Favorite characters' screw ups

Wes paid many a price for his mistakes. He certainly didn't get off scot free from anything he did. The love of his life literally suffered and died in his arms , and Gunn is partially to blame. I don't see why so many people condemn Wesley for what he did. Many other characters have done worse for less of a reason.
Pfff! I am completely unmoved. Wes should have stuck with Lilah and stopped pining over girls half his age.

I am pretty biased though to be fair. I tend to prefer Wesley much more than I like Gunn, and I have a soft spot for vigilantes. 🙂

Wesley's love for Fred doesn't entitle him to be a vigilante and go after anyone who remotely hurts her

I do agree that Wesley wasn`t right to stab Gunn. He is judge, jury and executioner in one person. And this isn`t the only occasion where he takes the law into his own hands.

However, I like the suffering and love that make Wesley act like he did. And I still think, Gunn deserved it !

What does Wes deserve for his mistakes?

Well, maybe being killed by an evil sorcere and dying in the arms of a demon, pretending to be the love of his life......

@Carrie Hopewell i think Gunn did deserve it to be honest. He cared more about staying a genius than who might get hurt as a result. I felt like Gunns transformation that season was extremely disappointing, he gave up his soul almost immediately at Woflram and Hart, and to me it seemed OoC. Fred's death was a direct result of a action he took, and then he concealed it when he found out. I understand completely Wes stabbing him, just as I understand Angel trying to suffocate Wes.

The same can be said that Willows love for Tara doesn't entitle her to kill Warren, or Angels love for Connor doesn't entitle him to attempt to kill Wes, or Bufffys love for Angel doesn't entitle her to kill Faith. Everyone on these shows are guilty.

Yeah and they're all wrong for taking the law into their own hands, including Wesley. I also don't see much guilt from him for stabbing Gunn. When Angel confronts him he's just like "I missed all the major arteries. He'll probably live."
It's also funny how Wesley obviously didn't think that he deserved to be killed by Angel for taking Connor, but yet when Gunn indirectly does something to Fred, it's okay for the upset person to bring their own revenge. I don't think it was justified at all.

Spike holding Buffy hostage in his crypt in "Crush" and threatening to kill her unless she told him she had some sort of feelings for him. Pretty much all of the obsessive stuff he did towards Buffy and the way he acted towards her in season six. Angel firing the AI team in season two of Angel and letting all those people die in the cellar. Willow erasing Tara's memories and almost getting Dawn killed when she was driving. Faith continuing to be evil after she woke up from her coma even though people like Buffy and Wesley were willing to give Faith another chance. That's all I can think of for now off the top of my head.

We can agree to disagree 🙂 I think it was justified and I loved it from a story angle. I also think Wesley understood what Angel did to him...he is the one who took time to find and rescue Angel, and feed him his blood. He tried in his own way to make amends for stealing Connor. In real life, I would agree with
You. We can't have people just taking the law into their own hands and stabbing people. I do love that passion though on the show 🙂

Okay fair enough 🙂

For some reason I only believe Wes+Fred after Fred is dead. All the scenes with Wes and Illyria are great.

@GraceK and @flow Gunn was stabbed in the gut! No one deserves that unless you believe in corporal punishment (which I don't, especially of a good person). Wes acted on grief and I can understand that but who gives him the right to go around stabbing people just because they made mistakes? Wes made many mistakes himself and he was forgiven.

Gunn signed something without knowing what it was. He is as guilty as Angel who got them into W&H, and as guilty as the rest of them who decided to go into W&H. The only person that is truly guilty is Knox. Knox deserved jail and maybe Gunn too. The price that Gunn paid was not fitting of the crime imo.

Didn't it turn out that Gunn had once sold his soul for a car or truck earlier in the series but Angel got him out of it??!

Gunn always had a huge chip on his shoulder and his willingness to bargain himself away to become something he thought would be more significant, more respected was an interesting continuation of this I thought. The desperation to not lose it also worked then imo. But all of what was happening with Gunn should have had more screen time. Perhaps if the network hadn't insisted on Spike being forced into every episode in the season (or so I heard, not having been in fandom at the time) then there would have been more time to properly explore the culmination of a main character's arc that had been building to this for years. :s I would have merrily traded away Why We Fight for a Gunn-focused episode. 🙂

I agree. Gunn deserved more focus.

