Don't think it answers the question but the Bargaining two-parter was the one I looked forward to most. Back when you had to wait for the show to start back in a year. I mean, I kind of knew Buffy would be back, but how, the consequences and fall-out, the utter depression and everything else that happened. I think s6 might be my favourite season.

I liked the idea of her having to adjust having been pulled out of the land of the dead, its just the stuff with the biker gangs dragged and started getting really stupid. I just think it should have been a one part opener.

Very true. I think the first half of the 7th season lived up to it but then took a nose dive with the odd highlight in the second half. I actually think that 7 is better than 6 although that season has more stand out episodes. The first season is still my least favourite.
 
This is hard! I am actually trying to choose between S3 and S6, which is one of my favorite seasons and one of my least favorite seasons. I loved seeing Buffy outside of Sunnydale and on her own, and the fight scene in the demon dimension is one of my favorites in the series, not to mention it's where I feel she truly owned and accepted her Slayer-ness and all that comes with it. But "Bargaining" was a pretty epic two-part season opener, with all kinds of plot beginnings, moral questions, and character development. Hmmm...

Not only that but it was one of the rare, if only times, that you got to see Buffy fight sans help. She did it all, even the deductive reasoning! on her own. That was a rarity.

Well, I won't be getting much done at work today. I shall be pondering.
Update: I went with S3. I remember I had to miss that ep when it aired for some reason and I set our VCR (oh, yeah!) to record it. My brother was epically angry because I recorded over one of his Power Ranger episodes. Heehee. I was soooo excited to see the ep and I remember freaking out when Angel showed up in the dream sequence. Ah, memories...
 
For me it's got to be Anne. I love the whole storyline. I like how the characters emotional state is after the end of season 2 and for me it has one if the best fight scenes of the while show.
 
Who can forget the haunting view of the recently revived Buffy in Season 6 aimlessly wandering around and seeing the reaction as people realize that it's not the Buffybot. She is disoriented but she finds her way to the tower where she was last alive and has to be talked out of committing suicide. Much more dramatic than any of the other season openers.

Bargaining Pt 1 & 2 for me.

Buffy v Dracula is a close second, followed by Anne and When She Was Bad. I don't like the inclusion of Dracula in the Buffyverse at all, but ignoring his flaws it's still a decent episode.

The Freshman is probably my least favourite.
 
Not surprised to see that Buffy vs Dracula had no votes. Those pink leather trousers she wore alone are enough to send it to the bottom of the pile IMO.
