NOT just Buffy, but in fiction overall. Can be pairings you would have liked, or canon ones.

I'm going to say.

Favourite wholesome ships.

Sammy and Yaz from Camp Cretaceous: (NOTHING will ever top them in terms of adorableness. Sammy is just loveliness personified and her helping Yaz break out of her shell warmed my heart and made me cry.)

Fry and Leela. Whilst they definitely went back and forth a bit too much and The Late Philip J Fry completely ****ed up the relationship. Overall these two have an extremely touching love story and Fry's love for Leela is one of the most heart warming and genuine in any tv show. My favourite moments have to be My Three Suns when she bails him out again LOL, The Sting when he saves her from the hallucination, and finally when he accepts her when she becomes the Octopus lady. Fry is the best role model any young man can ever have in the Sting and Octopus episodes. It's no wonder he is one of the most popular leading characters. Seriously the likes of Homer Simpson, Peter Griffin, Rick Sanchez all have quite a large amount of haters, but not Fry.

Favourite dysfunctional ships:

Jerry and Beth from Rick and Morty: They are HORRIBLE together but that's what makes it so funny. My favourite episodes are when we see their images of each other and she views him as a pathetic, cowardly worm and when blim, blam a hideous evil baby killer gets fed up of their bitching and chews them out in the most epic way possible. I nearly died at that.

Al and Peggy Bundy: Second one for Katey Sagal. Nothing can top their insults.

Peggy/ Al you ruined my day.
Al/ Well Peg it's your own fault, stop asking me if you look old in the morning

Favourite unexpected ship

Butch and Tabetha from Gotham: Tabetha is seriously gorgeous and a total dominatrix. She and Butch get together after she basically tortures him LOL, but what I love even more about it is that after that it's an incredibly sweet pairing as well. Butch is such a laid back guy he doesn't mind she tortured him and gets over it pretty quickly. Afterwards Butch honestly reaches Fry levels of how much he genuinely likes her. I'm pissed at how it ended, even if that was an absolute peak moment for the best version of the Penguin there's ever been.

Favourite crossover ships

None of these happened but I'd like to see them happen.

Alti from Xena and the Master from Classic Who: I can't stress this enough CLASSIC WHO, not those cheap Joker/River Song knock offs from new who. The Master from this series and Alti are basically the same villain. Both outcasts from an organisation the hero worked for (Amazons/Time Lords.) Both manipulative, suave villains, both knew the hero before the series began and wanted the hero to help them, but grow to despise them. Both have crazy mental powers, both regularly die only to always come back, and in both cases the resurrection goes wrong and they both come back as living skeletons. Both are obsessed with power and seek to gain it by spreading chaos (as the Master can take over in the aftermath, whilst Alti gets stronger the more chaos there is.) Both are even introduced later than the other iconic villains, both travel in time etc.

Her actress Claire Stansfield and the last Classic Who Master, Eric Roberts even played lovers and had a love scene together too. For me the New Who Master is the lovechild of the Master and Alti, not the original.

Carnage and Callisto from Xena: Again not legit, but much like the Master and Alti these two are pretty much the same character. Both driven mad due to tragedies in their childhood, both are presented as wastes of a human life as we don't know if without that they could have been normal. Both cackling, child like psychopaths who were based on the Joker. Both promote a nihlistic ideology where nothing matters and claim to not care about life, yet both are miserable cowards when they face death. Both also got ensnared by a dark power that wanted to break its way into our reality and became its servant.

Honestly if either went on tinder then they'd be matched with each other.

Favourite weird ship.

Barry Allen and Kirsten Kramer from the Flash: Again this obviously isn't legit and I'm not saying I would have wanted it actually go that way, but I liked their chemistry, she became a really cool character in S8 and 9 and I quite like a guy in his 30s with a woman in her 50s. I think it's quite sweet. Always liked older women myself.

The episode that was just him and her in s8 was my favourite that year, though a big part of that was Goldface who was a ****ing hilarious bad guy. Even his name was brilliantly stupid.

Still what are your axes to grind?

Most of the time, I do not care that much one way or another. But I did manage to come up with two I like.

Waverly and Nicole from Wynona Earp. Because I just find them adorably cute.

