Fear of Scoxit?

Why is it shocking? The whole concept of a "United Kingdom" (and I stress the word concept) is that it's "subjects" are part of a whole; I see no reason why the Scottish MP's shouldn't vote on UK policies.

Those Scottish MP's vote on laws that don't affect them but affect the rest of the UK. The Scottish parliament can already vote on many issues for themselves but can also vote on things that will never affect them.

^ That's oversimplified but either way, this is always worded in a way that somehow vilifies Scotland. Ask any normal Scottish person on the street what he thinks about English issues that don't affect Scotland and he wouldn't give a crap, and wouldn't care less if the power to vote on such issues was removed.

The MP's are part of the United Kingdom. If they choose to vote on matters concerning the United Kingdom, of which they are a part, that is their right.

The EU is a sinking ship anyway. And should the impossible happen and Le Pen/Wilder win the elections, the EU will quickly go the way of the Titanic. But a new referendum probably won't happen until after all the elections this year.
Thankfully Geert Wilders didn't win. Honestly, he was so over-hyped by the foreign media here it was ridic.

I think that Scotland ought to pay for most of the ref. It's a tricky subject matter.

The MP's are part of the United Kingdom.

And yet again I say if Scotland wants the independence to vote on thier own laws that's fine (in principal) but they shouldn't get to have a say on laws that effect the rest of the UK but not them- because in those cases they're NOT part of the UK. That's what devolution means.

That's oversimplified

It really isn't. Scottsih MP's (not the people obviously) have been asked NOT TO vote on certain issues that do not effect Scotland but DO effct the rest of the UK and they've done it anyway.
If Westmister isn't allowed to vote on Scottish-only policies - and in many issues it can't- then the same goes for Scotland.

It's like one US state voting for laws in another state. They're not accountable to the voters.

I've already stated my views twice, and *I* see no need to repeat myself. Bored now.
Good article here for anyone interested in the mess that is our current system. @thetopher is spot on that it makes no sense to have a devolved Scottish parliament but not an English one. It should be either a single country with one UK parliament or a group on countries with their own parliaments and then an overall one that decides on joint interests. Half and half is clearly nonsense and is what comes about from making things up on the fly with no forethought.

The Tory plot to lock themselves into power forever

Do you think I'd have posted "That's oversimplified" unless I fully believed it and had reasons for saying so? You've basically just repeated the same post again. I stand by my opinion that it's oversimplified, and I could post a fairly complex, long post explaining why. But I just don't have the time or the inclination.

What I will say is that if English MPs are so keen to keep MSPs out of their business well... there's a very simple solution to that - I suggest they write to Theresa May and say they support Indyref2 ASAP.

Furthermore, I feel you have missed (or are deliberately not seeing) Anyanka Bunny Killer's point. As part of the United Kingdom, Scotland has the RIGHT to vote on ANY matters that affect ANY PART of the United Kingdom, whether they directly affect Scotland or not. As part of the UK as a whole, they have a vested interest in making sure that the whole of the UK is run a way that they believe is correct. That's the point in being part of the UK. Scotland has certain devolved powers which England can't vote on - that's not the same thing. However fair or unfair that may seem to you (and many others), unless England devolves itself too, then that's the way it is. It's not like MSPs are being spiteful and have nothing better to do with their time and rubbing their hands together saying "Ooooh, let's wind the English up today and go and vote on some English policies!" They are voting on things which they believe are right for the UK as a whole, whether they affect Scotland or not, and since they are PART of the UK, they have every right to do so.

Don't like it? Let us leave.

Actually I'm all for an English only parliament.
I have no feeling one way or another if Scotland leaves. I see the economics of it but can easily separate that from the ideology, just like Brexit.

The Prime Minister actually took time out from what you'd imagine is a busy schedule to troll the people of Scotland. Who knew that she had a sense of humour?
