I'm not trying to cover all things Harry Potter related in this but it may steam a little conversation of things to come. In the next few months my wife and I are making the trip to Orlando to visit the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Have any of you guys made it? Pros/Cons? Things to make sure I see? Tips, hints? Etc??

Plus, with movie on the horizon (freakin fall of 2016).. I figured any news could be posted here unless this thread gets lost, lol. I haven't read the novel released of Fantastic Beasts, but I do know of its existence through the books/movies. Have you guys read it? Plus, any rumors or cast, plot, etc??
 
I'd love to visit the Wizarding World of HP! Probably will be a while before that happens though, but I'm curious to also hear about what other people thought of it.

As for the movie, I'm super excited! JK Rowling did say that it would be nothing like HP, but instead a complete different story that simply happens to take part in the same universe as HP. Either way, the book was awesome and I think there's a lot of potential to make a great series there. Unfortunately I think the movie might be getting some bad press from people thinking this is just JKR milking the series, or from people wanting a continuation to HP and getting something entirely different (ala Hobbit vs LOTR). I'm also curious that filming hasn't started and actors aren't confirmed yet? A 2016 release seems fairly close. Anyhow, I'll be looking forward to it!

Now all that's missing is a mini-series on the tales of Beedle the Bard 😀
 
I would love to go to the HP Wizarding World, planning on going to the london studio tour though.

I've read the book and not sure how it's going to be adapted to a movie, the book basically just names the beast and has a description about each, where as I think the movie is going to be based in New York in 1920s
 
Yes, I have the book of Fantastic Beasts, it's just a mock-up of the text-book mentioned in the novels, but with a few additions. The film will be about Newt Scamander, the wizard who compiled the text book. It is little more than an attempt to open your wallet and suck out the money, in fact the one thing it is besides a cash-vacuum is a test of demand ahead of further movies based on peripheral elements and then a return to Harry Potter's storyline. Expect two further films in the vein of Fantastic Beasts and then a Harry Potter movie some time in the mid-2020s, possibly a year or two after a hastily-composed novel whose distinguishing feature will be that it feels more like a novelisation of a movie than a properly thought out story in its own right. Expect Ron to die, leading Ginny to blame Harry for his death, leading to a separation and finally to Harry and Hermione ending up together. YHIHF.

I'm never letting one penny of mine go to any Harry Potter-related event or attraction, everyone involved in making the films (apart from the actors, who did the best they could) is on my mortal enemies list and I ever meat JKR, I shall slap her in the face with my copy of the Philosopher's Stone, which I keep handy at all times for such an eventuality.
 
Well.. the movie is rumored to be part of a series, so there may well be more than just the one planned. As far as a new Potter movie, there has been the Quidditch world cup this year that mentioned Harry and co, plus the short prequel story about James and Sirius.

If we were talking about another series, I might be inclined to agree with you. But in this case I completely disagree. I don't know if you fallow JK Rowling much, but money is the farthest thing from her mind when it comes to HP. Which is not surprising because the woman has enough money to live the rest of her life without writing a single word ever again. In fact, she's now taken to writing series under a different name because she wants people to enjoy her stories for her stories, not because of her name. If we ever get a return to HP, it will 100% be fan service and because JKR loves the characters and the story, not a money grab. The best example of this is that she writes for Pottermore, which is completely free. She returned to the series because she loved it, not because she wants money. At least that's my opinion on it.

Honestly, I'm not sure why you read the books if you hate her so much.
 
I don't hate her, I'm a fan of her work, I just loathe what has happened to her books, they were raped by the film industry.
Warner Bros. is the entity I blame most for the ruining of not only one series of books but many others too (since the success of the Potter films, there's been an explosion in the number of YA books adapted into movies and it's often done poorly).
I don't hate her, I just think she's done and said things that show a lack of respect for her own work and fans of it and any future work that happens on Harry Potter in any form will be mostly for the money.
 
Fair enough. I don't blame HP for what happened to the YA movie industry, I actually love the HP adaptations. I also love quite a few other YA movies so I think we just have very different views on the matter.

As for the money, again I don't think it is done for the money, but even if it was, as long as they give me quality stuff I don't care. Why would a good story need to be stopped because someone said there was too many movies, as long as they put out high quality material there is no such thing as milking a series. If you're able to create a good story, than I will want to see it. If you don't think it's good quality stuff, than it's okay to just ignore it and not see it too.
 
Yeah, that's where the problem is for me. I found the movies to be poor and the idea of going back to them, though it is practically inevitable, leaves a bad taste in my mouth. If I had found the films watchable, I'd obviously have no problem with any of it (although I might still have found some of Rowling's recent comments on the series questionable).
 
I actually worked as part of the crew on Azkaban and Goblet and my experience of the whole thing was that I thought the movies had a lot of care/love lavished on them every step of the way.

I don't doubt that at all. Everything is somebody's baby, but there are far more ugly babies out there then a poll of the world's parents would reveal.

I was part of the creature shop. I was a painter mainly, but helped fur and feather when needed. They were bloody long days, but I loved it. D:
 
Some parts of the movies I did feel deviated too far from the books, but I'm sure people feel that with every book to movie conversion.
 
Anyone see the tweet from JKR? People think she just cryptically revealed a new Harry Potter project. Am I ... am I psychic? You may disagree with me on some of my views on the Potterverse and I may have been a couple of years out with my prediction but I think I'm psychic. Trelawny ain't got shit on me.

According to this, there will be 3 fantastic beasts movies one in 2016, 2018 and 2020!

The Studio will release three pictures, in 2016, 2018 and 2020, based on best-selling author J.K. Rowling’s original story and screenwriting debut, “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.” Set in an extension of her familiar wizarding world, featuring magical creatures and characters inspired by Harry Potter’s Hogwarts textbook and its fictitious author, Newt Scamander, “Fantastic Beasts” will be directed by David Yates, who directed the last four Harry Potter movies, and reunite the filmmaking team of David Heyman, J.K. Rowling, Steve Kloves and Lionel Wigram.

I actually can not wait for this movie. I am a huge HP fan and love the books and movies. I have every intention of going to the park when i can.

To still a scoobie: remember, JK wrote these books without a penny to her name, on the back of a napkin! i dont think money has anything to do with anything. She writes these books and helps on the movies because she loves it.
