have seen the pilot already...test audiences?

Wish I had discovered this site sooner! Nice to see that this show is already building a strong fanbase before even hitting the air!! Hopefully this much interest will bode well for keeping the show on the air for a long time.

In regards to the more detailed synopsis of the show - I think the relationship with the prof might add a very interesting element. I've seen a few other shows where the student protagonist has dated their prof - it will be interesting to see how this relationship is developed in the context of everything else that happens in Tru's life.
