Favorite Shows That Didn't Make The Cut

My Own Worst Enemy (first aired in 2008, starring Christian Slater).

I think it was cancelled after about six episodes, and ended with a cliff-hanger and without resolution. I still get angry thinking about it.

6 episodes is hardly enough time for a series to get into gear and grab a fanbase. It seems ridiculous to me that they didn't even give the show more time or at least provide a conclusion, that must have been really frustrating.

Agreed completely! Plus, it wasn't in the best timeslot; I believe it had to compete with Monday night football (and its target audience was largely male), so that was another major issue.

The only show I can think of that only lasted one season that I loved when I was younger was Time Of Your Life, which was a spin-off of Party Of Five. 🙂

Is Firefly worth watching? I've never seen it.

Firefly, once I got around to watching it, reminded me very much of what Gene Roddenberry always said that he wanted "Star Trek" to have been, but the network never allowed. "Wagon Train To The Stars." His approach was that a new frontier, ANY new frontier, would require and attract the type of people who came to the New World on leaking sailboats or crossed the plains in ox drawn wagons.
"Firefly" and "Serenity" are nothing more than westerns in a somewhat different format.

But it's a GOOD western.

The supernatural series "Brimstone" was another little gem of a show that saw it's demise much, much too soon. Big surprise, as it was on the FOX network.....

Young Americans just watched those and I am shocked that it didn't make it but as I see more one season shows that are great and didn't make the cut I am not shocked, because there are so many of them.
Anyways this show is defiantly worth a watch the characters are very engaging and you can relate to them.

FIREFLY. FIREFLY. FIREFLY. It gets 3 slots in the "shows that were canceled too early" time slot.

As far as first season only stuff goes... absolutely The War at Home. It was a cute, funny, clever sitcom that was never given a real chance. They kept changing the nights around and aired the episodes out of order (hey, this is starting to sound familiar!). I would have loved to have seen more of it.

My Own Worst Enemy is another one. As has been said, it had about 6 episodes before it was canceled! And it's a shame because it was full of some beautiful people... Christian Slater, Saffron Burrows (who I happen to be in love with)... it had the potential to be a really good show! And not just because it was fun to look at! 😉

I think it is sadthat so many scripted shows get cancelled without a chance only to be replaced by reality tv. It makes me wonder if buffy or angel would have made it past one season in today's climate 🙁

aside from firefly, i can't think of too many shows cancelled after one season i think were great. but i definitely can think of some great shows cancelled before their time: arrested development and veronica mars spring to mind immediately, especially the former which never had a bad episode.

Even more potential shows each year shoot pilots that never even get shown. This article might be of interest to some of you.

[ame="http://askville.amazon.com/unaired-tv-show-pilots/AnswerViewer.do?requestId=301579"]What happens to unaired tv show pilots?[/ame]

Back in the 80's there were two summer replacement shows that actually aired those unsold pilots. One was strictly for comedies, and the other was strictly for action/adventure shows.

(For some reason, I can't copy the address of the article above and get it to forward. It's at "askville by Amazon" if anyone cares to look it up. Apparently, some unaired pilots are sold in sets from Amazon and others wind up on Ebay.

I was waiting to find your post.
  • Veronica Mars
  • Firefly
  • Moonlight
  • The Dresden Files
  • Miracles
  • Invasion
  • New Amsterdam
  • The Others
  • Drive

I was totally gutted when Veronica Mars ended, one of my all time favourite shows ever!

Makes me reluctant nowadays to start watching new shows for fear I will get into them, and then they will get axed.

One word: Moonlight.

God, I loved that show.
