I realised after a couple of emails going back and forth between my dad and I that even 16,000km away, he's still got that ability to make me cringe by trying to word some sort of life lesson that I don't understand or him taking something I've said in the wrong context.
Don't get me wrong, most of the time I get along famously with my dad. Oddly enough it's getting better either the older I get, or the further I move away. I love him to death, but I think I've reached the conclusion there's always going to be something that we get on each other's nerves about. For me, it's the philisophical life talks....I appreciate that what he's trying to tell me, but it never fails to make me prickly...like I get the feeling he thinks I can't work it out on my own.
So I guess I'm curious and having one of those moments...what do you love about your family members? What drives you completely mental about them? Do you think you'll ever just always get along and get over it and the like or is it all just a part of the family experience?