Valid points. I guess I just didn't like Gunn on season5. I missed the old Gunn, who WOULD never have cared more about being a lawyer than an innocent. He admitted he knew someone would get hurt, he just didn't think it would be Fred. I liked him more after she died and he spent time in that hellworld being tortured. He seemed like the Gunn I loved again.

Like I said earlier in another post, I personally am on Wesley's side in that situation. Real life? No... but I LOVED it on the show 🙂

Another one that bugs me::

Pretty much all Angel Investigations in season 4. How did NO ONE pick up on Fake Cordy?? It makes me question just how much they supposedly knew her if they didn't realize she was out of character. Especially Angel, her so called bestest friend and love.

I get that. I prefer the old Gunn too.
I wouldn't call Fred's death a punishment for Wesley's crimes. It had nothing to do with Wesley kidnapping Connor or keeping a girl in his closet... Fred's death was unfortunate, but it wasn't a punishment. Wesley was punished by his friends abandoning him and taking Angel's side in S3.

Wes should have stuck with Lilah and stopped pining over girls half his age.

Is Fred really half Wesley's age?

I am exaggerating for effect. Fred did complain Wes was overbearing and condescending, though, which she was a 100 % right to do.

Wesley isn't really above dating younger girls - his attraction to Cordelia in S3. Cordelia is younger than Fred, but she looks older (that does happen in real life. My sister is three years younger than me, but she started to look older after puberty).

2 for me, for me (meaning opinionated):
1) Faith jails herself in an institution where she can break out of, and has done so in Angel. Why? How does a false prison help her? Especially over staying on Angel's team in the Angel television show? So, THE Slayer is put on the shelf for whatever reason (whether it be actress/creative issue). In an institution which has no way in aiding the young, super powered, mentally ill, woman's mental health....WHAT?! This is the best we get for one of the key, if not THE key players/reasons why S3 can easily be called the best season of Buffy? (along with S2, at least from the polls that I've looked over. Yes I think Faith and the issues/fallout from her character, coupled with the Mayor, is the reason why S3 is so great.) I can understand if you need to shelve Faith, but the way she was put on the bench is stupid.

2) Spike's character in it's totality is the stupidest fan service 'good guy', or 'baby face' turn i have ever seen. Goes from a cool badass, a soulless 'monster' who plays by his own rules, to a Slayer/human's bi-- you know what. For some reason, a vampire without a soul is chasing Slayer tail. Not to only get in her pants, and i say that to romanticize that idea, but to eventually be in a relationship with her. Even to go so far as to seek out a soul. Why? Spike's character change/development turns me off to his character completely, in Buffy anyways. In Angel, whether you think i'm wrong or not, i treated him as a separate entity/being/character from the Buffy show. I've seen many arguments for why Spike is different, and have been shows examples of why his character development is possible/acceptable. And i. don't. care. I still find the idea and process of how Spike went from evil to good, stupid and a complete fan service.

Again, just an opinion of a an average Joe. Put the stones down.
cheers

Agreed on both counts. I preferred Spike when he was a badass in season 2,3 and 4 of Buffy. I dislike what they did to him in order to make Spuffy work. In fact I dislike what they did to Buffy in order to make Spuffy happen. If two characters have to be twisted that much in order for them to end up as a ship, then that ship shouldn't happen because it's not a natural progression.

Faith could've been used more than she was and it would've actually have made more sense for her to be the crossover character from Buffy than Cordelia. I think the only reason Willow crossed over to Angel every now and again would've probably been because AH was visiting AD on set. If Cordelia had no money, how did she afford to move to LA. She had to work to be able to afford a prom dress yet she could afford an LA apartment despite a floundering acting career.

Gives me the warm fuzzies to see people agreeing with me for once.
I actually thought about how Cordy went to LA one day. (As i have to think of how most things could have happened, becuase of the lack of attention to the details in episodes) Came to the conclusion that her dad or parents gave her money and sent her away to avoid the IRS. Since her dad was caught for tax evasion

But that was the reason why Cordy was working to buy the prom dress in the first place. The IRS caught up with them and she then had no money. Don't think she would've gotten a job if she still had a stash of money to get by on.
