Favorite Non Joss Fictional Characters

I like a lot of the characters that Ursula LeGuin has developed, but especially those in the Gifts, Powers, Voices trilogy. It's not that an individual stands out but the way we get to understand and live the cast of characters.

In the movie "Jane Austin Book Club" the male lead keeps trying to get his love interest to read Ursula LeGuin books. (Which she finally does). It's always made me want to read her books.
Off the top of my head, three of my favorites are Lyra Belacqua (from the His Dark Materials trilogy), Enid Coleslaw (from the Ghost World graphic novel, though I prefer the character in the film adaptation) and Han Solo (from the original Star Wars trilogy). The only fictional character that I like and can somewhat relate to is Kyon from the Haruhi Suzumiya book and anime series.

I love Lyra
Right now, Harry, Draco, Ron, Hermione, Neville, Lupin, Sirius, Fred and George, Dobby and others from Harry Potter. Not Ginny, though. 😀

Also, Sam and Dean Winchester, Castiel, Veronica Mars, Logan Echolls, Patrick Jane, Barney Stinson and many, many more.

Wow, so many. Sometimes I think I feel more for my favorite fictional characters as I do regular people in my life, lol.

Currently, I'm watching Mad Men on DVD. What a terriffic show.

There's a character named Betty Draper, who's the wife of the main character, and I'm very intruiged by her. There's a wistfullness to her, but also a child-like nativity I find really interesting. Somewhere in the first season she says something to the effect that what is she supposed to do? Smoke ciggarettes and let it go until she's put into a box, and I totally understand where she's coming from. She's a textbook definition of the 1950s housewife, trapped and living in her husbands shadow. Very interesting stuff. I feel for her.

My favorite ficitonal character of all time is Spike. Seriously, hands down. But really, fictional characters are my life. I'm fascinated by characters.
