In keeping with the vein of this thread I want to make mention of COA's where Props from Buffy are concerned.
I recently found out that the WB Network NEVER issued any Buffy COA's, so...if you are looking at buying a prop that you think is from Buffy and it comes with a COA from WB...you know it's a fake.
In the case of this knife, the seller was originally posting a single picture of it that only showed one side of the blade and mentioning that it came with a COA which say's that it was "screen-used" by Eliza Dushku. In looking at the knife itself it's a fairly simple matter to identify that it's a "Knock-off" from China and NOT a genuine Jackal (which is what was used on Buffy)
The first give-away that it's a Chinese fake (and there are at least TWO different fakes out of China of this knife) are the markings on the blade (if it say's "Made in China"...FAKE) should include the name: Gil Hibben and the word Jackal.
The Second big giveaway that the sale of this knife as "Screen-Used" was a CON was the fact that when I asked for a pic of the COA and received it...there was a BIG WB Logo right in the middle of it! Case closed.
The real problem with COA's is that they are so easy to fake and Fan's of Buffy and Angel who collect props WANT the prop they have found to be a screen-used one. In essence, the seller who knowingly sells a fake as "Screen-used" is telling the buyer exactly what they want to hear. It's up to the buyer to know what to look for in both the prop AND the COA.
One last point here and then I'll shut up:
A COA is really only as good as the seller is willing to make it.
Case in point- The Prop Store treats their COA's like receipts and money back guarantee's. If I own a prop that they have issued a COA for, I can at anytime return that Prop and COA for a full cash refund on my investment. OR in the case of my last prop from them, I did a one to one trade with them and they resold the prop I returned.
