Spoiler! Extremely spoilery: Buffy #34 Soliciations.

Somewhere every spike fan girl in the world is vindicated, but ive still got this bizare image of david boreneaz crying in joss whedons lap in a cat like position and joss saying"Ssssssh pretty kitty,It'll all work out,Remember I created kennedy!". Which probably says something more screwed up about me than joss whedon. I dont get it,perhaps hes misdirection. Right? Please let me live in my safety bubble.

Dude, this is not making us Spike fan-girls happy AT ALL. This whole thing has nothing to do with who we 'ship. I'm so shocked about Buffy kissing Twilight (if it is indeed Angel) I'm too angry to be letting it affect my Spuffiness!

Angel is one of my favorite characters...why would Joss do this? I ask again...

A few months ago, I got my mother hooked on Buffy. I have all the DVD sets, and every time I go over to visit she wants to watch an episode. Her first interest in it came from the fact that she was a Bones fan, and likes David Boreanaz. Then she got hooked.

We're on season 3 now. I even got her a "What Would Buffy Do" t-shirt for Christmas. After this season, we were going to start alternating between watching Buffy and Angel... in the order they originally aired.

Now I don't know what to do. I know I never want to watch Angel again... this ruins it for me forever. Who wants to watch this clown's story, knowing what his ultimate choice will be? To hell with him. Literally. There isn't any twist that could excuse what he's done this time.

And I'm not too crazy about watching Buffy anymore, either, especially if she is once again going to make excuses to side with Angel as the covers suggest she will.

I was really enjoying re-watching the show with my mom, but I'll never be able to see it again without thinking of this. I don't know what to do. It's poisoned now.

Thanks, Joss. Thanks a lot. Happy New Year to you, too.

My mom loves Buffy and Angel, too.
After tonight's episode of Dollhouse, I officially have no more doubts about this storyline. Joss Whedon freaking rules. Are we allowed cuss?

I don't know if anyone else mentioned this, but I'm positive Buffy is being mind-controlled or similarly influenced to side with Twilight, if she is indeed siding with him. As for Angel, I trust that his heroism hasn't been forgotten. I'll make no judgements, personally, until I read the issues.

I honestly can not believe Joss would do this. What, is he a sadist?

If Joss is trying to alienate and majorly piss off his fandom, he has succeeded.

Is Joss a sadist? In a word, yes. Also cruel, diabolical, sadistic, and totally unconcerned with what his fans think should or should not be done with HIS characters.

Is he trying to alienate and piss off his fans? Not exactly. But he IS trying, and succeeding probably beyond his fondest dreams, in stirring up a very large tsunami of interest in what have become recently two fairly slow moving story lines. The fans are going to be standing at the doors of the comic book stores the moment that they open to buy the next few issues.

The cold hard truth is, Joss Whedon plays his fans shamelessly, manipulating them into doing exactly what he wants them to do, and what's even worse is that we know that he has done it before, and yet we become so upset and so shocked when he does it again.

Why do people put so much faith and trust in Whedon at this point? I used to feel that way but over the years, that's changed. He couldn't even remember the First Evil/Warren situation. Vamps are popular without any real explanation. Unless he's getting to that still.

All the negatives build up and season 8 is a little incoherent and messy and I have trouble believing it will all get sorted out and make perfect sense. The next issue out next week will hopefully be enjoyable, I want to be excited about these comics again.

With nothing else Buffy related out, this is all we have to continue our love of Buffy. But it's been reading like fan fiction. So frustrating.

I don't feel vindicated at all, instead I'm kinda worried that in his run as Twangel Spike might been killed already. The only hope it's not done already being those "spike/Spike" references.

I don't think that's going to come to pass.

A lot of casual readers might have bought issue #33 just out of curiosity to find out who Twilight was, but now they don't have to. That mystery is solved, for free.

