How did they get from one side of the town to the other on foot so quick all the time?

Why were there hardly any kids from school in the library? Or not notice the weird stuff happening in there and be freaked out by it? Or ever wonder why Buffy and the Scooby gang hung out there ALL the time?

These are kinda covered, you get that gag when Xander picks on Jonathan for being in the library. If I remember most of the weird stuff tends to take place after school hours. Would they really notice that the Scoobies are always there, when their not😀

How did a one Starbucks town have an international airport, and international shipping facility, and an army base with high level munitions?

In more ways than one!

Damn! A sort of friend, loves friends, and Buffy too. Not sure if I should point this out to her...

I still don't get that one starbucks town thing. Like having more than one starbucks is a marker for being meaniful😱

Also - how did Giles manage to have an extensive library of demonology and witchcraft in a high school library without a single book being taken by a student, or a single complaint from a parent?

Because the students hardly ever visited the library, and because they weren't being taught anything to do with that stuff, so would not need any of those sorts of books.

@bespangeled that Xander line is one of the best!😛

Why would parents send their kids to Sunnydale High? At the end of season three, Jonathan said that their graduating year had the least amount of deaths in Sunnydale High's history. Why would you send your kid there??

Also in the episode of The Wish, they have a monthly memorial service for students killed- why wouldn't they have that in the normal world? Seem appropriate with the death rate and all.

How did Joyce even afford the house? And how did she sell antiquities - cases of ancient Greek amphorae - what sort of gallery was that?

We are told (when Buffy goes to the bank for a loan in "Flooded"):

MR. SAVITSKY
Ms. Summers, the only collateral you have
is your house, which was never fully
leveraged, and has been losing equity
over the last several years. For some
reason, Sunnydale property values
have never been competitive
, and
re-financing's out of the question...

The proceeds for the house would have come from asset splitting after the divorce and half an L.A. house should be able to buy a Sunnydale house.

The sale of antiquities has been a big business for years with some people using it as a money-laundering scheme. A lot of antiquities are stolen in war zones (the Nigerian mask of Ovu Mobani / Evil Eye that brings people back to life in Dead Man's Party would be probable) and sold as grey market items. Or do you think someone would have willingly given up these items? Of course, I'm not one to preach:

This is a Zambian drum of completely primitive manufacture. It is about 9 inches in diameter by 14 inches high as shown by Toby:

It uses wooden pegs to hold the drum skin in position. The wood is soft enough to dent the end grain with a thumbnail:

The white fur patch is the best spot on the drum to get good sound. The fur has not been removed from the skin. The rear of the drum is not as decorative:

"Remember 'Chosen'? It did sink into the earth." Yep. That was the joke.
To be fair no one really used our high school library except the group of us that hung out in there. It was used more during lesson time than during the rest of the time.

our high school library was basically a dead zone too. The could have run a drug and prostitution ring out of it and no one would have noticed. I was only ever in there because I had a gig changing out the magazines and filing library cards a few times a week.

Summer's family finances was another puppet the writers used, it was an issue when they wanted it to be and not an issue the rest of the time.

That's basically industry standard. Considering that how to pay the bills is the biggest challenge in most people's lives, if it actually had to be addressed at a realistic level there would be little time left for the rest of the story

It's an area where viewers nearly always need to suspend disbelief. Also how the house keeps getting repaired etc.

I'm glad we don't have to deal with it as a constant throbbing issue, and I'm glad that we have discussions like this to suss it out.

Do we know what Hank does for a living?

And who is the "we" Joyce talks about when she refers to the gallery?

And clearly, living in SD she was doing a lot of trafficking in antiquities associated with the supernatural. All those talismans, urns, amulets etc. She might not have known that at the get go, and maybe she remained blissfully ignorant, but that MUST be the answer.

That being said, I don't understand how Anya didn't do something dastardly to under cut Joyce's business because magic antiquities would have been lucrative for the Magic Box and Anya knew all about that stuff.

Bad guys will pay a lot of money for mojo, Joyce could have been rolling it in if she realized the dark possibilities.

another mind bender, is chipped Spike drinking pig's blood. Blood coagulates upon contact with air and basically turns into a liver like consistency pretty quickly. Sometime's it's used coagulated in cooking, other times vinegar is mixed in to keep it liquid. So...no wonder he complained about the taste, if it indeed had vinegar mixed into it.

Also on the tunnels beneath Sunnydale...in a place prone to earthquakes, how are they all not collapsed?
When Dick made Sunnydale he constructed them with mystical energies as he knew he needed a way for his vampire horde to move around in the daylight and assemble.
