Hey guys, so I just recently got into this whole podcast-frenzy (I know, I'm showing my age) but I'm having a hard time figuring out what I want to give a try. And so I thought I'd ask you guys for some recommendations; a possible link (or just a name) and then a summary and reason why you enjoy/follow this podcast. It would be greatly appreciated 🙂

I accept both Buffyverse and non-Buffyverse recs 😀

Recommended Buffyverse Podcasts

Check out that thread... for all of my grips and moans re buffyverse related podcasts.

Non-Buffyverse related:

Most of my Buffyverse related podcasts are non-show related.

I liked Serial (season 1 season 2 was horrible).
I love Radiolab and This American Life
I like the Ted Radio Hour
I like Criminal

The only podcast I listen to is Entitled Opinions hosted by Robert Harrison, but I am obsessive over it. It is a lit and philosophy podcast, and it kicks serious ass. Check it.

I mentioned a few of these ones on my Scooby Spotlight thread,
X files files podcast (If you don't feel like rwatching the X files you will while listening)
TVGuidanceCounselor (Public figures discuss what they watched, Buffy shows up all the time, take a search, Nicholas Brendon interviewed)
Risk! (Live storytelling, funny, raunchy, often heartfelt)
Live From Salt Lake City!
Savage love cast (Leading sex advice columnist answering callers sex and relationship questions)
Sewers Of Paris (Notable gay men discuss biggest pop culture influences, Buffy shows up a lot, Buffy/Angel writer Drew Greenberg did one)

Politics I listen to
Chapo Trap House
The Fifth Column
Blabbermouth podcast

@Meliza I love the X-Files! That blog sounds fun.

Also, compliments for Savage Love. That guy is amazing

It is really great, Kumail also host Indoor kids with his wife and I'm not a video gamer at all but I love Emily Gordon
Do you like true crime? My favourite TC Podcast is Generation Why. It's just two guys, Justin and Aaron talking through a case. They aren't stupid, there's no laughter or innapropriate behaviour, they sound like they do their research. They give their opinions but they always sound really open to other opinions. Anyway, they're great.

I only listen to a podcast done by some old friends of mine. It's called The Verbal Ramblers and you can find it on sound cloud and probably iTunes or wherever else podcasts tend to be.

It's essentially 4 friends talking about anything and everything. Politics, music, science, games, pet hates, good news, whatever come up really. Obviously I'm biased but I've really enjoyed it and always looked forward to a new episode. They've been away for a little while, so the politics talk will be a few months old now.

I just started Dusted-it's a Buffy podcast where a couple review each episode, discuss mythology and philosophy in the show, and touch on some points I hadn't considered before. It's pretty enjoyable, though the episodes are long.

I'm only into S2 of their Buffy discussion-but fair warning, apparently the couple are divorcing and so the show is continuing in a different format somewhere are around S6. Bit of a bummer!

Yeah if you see the thread I posted above we discuss this podcast. Lani splits off and does YouTube vlogs that pick up where Dusted left off. It’s called Still Pretty. I don’t think it’s nearly as good as when it was her and her then husband but then again I’m not a Spike fan girl so I’m not the post Dusted target audience.

Dusted was great though I enjoyed it.

Apart from all the Buffy ones I listen to....😛

I just finished S-Town and before that Serial S1. Started Serial S2 but it's not as good as S1 for sure. Would love any recommendations for similar true crime story podcasts. I love the investigations.
I'm listening to Crazy Ex-Girlfans while watching Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and that's a fun podcast but obviously it helps if you watch the show 😉
Hey Do You Remember? is good fun. They review old movies they loved as kids and see if they hold up.
Other than that it's mainly radio show podcasts. 🙂

Lani has her own vlog/podcast now, Still Pretty, and it's okay, and quite short. Alistair on Dusted always annoyed me, he wasn't as funny as he thought he was and he always interrupted Lani.

Oh S-Town was interesting!

The podcast “criminal” is not episodic as they are just one shots and it’s hit or miss but some good true crime stuff there. I’ve yet to find something on par with Serial S1.

Yeah I was going to mention that, but that's our special thing!

I enjoy their discussions as a duo but I totally see where you're coming from. There are many moments when I think this and wish he would not cut Lani off. But when they have the right flow, their discussions are really good! I'll be interested to see Lani on her own when I get there!

The more they do it, the less I am a fan of the live episodes of Buffering.

I feel bad for saying this because they really seem to enjoy doing those episodes and I get why but they’re not that fun to listen to and tend to even irritate me because of the shouting and off-topic conversations.

It’s rather chaotic I’m glad they are few and far between.
The only one I really listen to is Dr Karl. Its more of a talkback show though, people ring up with science questions and he translates the answers into non-scientist speak. I love how much he doesnt know and when he says how science was wrong 3 years ago and now we know more. He is humble and a lot of fun to listen to.

That Ira dude was awful. He hated everything. As far as live episodes in general, all the worst episodes are live episodes. (Reptile Boy, Killed by Death, Dead Man's Party, Revelations) I'm not sure why they do that, but I feel like that may be a factor. I do think Band Candy was one of the best ones they've done overall, while this live one with Revelations was one of the worst.

Revealations is a great episode :-)

I didn't think he was that awful because it really is an episode where a lot of characters are unlikable but when they invited him for a future podcast and asked him what his favorite episode of season 3 was and he replied The Prom and added that he has tons to say about some people not being deserving of awards I got a bit anxious... Now all I can hope for is that the guy isn't going to ruin that podcast episode by bashing my favorite scene in all buffyverse. We'll see...

Speaking of podcast people hating on characters... I am having trouble with Rewatchable at the moment. I find one of the newbies hatred towards Buffy a bit aggressive. I'm not saying they don't have a good reason (or making good points about her flaws) but I wish they'd tone it down and wouldn't call her a bitch.

Also, HEY! I love Reptile Boy!! 🙂

Same about the Prom. It's not my favorite scene in the verse but it's up there. How could he possibly think she doesn't deserve an award? I was about to jump out of my car when he said that.
As far as Reptile Boy, I read your post in unpopular opinions shortly after I posted this and I laughed at myself for calling it terrible, I assumed everyone hated it but good for you if you can enjoy it.

Guys - we already have a discussion thread about Buffy-specific podcasts - Recommended Buffyverse Podcasts

Can we keep this thread to primarily non-Buffy podcasts and talk about Buffyverse stuff in the proper thread above?