Looking around on various Whedon and Buffy related sites, I'd say the general reactions are running about 70% negative (ranging from rage to derision), 20% WTF? and 10% positive. And the hardcore fans... the ones who go out and buy every issue every month... are much more likely to feel betrayed or disappointed or insulted by this development.

Joss has really created a challenge for himself here. He may not care what the fans think, but the fans do pay his royalty checks. I have no right to dictate to Joss how to tell his stories... he doesn't tell stories to order... but I do have the right to review his stories with my feet, if I find them crappy.

And right now, I've got the "crappy" sign sitting in the window.

I think that there will be quite a few fans who will buy the issues just on the hopes that somehow everything is gonna work out okay, and they don't wanta miss it when it does. Which it almost certainly will.
Andrew, just wondering, who were you hoping for Twilight to be?

I wasn't hoping for anyone specifically. Someone who made sense would have been nice.

I thought it was going to be someone from the future... either Giles or Xander, with an explanation of what happened between now and then to cause this.

But really, how is this any different than expecting the Bangel shippers to quit reading if Buffy were to tell Angel that she's sorry, but Spike's the man for her. If Twilight turned out to be Giles, or Xander, should everyone who loves that particular character abandon the story? People loved Jenny, Joyce, Tara, and Anya, and were shocked when they died. They loved Doyle, Wes, Cordy, and even Darla. They all died, and all of their fans regretted it, but as far as I know, there wasn't any significant loss of fans any of them died.

We all know that Angel has his own series, published by a rival company, and we also know that IDW isn't gonna end it, so the chances are about as close to certain as they can be that either Angel is NOT ultimately going to either die OR become truly evil at Dark Horse. Not the REAL Angel. So it's either some sort of a doppelganger, or he will be somehow redeemed, restored, and set back on the path of good in time to star in the next issue of his own magazine.

This is, as I said earlier, just Joss playing dirty with his fans for no reason whatsoever other than that he can do it and get away with it.

I agree wholeheartedly, but that makes me wonder if this storyline is worth it if we know Angel will be redeemed somehow. Hmm...
I've been thinking about this and I don't think it is necessarily the "Buffyverse Apocalypse" .

The theme of this arc is Superheroes and in the soliciation it says two titans come together not collide. I am at least 80% certain that Buffy and Angel will unite as the good guys in this whole thing. It just does not add up for them to be anything else. Joss is sadistic but he isn't suicidal. These two characters specifically are the reason we have this verse as it stands. If you take Buffy and Angel out of this verse or invert them, the whole thing crumbles.

The more Darkhorse promote this thing the more I think this was exactly what was meant to happen. Rarely do the two covers appear at the same time, but they did with this issue. Moreover, the fact that the TPB cover was ready to go and released on top of the two other covers only solidifies my belief that this was no accident.

How long have we (me included) been saying that we are bored with the comic? That we don't care who Twilight is anymore?

Well, now we care.

I'm going out on a limb and saying that Buffy and Angel will remain the Champions of our verse. I can't back it up with anything other than Giles' line from 'The Wish',

Because they have to be.

My belief in these characters is gona be my downfall and I know it.

🙁

Has anybody posted this one yet where Scott Allie is interviewed on the background of Angel being Twilight.

Behind Buffys Twilight Reveal - Comic Book Resources

It's worth a read, if you haven't seen it.

Has this image been posted yet from the article.

He said Joss knew Twilight was going to be Angel for 4 years.
Personally I think it's waaaay to early to be upset.
I'll just follow the story and decide if I like it or not when I know the how's and why's.

Well, this MAY tie in with what's beginning to happen in Angel #28, despite the time difference between the two series (which I'm beginning to think is gonna cause some problems before this cluster**** plays out. In the meantime, I'm just gonna sit back, have a cold Dr Pepper, and watch the new season of "Burn Notice." There might even be popcorn involved eventually.

I think this is going to be a big punch in the face for me. And it's gonna hurt 🙁

If it's any consolation, I felt absolutely betrayed when they killed Spock at the end of "The Wrath Of Khan," and that worked out okay.
