Fanfic -The Great Bangel/Spuffy Fic Swap

So I am a long way behind everyone, but have finally finished 'Phoenix Burning' and really liked it once I got into its rhythm. I liked all the new made up characters, Angel and Buffy seemed sweet and realistic together, I appreciated that Angel regretted Spike's death as I always for some reason imagine them as a lot closer than they ever are shown in the telly show, or comics. I was expecting Willow to turn up as I imagined a mega powerful wicca couldn't just disappear without the council of anyone knowing what had happened to her, but obviously I was wrong.

So in another month or two I might have caught up ready to comment on the other recommended fanfics 🙂

Yeah at first read I found the whole “I can’t remember what happened to Willow” thing really odd. Idk what the writer’s intent was there. Maybe it was like Buffy imagined Willow just disappearing into a fog. Some lives just fade away without leaving a mark? It felt unfinished a bit but i think it was intentional.

Willow seemed like an odd character to just fade away though as she's so powerful, Xander disappearing would have made more sense. Maybe the author just didn't know what to do with Willow. I liked the stories she made up for Wesley and Cordy though with their families and guiding the council, better than they got in canon!

Yeah, my impression was that the author thought it would be unrealistic if Angel remembered what happened to everyone, and she didn't want it to be Xander who disappeared because she liked that bit she put in about Anya and David Nabbit. So it was Willow who ended up in the fog. Also, she was writing after Season 5 (the story was originally published in the summer of 2001), and Willow was certainly powerful, but she hadn't brought anyone back from the dead, gotten addicted to magic, tried to end the world or changed the world with the slayer spell. So it might not have seemed so weird to imagine her fading away.

I was glad that Wesley, Cordelia and Gunn all got to live and have kids. 🙂

And nice that Angel still had pics of them and felt attached to them after so many centuries. I guess you're right that Willow was probably a bit more reasonably powered with her mojo after season 5. There was the nice touch that Buffy and Angel both feel sad about Spike dying though even if it is before his soul.