Dr Dylan Reinhart and Andy from Instinct. I like how they are presented. There is a completely in character sarcastic comment from Dylan to Detective Lizzie Needham in the first episode about her not being able to detect he's gay, then after that they are just a normal couple. No "Look at how special they are!" which backfires a lot.

Interesting thread. For me, most of my favorite relationships AREN'T romantic in nature.

Castle: Rick Castle and Alexis Castle (Father and Daughter)
Babylon 5: Londo and G'Kar
Angel: Wesley and Gunn (before they ruined it)

and so forth.

I thought Londo and G'Kar was romantic! :) And yes, Castle has a great relationship with Alexis.
I love Burke/Cristina from Grey's Anatomy.

This is season 3 when Burke/Cristina proved that sometimes it can be kind to leave someone at the altar:

This is season 10 when they reunite after 7 years:

Izzie and Alex from Grey’s anatomy. I dislike how they end up together though.. makes zero sense after all the years. It was purely fan service I know it. But when they are together in the firsts seasons I love them.

Shipperism ruins franchises. Just let it play out.
True.

If they have to have relationships in a TV series, how about creating drama and conflict for a couple every 5 minutes, or a constant break up/get back together is just boring.
Buck the trend and let them have a solid long lasting relationship, with occasional bumps in the road.

It does, but only if you pander to them. I'm a guy fan btw LOL who has run afoul of lunatic shipper fans, like those who ship the Doctor and the Master, who banned me from forums, websites (for writing in the actual facts about their relationships, not even my opinion) and who did completely ruin those two characters.

However at the same time that doesn't mean it's a bad thing overall. Ultimately pander to any one side of the audience above all else and you will wreck your franchise. Sadly I think a lot of people pander to the shipper fans because they are often at least thought of as the female and LGBT side of fandom. Now don't get me wrong here I am NOT saying "women are never held accountable." I can't stand that myth that a lot of red pillers push. There are obviously many, many areas of society where women are subject to double standards. Off the top of my head look at my all time icon Amy Winehouse? She was bullied in brutal ways by the media for her rock and roll lifestyle, whilst a lot of guys who lived that same kind of life were praised as rebels, or at least never got the same treatment. Can you imagine someone calling Jim Morrison a crack jiggilo like she was called a crack whore for instance? Classic slut/stud double standard.

However that said when it comes to sci fi and fantasy fandoms I think a lot of producers/writers/actors will pander to what they perceive to be the female side of the fandom more than the male one, because ironically a lot of the writers are men, who want the chick vote as it were for the following reasons. 1/ Their own ego. Thanks to Joss Whedon, they all want to be seen as a progressive man who understands women more than other writers. More than any award all of these male sci fi writers want people to say "so and so writes great women" or for a female fan to tell them "You finally get what it's like from our side." 2/ They know that the writers room for a lot of these shows is often a cliquey little boys club made up of their mates (like Doctor Who), and they want to keep it that way, so they think by "chickifying" the show they can counteract that criticism. 3/ They are self loathing fanboys who are terrified of being seen as nerdy, uncool dorks who hate women because they can't get any like Warren Mears, so again they pander to the female side. 4/ They are upper middle class men, who live in a little bubble and have an extremely limited view of women and think women all just plan their weddings so this is the only way we can get a woman watching. 5/ They may have a history of being a dirty boy. I'm not saying a full on creeper, but yeah they might not have been the kindest to some of the women they've known and this is a good way of getting round that.

Still as long as we have proper sci fi writers who view women as people and not trophies or projections for their own insecurities LOL. Then shipping need not ruin franchises. Ultimately there is nothing wrong with letting some fans have their favourite couples, and indeed that's part of why I did this thread, because in the past I have maybe been a bit too hard on shipper fans in the past.

And a much healthier role model for people to follow in real life.

Elena and Damon

Like, yeah, Elena sucks and is extremely whiny, but she sucks a lot less when she is with Damon. Stephan is too boring and milquetoast for me, but Damon is a great and interesting person. Plus there’s that scene where Damon admitted he loved her and then made her forget so she could be happy with Stephan and the time. That was a beautiful scene.
