First Time Buffy Viewer watching on youtube

Hey everybody! 🙂 *waves* I hope it's ok to post here and not seen as spamming (last thing I want to do is offend anyone!).

I have never seen Buffy before but I am setting up a reaction channel on YouTube where I will be reacting to various cult and retro shows and movies from the 80s and 90s that I have never seen before.

Buffy was the first on my list of shows that I wanted to watch as I have heard nothing but good things, especially with the 20th anniversary recently which really sparked my interest. I will be posting videos of my reactions as I watch each episode so if you would like to join me as a new viewer watching the stories unfold and reacting to all the twists and turns I would be delighted to have your support. I hope to get the first video up on Monday. I'll also be posting in the episode threads here on the forum with my thoughts and crazy theories!

I know it seems like I'm spamming but I'm not, I really want the support of this community to help me get up and running and I want to be part of your fandom. From what friends have told me I already know I'm going to love Buffy and be a big fan.

If you guys have any advice for me about how to best enjoy the show I would really welcome that although I am a major spoilerphobe so please don't spoil anything for me.

At the end of each reaction video, immediately after the episode has finished, I will be answering any questions people have submitted in advance about my thoughts on the episode and anything specific they have asked me about that happened in it. If you would like to submit any questions for me to answer about any episodes please email them to spoilers.cultretroreactions@gmail.com and please put the show, season and episode number in the subject so that I don't open any emails before seeing the episode in question. I would suggest posting them here but I just don't want to be spoiled so emails is safer.

Is this something anybody here would be interested in?
 
I have an advice... be patient. The first season looks very dated and is a bit corny, but thankfully it's only 12 episodes, also the last episode of S1 is great. However, S2 is where the show really finds its footing.

I can't wait to see your reaction episodes. When will you start?
 
My advice is to keep in mind when the show first aired because if you don't it may seem really strange 🙂

Thanks! My friend already told me season 1 isn't as good as the rest, now I have heard it here too, I definitely know there must be truth in it!

I am hoping to put my first vid up on Monday!

My only advice would be that obviously the forum will be rife with spoilers for you, so try your best to avoid new posts, and instead stick to the episode threads like you said. Here's the season one episode discussion forum (each season has its own sub-forum for episodes). Happy viewing!
 
That sounds great! I will definitely be watching! I'm always curious to see how people react to seeing episodes of Buffy for the first time! You will love it it's a great show with great characters and storylines. Like everyone has been saying the first season can take some adjusting to but it still has great stuff. The second season is where I fell in love with the show I was on the edge of my seat the whole time lol.

I hope you enjoy the show. Make sure to watch Angel too! Personally, I love season 1 of Buffy. It's campy, but in a fun way. The characters are so adorable and likable. I certainly prefer season 1 to seasons 4-7 but that is my unpopular opinion! Who knows, maybe you'll agree with me? But don't worry if you don't love Buffy right away. Give it until season 2. If you don't like Buffy by Surprise/Innocence (episodes 13 and 14 of season 2) then maybe the show isn't for you 🙂

This is pretty cool. I'll probably check it out. Hope you enjoy Buffy. While season 1 is a bit rough, it also has some really good character moments. I might even submit some questions.

As has already been said, this place will be rife with spoilers, but it's always nice to welcome new fans to the show! I'd tell you about our board podcast, but again it'll be full o'spoilers so I'd advise you not to listen (and I don't usually say that!) 😉

I always enjoy seeing people discover the show so I'll definitely watch your videos!

And I agree with @Carrie Hopewell about season 1 being fun. I think it's a great and fun introduction into the show. But I do think it's better on rewatch because it makes you appreciate the lightness and innocence of the characters a bit more in contrast to the other seasons.
 
Welcome to the boards! It is always interesting to see the reactions from someone who does not know how the story is going to unfold, so I (and a lot of us, it seems,) will be waiting to see your analysis.
 
Welcome to the boards. I like watching reaction videos to trailers and such. So I will definitely enjoy watching your reaction videos to Buffy. The first season is a fun and great way to introduce you to it.

The first episode on my dvd is "Welcome to the Hellmouth." Is there anything I should watch before that, like a pilot?

Welcome to the Hellmouth is the pilot. There's an unaired pilot that was never meant to serve as the does actual first episode. Don't watch that, until the end of season 1. And yea don't judge the rest of the show on season 1. I say wait until the end of season 2. Most people's favorite seasons are 3, 5 and 2.
 
Hi im Cordeliagirl and welcome to the board. I love buffy season 1, 2, 3 then 4, 5, 6, 7 and love Angel Season 1, 2, 3, 5 then 4. Watch all of them. My favorite character is Cordelia and my favorite Couple is Cordy/Xander (Cander!).

Just watch Buffy Season 1, 2, 3, and Angel Season 1, 2, 3, 5. There are best and better then Buffy season 4, 5, 6, 7 and Angel Season 4.
